I have just finished three Trivia squares in a row with major misspellings in each. Occasionally I can get lucky and guess how the word was misspelled but I usually have to resort to the scrambled letters. For all you writers out there please check and double check your spelling. My mom was a second grade teacher and she will come over to your house and rap your knuckles if you don't!!!

That's a bummer. You don't have any other option than scrambled letters. I've resorted to Pm'ing the author when I've tried every letter combination know to man, and it still doesn't work. It's particularly frustrating when the misspelling is a city. You double check sources to make sure you haven't lost your marbles, and you know it's misspelled but you don't know the "correct" misspelling.

I had an unusual spelling on a square but someone let the cat out of the bag so to speak, on another thread.

I did one last night that had a spelling error in it. I PM'd the author about it, who was very nice and said s/he posted a warning in the clue regarding the misspelling. I haven't written a Trivia Square yet, but apparently the author can't get back in to correct the answers. I didn't see a bug report about that, so I put one in. Correcting a spelling error could conceivably mean a grid would need to be regenerated, which could cause problems, I suppose, but I do think it's important for authors to be able to correct errors.

I do agree with Gary, though, that authors (myself included, of course) need to be really careful with spelling to begin with, especially when it comes to proper names.

-- Gwry (not a misspelling, just the Welsh variant of my name. )

(sometimes that's not caused by the author)
