lots of fun. And one very interesting side note which made me consult the history books.
(Does anyone care about split infinitives any more, by the way?)

I thought this was an excellent concept for a WP highlighting wonderful, heart-warming moments that might be overlooked by the history books. I thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks!

Thanks for all the nice notes. Here are all the phrases. You can view most of these moments on youtube. Even Jesse Owens!

Cathy Freeman sparked Aboriginal pride when she won the gold on home turf. ("Sydney sensation 2000")
This Ethiopian set a marathon world record while running barefoot. ("Abebe Bikila 1960")
Nadia Gomaneci was the first gymnast to ever receive a perfect score. ("Perfection! 1976")
Mark Spitz holds the record for the most medals won at a single game. ("Swimming gold 1972")
She overcame polio and won three gold medals in track and field. ("Wilma Rudolph 1960")
When runner Derek Redmond tore a musclet his dad rushed over to help him. ("British dad award 1992")
Kerri Strug landed her vault jump with a sore ankle and won team gold. ("One foot victory 1996")
It was a secret that Muhammad Ali was chosen to light the Olympic torch. ("Atlanta surprise 1996")
Jesse Owens wowed the crowd after winning four gold medals in track. ("Hitler in the house 1936")
Olga Korbut introduced the backward somersault on the balance beam. ("Soviet sweetheart 1972")

That was the only bit I knew from History....
That Hitler was OUTRAGED that Jesse
Owens won and they made such a fuss of her....
after all Germans were the Master Race!!!!
