Pink Floyd keyboard player and founding member Richard Wright has died at the age of 65 after a short cancer illness, his spokesman said.

Wright died at his home in England on Monday (local time).

Wright, guitarist Roger Waters and drummer Nick Mason founded the band that became Pink Floyd in the 1960s when they were students.

Sad news indeed.
Just wish Roger Waters would get off his high horse and get back together with Mason and Gilmour.

I'm listening to Wish You Were Here currently. Some of my favorite Richard Wright moments come in the latter parts of Shine on You Crazy Diamond. I don't think I have Paint Box on cd. He was trying a bit too hard to be Syd in that song, but I always liked it anyway. Suppose Great Gig in the Sky would probably be the most appropriate of his co-written compositions, but I don't find it as moving as the end of Wish You Were Here.

I currently have 'Us and Them' on my internal jukebox. Always loved that piece.

For what it's worth Slicko, I believe Dave Gilmour would rather cut off his hands than appear on a stage with 'Heavy' Waters again. Much as I hate to say it, Richard Wright's passing will almost certainly ensure there will never be a(nother) Floyd reunion gig - far more so than any passing semblence of sanity sans vanity from Mr Waters.

Shine on crazy dude.

While he didn't sing as many of their songs as I think he should have, his voice I always found to be an effective contrast to the others - especially in Time, like these all too true lines (even if I'm not English)

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

"So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here."

..........................Wish you were here.
