KAELIN ANGER MANAGEMENT WP

This was a fun puzzle and some new knowledge acquired.
Warning: watch out for tenses and what I think is a truncated (and possibly ungrammatical) quote. I've logged a help-note.

When I was in the Navy, anger management was easy "Don't be pissed, Re-enlist". But as I got older, a wise old man from Italy told me, "Billy, don't get mad, get even ". Words to live by from an old man named Silvano.

cute puzzle. Just amazes me the ideas people come up with for puzzle topics, although it shouldn't. We're a very clever bunch around here.

No tense problem that I could see. Maybe just intense phrases (har har har).

Enjoyed the anger management WP. I think I'll have observe a few moments of silence now.

I had a lot of fun with this WP, Lorri (Kaelin), thanks! I thought the clues were great, and I enjoyed the wise and sometimes amusing tips on anger management.

I'm angry that in my first puzzle I ran into another unfathomable middle initial. Actually, I've probably moved on into depression.

I have to say that I think switching tenses from puzzle to puzzle for no reason stinks. And is either bad or mean-spirited puzzle writing as well.

no worries I'm done with WP's anyway - that was my last one - I'm happy with the puzzle - and if you aren't you won't have to worry about taking another one -

and for the record - and to "highlight" the point of the puzzle - that is not a statement of anger - I made that decision when I submitted it - so what was said in no way influenced the previous post - I'm way to busy to waste my time on the perfection expected from WP writers and my sympathies again lie with the editors who work so hard with the plat's who make the efforts - and all the puzzles the produced prior...with no compensation - kudo's to all.

Fun puzzle, Kaelin! I enjoyed it very much. Hope it's not really your swan song, but rather your last one until you have time to write another. Good job!

It is for now - School starts Monday and it's my daughter's senior year - her marching band is going to try for a 4th state win - when they did it 3 in 2006 - it had never been done by any school in Texas - state championships are every other year - and they want this BAD! But the other schools do too of course - it'll be a busy fall - and until after November 4th (State championships in San Antonio) - it'll be doing wp's and QOTD's - & popping in to see what's up in the Salty Dog...

I'm sure Kaelin did not switch tenses deliberately the issue of what tense (past or present) to use is a non-issue if the verb takes an -ed (remarked/remarks are different numbers of letters) but what seems to have happened here through sheer bad luck is that an 'observes' instead of 'observed' and a has/had caused problems.
Its tough to ask editors to watch out for this... but I'm going to anyway!

Blah Blah Blah. Kaelin: this was a fabulous puzzle and anyone who thinks you should be able to get one in five wants stupid stuff.
Excellent stuff; reallly liked it and really glad you mixed up the quotes a bit.

Don't let the detractors get you TENSE!

See you in the summer. Good luck to your kid

I don't know what did or did not cause "tense" problems for some - I assumed it was Confucious - but appears that's not the gripe - but for the benefit of those who asked me - here is the puzzle - along with the original quotes that I paraphrased - and in addition the "Confucious explanation" I had written this morning when Barry first posted in case some took issue - I stand by the puzzle, enjoyed writing the puzzle, thank my editor for the great input & I hope everyone enjoys the break from mine - because afer Marching Season - I'm sure I'll come up with some great new ideas for all to love & hate

cheers !

ambrose bierce warned the best speech you will ever regret is made in anger
("think before you speak")
Original quote:
Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret.

when angry mark twain said you should count but when very angry to swear
("1, 2, 3, 4..%&*(#%&")
Original quote:
When angry, count to four; when very angry, swear.

willard gaylin stated that expressing anger is a form of public littering
("use the trash can")
Original quote:
Expressing anger is a form of public littering.

alfred montapert observed when you get angry you poison your own system
("911 - Overdose!")
Original quote:
Every time you get angry, you poison your own system.

benjamin franklin believed anger always had a reason but seldom a good one
("is it worth it?")
Original quote:
Anger is never without a reason, but seldom with a good one.

tolkien advised not to meddle with wizards because they are quick to anger
("Gamgee about Gandalf")
Original quote:
Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger.

robert g ingersoll observed that anger blows out the lamp of the mind
("let your light shine")
Original quote:
Anger is a wind which blows out the lamp of the mind.

albert einstein surmised that anger dwelled only in the bosom of fools
("e = mc2")
Original quote:
Anger dwells only in the bosom of fools.

pythagoras believed that anger begins with folly and ends with repentance
("not about the numbers")
Original quote:
Anger begins with folly, and ends with repentance. (also attributed to Beverly Sills)

And in case someone was unhappy with tense on this one:
confucius advises to think of the consequences when anger rises
("the end result")
Original quote:
When anger rises, think of the consequences.

Since Confucious is typically repeated as
Confucious say (present - not past tense) and in my desire to invoke a little more of a thought
process "instead" of Confucious say - I began with
Confucious advise - the pain of that to my ear in speaking it outloud influenced my decision to say advises

Lorri,
I hope when your life is less busy that you're able to rejoin the team of Platinum WP authors. Not only has it been a pleasure for me to take your WPs, but I've also learned something valuable from each one.

Here's a tribute to you -- one favorite phrase from each of your past WPs:

1. james cagney sang and danced his way through yankee doodle dandy (from Kaelin's Magical Musical Tour)
2. its not nice to fool mother nature (from Kaelin's Ad Slogans + Jingles)
3. it is not length of life but depth of life (Emerson) (from Kaelin's Life Quotes)
4. el paso is closer to needles california than it is to dallas (from Kaelin's Texas, My Texas)
5. never odd or even (zero) (from Kaelin's Palindromes)
6. reason has always existed but not always in a reasonable form (Karl Marx) (from Kaelin's "Marx" My Words)
7. dont go through life grow through life (Eric Butterworth) (from Kaelin's Life Quotes 2)
8. debuted everything with a music video on myspace (That was news to me!) (from Kaelin's "Everything" WP)
9. the eyes of texas has the same tune as ive been working on the railroad (from Kaelin's Sing-A-Long Trivia)
10. david bowie produced iggy pops nineteen eighty six blah blah blah album (from Kaelin's Blahs)
11. pythagoras believed that anger begins with folly and ends with repentance (from Kaelin's Anger Management)

And my favorite clue: 1, 2, 3, 4..%&*(#%&

Thank you for all the time and effort you put into research and writing, and for giving us such a great variety of puzzles!
-- Geri
