JULY SELECTION: THE SHACK

These comments are aimed at beginning the discussion thread for July.

If you have a strong faith, reading The Shack will strengthen your resolve and encourage you. If you are a skeptic, you may come away with many questions, many answers, and possibly some reasons to believe. If you are a hard core cynic, you may not bother to read The Shack at all when you encounter the clear, unapologetically religious overtones.

It is a mystery. It is a love story. It is a story of intrigue, relationships, and faith. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I plan to read it again and again -- as well as purchasing several more copies to pass on to those I believe might appreciate and benefit from reading it.

Sounds good to me! I will try it. I'm reading Kite Runner right now, then I will read it.

I loved THE SHACK. And you can "shack" someone by going to the papa's love website and send a free copy as a surprise to someone you think might enjoy it. You can also donate toward this cause.
I loved THE KITE RUNNER too!

Haven't got to read "The Shack" yet. My library doesn't have and I am not within district of the good library so I can't check it out. I am looking forward to it though. "The Kite Runner" is amazing. It made me cry so have some tissue ready. I finished "Life of Pi" not too long ago. Another excellent book. Hopefully I will get to read "The Shack" soon.

Kathy,

I read The Kite Runner and The Life of Pi with my previous book club (when I lived in Michigan). I agree with you--- they're both
excellent.

When you finally get your hands on The Shack, make sure that tissue box is nearby.

I bought a copy of The Shack. I will try to get through it quickly before this thread gets too outdated.
I know that I am running behind.

I really liked The Shack! I don't normally read "Christian" books as they tend to be a bit preachy or fluffy, for lack of a better word. But The Shack reads much more like a novel with a mystery to it. The portrayal of God is amazing and really touched me. The conversation about responsibilities and expectations was eye-opening. Definitely has made me think of God in a somewhat different way.

I remember my mom telling me when I was little and asked her how I was supposed to pray to God that He was just a friend and that I should talk to Him like I would talk to a friend. I've always kept that image of Jesus, since He's the human "part" of God, but The Shack helped me see God not as some scary, vengeful overlord just waiting for you to put a toe out of line so He can strike you down. He's the source of the Love, He is Love, and we are special to Him. Amazing!

You can send copies to someone you think would be touched by the book from www.papaslove.org, which is a FREE ministry. If you want to contribute, you may do so at the same site.

I am going to borrow The Shack from a lady at church that said it was phenomenal. I can't wait to read it. I have heard so many great things about it.
