Excellent Puzzle Al and a timely reminder of the need
for protection of Workers Rights, Safety and Benefits.
These protections have been greatly eroded since the
1970's. (And the fall of Communism)

And strangely - amid all this talk of how much these
protections are costing Companies and Shareholders....
Workers wages have stayed relatively the same or even
eroded. MANAGEMENT SALARIES have grown to as
much as 3000 times the wage of the average Worker....
And even the much quoted Common Shareholders are
complaining about the erosion of Dividends received....
Not to mention the Companies that have drained all the
assets and then gone under - making Stocks and Shares
worthless and a major gamble.

Thank you for taking the puzzle- it's timely and this was one I enjoyed authoring. It's been a pretty eventful day. I was invited to give a presentation at a local church about Labor Day history and as a celbration of the national holiday. Tomorrow[September 1] , our Labor Council will conduct the 19th annual Labor Day Parade and fishing derby as part of an all-day festival at a local park, in cooperation with the City of York.

I tried to cover the bases in writing the 10 clues/phrases, and wanted to acknowledge the achievements of workers all over the world.
It appears the scores were successful for most players. I hoped you learned some interesting information.

Here are the 10 puzzles:

the first monday in september is a federal and state holiday in the nation ("Celebrated in the USA")
in many countries may day is celebrated as an international workers day ("Celebrated in the World")
australias public holiday is fixed by state and territory governments ("Labour Day Down Under")
jerry lewis hosts annual telethons to benefit muscular dystrophy research ("Jerry's Kids")
popular etiquette dictates that white should not be worn after labor day ("A fashion don't?")
national holiday celebrates economic and social achievements of workers ("Labour Day-Canada et al.")
founded the american federation of labor in eighteen eighty six ("Samuel Gompers")
established in nineteen thirteen it protects the rights of all wage earners ("U.S. Department of Labor")
american federation of labor congress of industrial organizations ("AFL-CIO")
british labour unions were guaranteed legal recognition after its passage ("Trade Union Act - 1871")
