Just a chuckle here, but which is correct? I've had it both ways in my 'pending' quiz. Both ways are wrong according to the authors. Please, help me.

Actually, '' shows 'marshmallow.'

I just thought it was funny that I had one way and one editor said, nope. So, I changed to the dictionary way and another editor said, nope.

By the way, not mentioning who, just thought it was comical!

I'm curious how you had two different editors on the same quiz? In theory, that's not supposed to happen, largely to keep consistency on matters just like that.

But the version is correct - Marshmallow, from the root of the marshmallow plant which formerly sweetened the confection.

I've heard it pronounced marshmellow but never spelled that way. I rememeber my first botanizing outing trekking across wet and tricky underfooting to see the native Marsh mallow and half expecting to see a shrub with a bunch of fluffy white blossoms. It's a relative of the hibiscus and cotton plants as well as the 'Rose of Sharon' and hollyhocks which many of us have in our basic landscaping. The original marsh mallow root was used medicinally for cough relief and urinary tract infections.

Marshmallow is from the Marsh Mallow. The mallows are a family of plants. The one in question is the "marsh" variety of the group; just like a "Sugar" Maple or "White" Pine. It grows in salt marshes and other damp lands. If you taste the bark of the dried root, you have no doubt what it is. I remember being amazed, having thought marshmallow flavor was a concoction of flavors, not a single one.

Isn't that sorta like asking what's the difference between receive and recieve? Isn't one wrong and the other write?

"Write"? LOL, Jed...

Yep, it's definitely "marshmallow"... I've never seen it spelled with an 'e'...What's interesting, though, as mentioned above, is how you managed to get two editors to disagree on it!

If you had two different editors, maybe you changed the title half-way through? It would thus have come up as a 'different' quiz and reassigned randomly.

Mr. Sta-Puft said:

Marshmallow is would I am made from.

Marshmellow is how I feel after a hard day when I am kickin' back in the lazy boy with a couple of brewskis and a game on the tube.

Marshmeller is my cousin who lives on martha's Vineyard near the kennedy compound.

Thanks for the help. It was the same editor, come to find out. I thought there were only two marshmallows, but there were three. I didn't fix the third marshmallow, so I thought that the editor was telling me to spell it 'marshmellow'. Ah... my lightbulb went on finally when I found the third marshmallow. What a fluffy mess!
