There is a problem with the WordRound timing algorithm again since this last weekend (Feb 3-4). The top ten fastest scores include 6 15 second times, 2 14s, an 11 and a 7! It appears to me that download times are not being correctly compensated for, as they were for approximately the last month. I've noticed that when I get a fast download time, say 3-4 seconds, it's easy to get a WR time in the mid- to high teens. When the download time gets to about 10 sec, it's difficult to get into the low 20s. When download times are very long, say 20-60 secs, it's difficult to get into the 20s. I'm posting this instead of opening a problem because there's apparently a long problem backlog and I think it needs a fast fix. I also think that it's important to let everyone know the nature of the problem. I'm also getting increasingly frustrated by WR times unrelated to skill.

Bingo ..I've been saying this for days but to no avail.

As a rule , the shorter the load time, the easier the WR I find.

Sometimes when Sploofus is really balky there are some really fast times unrelated to skill.

Did someone change something since I posted the first message? Since sometime in WR 9565 my download times have varied wildly from 3 to 25+ seconds, but my WR times are just about where expect them - high teens, low 20 seconds if I'm doing well, high 20s if I'm not. I also notice that Kimmie's best time dropped from a 15 in WR 9565 to a more realistic 19 in WR 9566. If someone fixed the problem, thank you very much!

Sour grapes.

Seriously, though, I had the 7 second time. It was clearly a glitch, since I actually had to pause mid-round and cough (battling a cold the past few days). The actual round should have been about 35 secs... which made me laugh when I saw the 7 second time. Of course, the usual suspects had a field day with me on the Shout... I am now known as Violentblue, the cheater.

That type of glitch seemed similar to the times when I get a page with no defintions nor answers at all, just a "Submit answers" button.

15 second times are very possible, though. I have gotten them a few times.

I'd vote that my 11-second round was a glitch, too.

Now, my fifteen's.....

I'm wondering why the Google Ads box and 'Now Playing' list are appearing on the Word Round puzzle page. Have they always been there?

Mightn't this be slowing things down since that info changes so often? And who's going to click on it when they are trying to finish quickly???

I only called you a cheater, violent, because of peer pressure. The late night WR crowd can be very intimidating to us more sensitive types. I am in no way jealous that you were chosen as the recipient of a WR time glitch while I was not.

Excuse me. I need a moment to myself.

Who you callin a peer? You put the "N" in violet...our sweet little...Violet...

She is always meek and mild mannered....shame on you Lodi....

For the record...Violent did immediately state that it was a glitch...HOWEVER...some of us believe that she had Oogie's time machine and used it for personal gain.

We have no actual evidence to support that claim so ...take it for what it's worth.

Well, if you guys are peers, I won't be inviting you to tea at my house any time soon. And I certainly won't be inviting you to sit on the furniture. Don't they have medidcations for that? Or is it just age related?

Lodi, don't succumb to PP.

Chick, thanks for sticking up for me. Uh, I think.

Diane, am I invited for tea? I promise not to spill it.
