Ok. I know the difference between a quarterback and a kicker, but that's about as far as my football knowledge goes. I still did fairly well on this puzzle.

I actually scored better on this WP than I did for Welsh Castles. (Apologies to the Welsh Castle WP writer. I couldn't resist.)

Yes! I agree! I don't really know about football (nor do I really care. Wake me up for the Superbowl party!). But Mr. ALVANDY won a football illiterate over with this puzzle.

Bless you, Peppermint Patty Man!

I was so apprehensive about this one, but guess what? I did it, and I am happy.

Good, clean puzzle. Better yet, I had fun.

Great puzzle Al. I worked on this one while watching the Titans game, not that I'm crazy about football or anything . Also, thanks for the reminder about the service outage tonight.

Love football, loved this puzzle. It will be great to see Brett Favre in Gang Green this year, though I'm a lifelong Giants fan. I watch the Jets as well and cheer them on. Hope he does well. Fun puzzle, thanks!

Great puzzle - very fun.

Brett is in the wrong colour green this year - that's just not the right shade for him.

Al - I was cooking along so well on your WP - and I swear I had a 5 going (ok, fine, you caught me - it was more like a 500) and my computer hard-froze on the 5th. I asked for a reset so we'll see. But I was very much enjoying it - you done good!

Good puzzle Al, I knew a little about him from the news(ESPN) and asked my son a few questions.

Learned some very interesting tidbits that I can pull out during football season with which to amaze members of my family who firmly believe I know NOTHING about football. That should be fun!

Thanks to all who took the puzzle and special thanks for those who wrote some comments. It's great to see players say they enjoyed the challenge even if they were worried about being tackled.

I expected that my clues would be helpful, and anyone who did some pre- research/ googled, etc. would not be sacked behind the line of scrimmage by a blitz.

It appears the scores were pretty strong across the board. I wanted the puzzle to be "doable" even for those who weren't fans of football. Brett Favre has been all over the news lately, so I thought that his name and fame would generate interest.
It was right after his trade to the Jets that I decided to write it; wasn't planned until then. It seemed to be the right time for the puzzle, as a prelude into the new NFL season.

Are you ready for some football?

Since some players missed the puzzle, here are the ten clues/ phrases.

Alvandy Salutes Brett Favre

led southern mississippi to twenty nine wins during his four years ("Star QB in college")
the atlanta falcons made him the thirty third pick in the second round ("1991 pro draft")
in sixteen seasons he won three consecutive most valuable player awards ("Packers' star player")
his first completed pass as a packer was to himself versus tampa bay ("Favre to Favre?")
he has passed dan marino as leader in most every major passing category ("Record-holding NFL QB")
his streak as a starter continues at two hundred fifty three games ("Durable NFL quarterback")
started a day after fathers death and perhaps played best game ever ("Monday night 12-22-2003")
his career as a packer ended with trade to new york jets on august sixth ("Off to the Big Apple")
completed touchdown passes in a record eighteen consecutive playoff games ("Post-season excellence")
he played the boyfriend of cameron diaz in theres something about mary ("A movie star?")

Again , thanks to everyone who played
