SPLOOFUS 2.0 AND 'RECENT' QUIZZES

This is not a complaint; just an observation.
I don't think my recent quizzes have really declined in quality.
But since 2.0 was introduced I know that the last quiz I wrote was the least taken and worst scoring of any I've ever written. I suspect that is because the new system (lead pages especially) makes recent quizzes vanish faster.
In turn that makes me less keen to write quizzes (obviously not everyone feels that way given the wait-list). Even though points are not that importsant in composing, if no one sees the quiz why write it?
Anybody else with similar experiences? Any suggestions as to whether - or how - new sploofus can keep quizzes around for longer?

Barry

Interestingly I would say that the quizzes I have written since the launch of version 2 have had a greater number of takers taking them.

I have found that since each Quiz Categoriy does not display the past 10 or 15 quizzes for all to see, the quiz taking seems to be aimed toward only the ones that are on display either by being the most recent 50 or most the popular of the past 30 days. Tournaments have helped by presenting an array of older quizzes to anyone involved in the tournament. The problem I'm most concerned about is that the older quizzes (over 30 days) and those not in the tourney schedule are virtually impossible to access. I have given up going back 5-10 pages of a prolific author's quizzes to locate quizzes I haven't taken. I'd like to see an option that allows us to hide the quizzes we have already taken instead of having them take up space page after page.

Barry, A question for you. If a player hasn't been active or outright quits Sploofus, should their quizzes be removed, I think so. I suggested taking a census of who wanted in or out, but I kinda' got the impression that the 43,000 member thing was more important. I actually had some innacurate TQOTD questions that support agreed with me and I got credit or a retake. I think they said they couldn't be removed. There should be a solution for writing a great quiz and see it fade into the sunset before it actually got hot.

What interests me more is, at the rate quizzes were being released since 2.0. How someone who has been a member less than a month and a half has published more than 45 quizzes, 20 Kerblunks and received more than 10 EAs.

I disagree about deleting quizzes of members who have left. This is really a trivia site, and people come here, theoretically, to take quizzes. It serves no purpose to delete live quizzes just because the author is not available.

My quizzes are not written with the idea that they will appeal to the majority of users on the site, and although I now have 121 published quizzes, I only have maybe 8 that have even attracted 100 takers. I cannot say that I have noticed less overall takers for my quizzes since the change to 2.0. It seems quite consistent. I acknowledge that I think the "Randomly Recent Editor Award Winners" section of the Home page has resulted in at least a few of my EA-winning quizzes being regularly taken after they leave the "Most Recent Quizzes" far more frequently than non EA-winners and, indeed, EA winners i have written that apparently have less popular appeal.

I don't really think the long queue is because appreciably more quizzes are being submitted. Instead, I think that overall, fewer quizzes go live every day than used to be the case.

When I first joined Sploofus, one of my first contacts was with "Geniuswaitress". Loved her quizzes and msg back and forth frequently. Her quizzes were always popular, and as of today, she sits on the leaderboard at #18 without any new quizzes since last year. I sent her a "friend request" with a note saying I missed her work. The note has been sitting since 2.0 went live. How about any others? Are your quizzes from last year being or even weeks ago being "unearthed" often enough to place you in the top 20 only eight hours into the new month? New quizzes, of course....but from last year - I doubt it!

Secondly, the positioning of a player with just 49 quizzes written....

Now, I admit I am not totally savvy as to all of the nuts and bolts of Sploofus, and at the risk of being labled a "pot stirrer", I dare say as a laywoman...me thinks something is rotten is Denmark, and I don't think it is the cheese!

Summertime: I'm not sure I'm correctly interpreting your post, but to me, it seems to express skepticism about the accuracy of the "Quiz Writers" Leaderboard. Geniuswaitress -- of whose quizzes I am also a fan -- has 398 live ones, so it does not particularly surprise me that she would be at #18, even with no new quizzes. It is possible that some player took several of her quizzes at one sitting (this has happened to me before where some player decides he/she likes the quiz style and will take enough quizzes to run up 5000 or 10,000 points). In any event, just given the total volume of quizzes, I am not particularly suspicious of the ranking even with no new quizzes.

If we are going by monthly quizzes I'm ranked at number 16 but in the all around scheme of things I'm sitting at number 326 out of 42,389...and I don't think anyone's quizzes should be deleted either if they leave the site...Like Maurlin said, this is a trivia site after all...

I did end my personal opinions on the points I wanted to make, with the fact I am not "savvy" to the nuts and bolts of Sploofus. However, during the time I have been with Sploofus, I have not heretofore, noticed the topics I addressed occurring simultaneously. I am now bowing out of the post, and getting back to my SOP with hopes that the issues, thoughts, and personal opinions that are circulating, albeit not posted on SD will be resolved. Summertime

I agree with Barry and some of the others. I think the quizzes don't show long enough. True, there are now more types to show, but if you click on quizzes, it would be nice it they come up like before we went to 2.0.

I just entered the Art Tournament and Geniuswaitress has a quiz in the same, which should end any mystery concerning her August point total as a quiz writer given her lack of recent quizzes.

I'm back in the thread! I hope you found it helpful to bring up the "Geniuswaitress" matter again TSK....I'm sure it cleared the issue up for the hundreds dying to know if the burning "mystery was solved". Frankly, I don't think anyone gave it a second thought other than you...but obviously you felt my personal opinion and observation was worth hanging on to, for whatever reason, and warranted adding an additional post. I don't think you were the only player to notice "Geniuswaitress" in the tournament...however, again, for whatever reason, you felt it deserved one more go-around...
