SAFE IN B'HAM

We made it in around 1 am. I sat and wrote a huge note for you and then it didn't show up when I pressed post. Oh well, lost in cyberspace. So far everything looks good. My family is safe. I don't care about property. I still have my mind, haven't lost it, yet. If we can get back by 48 hrs as the mayor says, great. If not, we wait again. Thanks to all for your prayers and support. Will let you know, as I do, if any probs back home. Thanks. Claudette

I apologize to Acofish. I was tired, hungry, and had to listen to a cat "meow" for 13 hrs. You are entitled to your opinion.

Claudette, so glad you're safe! There will be a huge traffic jam going back your way once the all clear is given to return. Call the Alabama Highway Patrol (334-687-2054) before you leave to see if it might warrant waiting a little bit. Evacuations just wear you out! The return doesn't have to be as nervewracking as the departure. Fingers crossed that it's all smooth sailing for you from here on out, and that your home is safe and secure.

Ah yes ... if you type a LONG post, Sploofus will time out before you hit the "submit" button. I always copy my longer posts before I hit "Submit" just in case.

Hang in there. At least Gustav has been downgraded to a Category 2 hurricane (wind speeds of only 110 mph! WhooHooo!)

When needed ...

To avoid the time out, open a second window or tab and leave it on the Word Round page. The constant refreshing of the Shout will be read as new activity for your session, and you won't be logged out.

You've been brave. Keep it up! We're pulling for everyone in that hectic situation. Life is short and so precious.

Where the levee broke is pretty unpopulated; a lot of farmland and where much of our citrus is grown. Hopeflly everyone got out.

I wish people would put in charge of naming Hurricanes. It wouldn't make the hurricane any less horrific, but wouldn't you grin a little bit every time you said "Hurricane Tiny Tim?" Or how about "Hurricane Shazam?" "Hurricane Rosannarosannadanna?"

Just a thought.

Bbear, the "news" people tell you these things--unpopulated, etc.,--but when the cousins who are here in B'ham with you have parents who live there and my nephew lives less than 2 miles from there, it is important to some, not to others.

I am so tired. I did get some sleep but I have been up about an hour. I really hope we don't have trouble driving back. We plan on staying for a few days. Thank God for our cousins, who don't mind our visits. Thank you for all your prayers. Claudette

After Katrina, I heard "they" were going to Holland
to study how the Levees could be improved....
Of course, Holland doesn't have Hurricanes etc.
Hope your family is all safe Claudette....
