It doesn't seem like it could be 31 years, Vickie, but it is!

In honor of Elvis:

This still gives me goose bumps after all of those years!

HUGE Elvis fan here.. I was 8 when he died.. and I cried then. Like some of you with JFK, I remember exactly what I was doing when I found out. Sad sad loss. I remember having a fantasy that he named his daughter after me.. until later when I found out she's 9 months older than me lol

I remember that moment in time when I was driving down the road and it came on the radio about Elvis.

I remember that day. It has been 31 years. Makes one feel old. A friend of mine in college was an amateur Elvis impersonator. Thanks for posting.

I remember I was in my living room playing with my oldest daughter who was eleven months old at the time when the network broke the news about Elvis. I was so shocked that I had to call every one that I knew including my husband at work to break the news. It was truly a sad day.

My brother's first baby died the same day, so I have two reasons to remember this date.

Vickie - I hadn't checked the SD until just a moment ago...thank you for remembering the special man Elvis was in life... and will continue to be in the hearts of all "true" Elvis fans. I hadn't mentioned this to you before, but on this day all Elvis fans hold him close in heart and mind, I'm going to post this. I have a small Elvis fan group on another web site where we can post "youtube" and Elvis videos from other sites, photos and share memories. The following is an announcement I posted last year when I first started the group and I have never changed it...no need to. Again, anything and everything about the man remains true. Again, the loss of a great talent...never to be duplicated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ELVIS - WE CAN'T STOP MISSING YOU! A group developed for individuals to pay tribute to the memory of Elvis Presley. Contribute your personal thoughts, experiences, favorite songs, videos, whatever salutes Elvis for the dynamic and unforgettable talent he continues to be.
Latest Group Announcement -
"Celebrate and Pay Tribute to Elvis Presley".
Elvis died August 16, 1977. This year marks the 30th anniversary of his premature passing at the age of 42, and in turn, the loss of a great talent...never to be duplicated.
I invite you to witness the talents of Elvis' with the help of the three videos I've selected. Each video celebrates Elvis at very different times in his life and have titled each as such. "The Beginning", "The Comeback", "The End"
For "The Beginning", I've selected Elvis not only singing "Jailhouse Rock", but the dancing scene from Elvis' film of the same title.
For "The Comeback", the 2004 remake from Elvis' 1968 Comeback Tour, "If I Can Dream".
For "The End", Elvis' last performance in July, 1977, six weeks before his death. Elvis is playing the piano and singing accapela, "Unchained Melody".
Any interested Sploofusers - If you haven't watched this final video on "youtube" as yet, and decide to do so...and if you cared about Elvis at all, at any time in your life, please be prepared. IT IS MOST DIFFICULT TO WATCH.......
Charlie Hodge is at Elvis' left at the piano and the only person with him...how ironic is that? Charlie Hodge, who knew the brightest and darkest side of Elvis...alone at his side...is one of the very few who has kept Elvis' life personal trial and tribulations private. In the video Elvis is heavy and perspiring profusely...oh, but that smile that he let's go with a time or two in Charlie's direction....touching and priceless. As many of my fellow Elvis fans feel, to this very day, I cannot watch Elvis' performances without a sense of sadness and loss for what was...and what might have been.
The "physician" who wrote the unbelievable amount of over 38 scripts for Elvis, which contributed heavily to his death finally lost his medical license in 1996 for inappropriate and indiscriminant writing of prescription drugs..
Again Vickie...thank you for recognizing Elvis today for those of us in the Sploofus organization that care.
Donden, what a di**! I normally try not to care what anyone says on here, but when Vicki (who is loved by all here on the island) is paying tribute, try not to be such a wienie.
That was crude, inappropriate and disrespectful and not in any way, the appropriate thing to say about anyone who has passed away!
I can still see that footage of Elvis on a small circular stage, surrounded by the crowd, when he is wearing the black leather shirt and pants, and feel myself getting all weak in the knees and kinda swoony.
Summertime:
I found the group you are talking about at:
http://www.eons.com/groups/group/we-cant-stop-loving-you
But, unfortunately, clicking on the three videos that you talked about
results in the message on each one "this video is no longer available"
Thanks Leah and Marilyn...it was very disrespectful thing to say...even if you didn't like Elvis which Don apparently doesn't, have some respect for the man...and for his fans...
To anybody interested:
Found the video link to Elvis singing "Unchained Melody" in July 1977 which Summertime called "The End" performance.
Hmmm...thanks for the update on the video situation...I am happy to know of this. As your message indicates, it was after you selected the video that the "no longer available" popped. The site has recently gone Beta....maybe a connection? As a fellow Elvis fan Larry, I trust you tried to view some of the other video's posted over the months. Did you have the same result or were you just interested in verifying the three I mentioned? I will certainly check out the situation.
I'm not sure if there are Sploofus restrictions stating one may or may not use "links" to advertise for other sites as you did. I chose not to risk doing so, but hey, thanks for taking the time to do the follow-up research on my message and post the resulting advertisement!! I'm sure Jeff Taylor, Founder and CEO of the site where the group I mentioned is based, is grateful for the free advertising...he's the guy who sold the career opportunity site (ssshhhh) he founded for a gazillion dollars.
I just did a quick check to make sure this message would post okay and noticed your additional comment! The Beginning, The Comeback, and The End are not the titles of the video's Larry....no wonder you couldn't find them...LOL! The details and names of the actual videos are clearly stated in my original post...the names you were trying to find are what I called the time frames of this most incredible man's career. Deedee
Vickie...It takes all kinds for sure, but insensitivity towards the feelings of others is just inexcusable. You have been shown so much love today by those that care about you and your feelings for Elvis, please don't let the crudeness of one take away one iota of that....
