The Party Unity My Ass un-Party (PUMA) was born yesterday, protesting the Democratic Party leadership and the nomination of Sen. Barack Obama as the Democratic candidate for President. PUMA began as an effort of supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton who believe that Clinton should be the Democratic nominee. According to PUMA, "We are protesting the 2008 Presidential election because we refuse to support a nominee who was selected by the leadership rather than elected by the voters."

Never heard of it. This really is going to be a mess, isn't it?

A giant mess and I find it somewhat disconcerting.

Just a thought ... Your second post was dated June 2, 2008.

Yes, I've heard of it, perhaps because I live in central NJ, and I believe the term was actually coined in early June by a woman from NJ. So, anyway, it's been in the news around here. Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell even started an alternative group called HOUND (Hillary-Obama-United-Not-Divided) in response to PUMA.

On a personal note, I wish we didn't have political parties and everyone ran on their own merits.

Selected by the leaders and not the voters? Ahem, it was the voters of Iowa and of the February primaries who put Obama on the map. Up until then, Clinton was the clear favorite of the party hierarchy.

Go ahead and boycott, but realize that doing so is a vote for four more years. The issue isn't party unity or lack thereof, it's our future.

Ken, isn`t Lodi talking about something like
the Parliamentary system in England....
where you vote for the politician whose policies
you like the best....regardless of Party.
Then the elected members vote for the
Leader for each Party.
That Leader becomes Prime Minister, if their
party has the most elected members
in the House.(And if the Queen approves)

No Hoopla, No billions spent to be the Leader,
and no place for excessive Lobbying and
promises made in return for Campaign
Kind of like Mr.Obama`s campaign, I guess
