It was indeed a treat for me because I just went last spring. I should have done better but it was still fun and I enjoyed it immensely. Thanks for bringing back some nice memories.

Excellent puzzle and good clues thank you
If it weren`t for repeated spelling errors and
wrong guesses, and sheer ignorance
I would have been Number 1

Very well written. Some excellent facts and the clues were quite clever. As a Pennsylvania "Dutchman", it was a treat to play.

Barry: Depending on when you did it there might have
been a misspelling.

really? If you mean coffeshop vs coffee shop, it's used both ways for these particular establishments. Thanks everyone for the really nice comments. I just hope I have time to check out TG's puzzle before work.

I was just rereading posts and saw that spacecat asked for a complete list. I know--this is SO yesterday.

very cozy - holland is the most densely populated country in europe
after shanghai - rotterdam is the worlds second largest port
drawn by eight tiny herring? - santa claus arrives not by sleigh but by boat
a genuine imitation - delft blue ceramics were originally copied from chinese porcelain
one of the low countries - more than one quarter of holland lies below sea level
yes, even venice - amsterdam has more bridges than any other european city
all died penniless - famous dutch painters include van gogh rembrandt and vermeer
is it the cheese? - dutch people are currently the worlds tallest
it's not a caffeine buzz! - coffeeshops in holland dont sell much coffee
no place to park - holland has the highest density of bicycles in the world

Thanks for all the clues/phrases, Sandy! It's great to see what I missed. Truly a terrific WP! Your clues were very clever. For example, I loved these two:

drawn by eight tiny herring? - santa claus arrives not by sleigh but by boat
is it the cheese? - dutch people are currently the worlds tallest

That last clue just cracks me up every time.

thanks geri! my friend jeff who lives in amsterdam has two daughters, both 5'10" or so. he swears it's the cheese. thing is, they're about average height for their age there. I feel like a midget at 5'6" when I visit. Well, got to get over like a cat on a hot tin roof to check out your kerblunk. (what a sorry name-kerblunk i mean)

Thank you Sandy. I did not get the puzzle about Dutch people being the world's tallest. A WP with interesting information. Excellent.
