QUESTION RE: MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS

Does anyone know what the real differences are between platinum and gold memberships on sploofus 2.0? The upgrade option lists them below but I don't believe they are all correct.

1)
Upgrade to SPLOOFUS GOLD, Only $14.95 for 6 months!

* No Banner Ads! - NOT TRUE
* Author unlimited trivia quizzes! - TRUE
* Access the Wager Token System! - TRUE
* Larger Leaderboards! - TRUE, I GUESS
* Space for up to 30 friends! - TRUE
* Full chat and message board access! - TRUE BUT IS THIS ALSO TRUE FOR NON PAYING MEMBERS?
* Unlimited WordPuzzles! - TRUE
* 10 WordRounds per hour! - TRUE
* Enhanced user profile system! - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? IF ITS AVATAR, I SEE NON-PAYING MEMBERS HAVE AVATARS AS WELL.
* Enhanced Trivia Quiz tools and stats! - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
* Enhanced player support! - UM.......

(OPTION 2)
Upgrade to SPLOOFUS PLATINUM, Only $49.95 for 6 months!

* Platinum membership card - ANYBODY ELSE GET ONE?
* Personalized favorites page - HUH?
* No Banner Ads! - EXCEPT FOR THOSE ONES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGES?
* Author unlimited trivia quizzes! - TRUE
* Access the Wager Token System! - TRUE
* Larger Leaderboards! - ANYBODY KNOW ABOUT THIS VS GOLD?
* Space for up to 100 friends! - TRUE. WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR 100 FRIENDS IF YOU DOWNGRADE TO GOLD?
* Sploofus player-to-player messaging! - UM, DOESN'T EVERYONE HAVE THIS?
* Customizable icon - DOES THIS MEAN YOU CAN UPLOAD YOUR OWN BUT GOLD CAN'T?
* Platinum "Now Playing" name highlight - TRUE
* Unlimited WordRounds per hour! - TRUE
* Unlimited WordPuzzles! - TRUE
* Enhanced user profile system! - WHAT IS THE DIFF BETWEEN THE OTHER LEVELS OF MEMBERSHIPS?
* Enhanced Trivia Quiz tools and stats! - REALLY? LIKE WHAT?
* Priority support! - NO COMMENT

So if someone, perhaps an editor, can tell me what the REAL differences are, I would appreciate it. Mine renewal comes up in October and I'm trying to figure out what level to choose. Thanks for your help.

Lodi: one relatively new "perk" for platinum members is the allowance to write "word puzzles"

That is a big plus- especially for those really into the Sploofus mystique.

I've had excellent customer support when I have requested help / support tickets. I'm sure the "plats" support tickets are reviewed more expeditiously; at least in my experience.

For those who are currently "basic" members- consider upgrading to GOLD, at least. you can try it for three months @ only $9.95 by the way.

I guess I'm specifically trying to figure out what I'm going to actually lose if I drop down to gold.

And I'm not so sure about the platinum edge on support. Before the float, I put in for a group, and it was ignored. When I mentioned it in the threads, an editor asked me to put in a support ticket, which I did. When I never heard back, I put in a follow up. I've never heard from either one, nor ever received a response back on my group. I have had other responses to other support tickets, but I have no experience in saying that the responses were responded to more quickly because I was platinum than if I were gold.

I can tell you that you won't be able to customize your avatar and that would be a crying shame for all of us who can't wait to see what you'll come up with next - love this one, btw!

Thanks Karen & Al. That's the kind of feedback for which I'm looking.

So far, no authoring WP's and no customized avatar. What else?

Not a perk for plats, but freebies can't start new threads and can't chat in Shout.

My membership lapsed for a couple of days this week before I renewed as Gold. Was Plat before. While I was lapsed I found the only thing I did not have access to was the Word Puzzles because I had already done one the day before ( 1 per week for non-paying members).

There was a small banner ad over one the right hand side of the page, the same one you see before you sign in. Not a huge annoyance but somewhat distracting. Those ads are always at the bottom of the screen no matter what.

As Gold, the banner ad is gone. The personalized icon I had uploaded as a Plat remained on my Gold membership, but once I changed it, it had to be from the Sploofus library, so if you have an avatar and you don't change it, it looks like it won't go anywhere.

I was kind of surprised at how much I could do as a non-paying member- it's been a couple of years so I'd forgotten. A couple of WR/WMs per hour, 5 Who/What guesses, chat and quizzes. I didn't try to write any games so I don't know what the limits for non-paying members are.

I think I was limited to 30 friends and 5 groups as Plat and it hasn't changed as Gold. If it did increase at some point I didn't catch it. I consider you all friends anyhow! I've suggested a few groups, a couple were taken and I never heard back about the others- don't know if the many requests ever got though?

I missed doing the Word Puzzles and I want to support Sploofus so I went Gold. The main differences I see between the Plat and Gold memberships is writing WPs and unlimited WR/WM tries.

The kick in the pants in writing award winning puzzles is that you don't earn a point. The Platinums all put a good effort with their puzzles. I know that I don't try to get tricky (Only once Barry) but I don't want my stuff to be a cake-walk. Between my wife and I, I plunked down $160.00 since May and no membership cards, none from previous year, either. Maybe Mr. Justin should have a special section where questions and complaints can be handled quicker. Reading that established players are considering or have downgraded would get my attention if I ran this thing.

I hardly ever play WR/WM so that doesn't matter much to me, and I don't think I have more than 30 friends here, so that's no biggie. I do like the opportunity to write WPs though.

But the real difference for me is stronger support of the site. I feel like my being platinum helps keep the site alive.

I do think it would be better if those details you quoted could more accurately reflect the actual perks of the site - but I wouldn't put that at the top of the priority list if I were Justin's advisor.

How many guesses at the WTHAI do gold members get? Plats get 25.

I was all about the platinum keeping the site alive, a long time ago when Justin was part of the site and needed our help. I was, I believe, the 2nd person to actually go platinum. I haven't felt Justin here in a long time and so that feeling isn't quite as acute for me as it used to be. Now I'm just trying to find if there's anything I'll miss out on, that I can't actually do without, by dropping down to gold, or a non-paying member. I do have the bigger friends list, but I really don't use it for much. The groups thing is entirely out of whack so I could care less about those.

"How many guesses at the WTHAI do gold members get? "

Marilyn is right, we "goldies" get 15 guesses per picture.

i don't see any of those annoying flashing ads on the pages like i did as a non-paying member but there is a "Ads by Google" banner at the bottom of every screen.

We get two Word Puzzles per day -- obviously more than free members -- but I wouldn't call that unlimited WP. I thought with platinum we were going to have access to the WP from the past years so we could solve them; don't recall there was any talk about scoring with it.

At one point I considered upgrading from Gold to Platinum but my gold membership was still current. I couldn't see that there was any discount for the 6 months that my gold membership still had to run so I chose not to upgrade. So if you choose gold, then decide you would rather have platinum you have to wait till your membership comes up again or lose what you paid for your gold if you upgrade right away.
I may be wrong - so If anyone knows differently, please let me know.

It doesn't work that way Jo, or it certainly didn't in 1.0. If you upgrade to platinum from gold part way through your membership, then the pro rata balance remaining on your gold membership is applied to the platinum membership which extends your time over the 6 or 12 months. Make a note of the date your membership expires and do a rough calculation - if by any chance this doesn't occur, send in a support ticket with the details and the date can be amended.

I'm not so sure about Gold pro rata credit if you upgrade to Platinum during your Gold term. The small print under the Platimun info reads "* Note: An existing Gold Membership will not affect your Platinum upgrade." I take that to mean that you'll not get credit for it.

When I upgraded I got credit for my existing gold membership. Was still 1.0 then.

I went directly from unpaid to platinum, so I can't give any comparisons. But I feel good supporting the island. It wasn't that much money and I signed up for two years as a BD present for myself! But it's true, I don't see a lot of difference between gold and platinum, except for the slight feeling of superiority that I'm in the highest category possible.

I had to drop to free membership for a bit, I realize I can do most of the things I did in gold, but I liked being gold much better -- I also felt at least I was supporting the site in a small way.
