QUESTION

Someone please explain to me how you can move up 46 places on the leaderboard?

I think the lower a player is on the leaderboard, the more they'll jump when they successfully wager and/or win a showdown. When I was still fairly new, I think one time I jumped over 100 spots! But those days are over.

if all 46 scores are within a limited amount of points, it would be easy with one large wager...how many actual points did they go up?

Sleestak made a comment in another thread regarding
his betting strategy.

He's been around quite a while, so anything is possible
as far as saved up wager tokens. At one time I had
about 25 before I sat down and decided to use them...
badly... I must admit.

win a couple three showdowns or wagers. It also depends on the part of the scoreboard it happens.

Marsha, when you are further down on the scoreboard it is very possible to have big numbers up or down. I am #455 on the all time scoreboard and my points have doubled in the past month - from 15 million and something to 32,349,469 as of now. I think it shows a 54 on the plus side. I made a lucky wager and won a couple of showdowns. When you are at the top I think people are less likely to make the huge wagers - even so, it's still a drop in the bucket for you at the top!

He is at 116 but now it is showing that he only went up 8......so possibly it was a glitch when I first saw him sitting there. Don you were correct on who is was also. All is well.....sorry for the alarm.

I don't get why it never shows me moving up or down, although I've done well lately on showdowns and have moved up quite a bit...

I don't undersand the sleestak move because his profile does not show him to be a gold or platinum member. As such, I don't see how he could be using his wager tokens, as I understand that while non-paying players can accumulate them, they can't use them. What gives? I would be interested in anofficial response from an Editor.

That was my understanding as well - you couldn't use wager tokens without being gold or platinum. Is this no longer the case?

No. it's not the case.. my daughter has something more than 25 wager tokens... sitting there.. not being used... I can't touch'em.. she can't use'em because she's not a paying member... ah what a waste!

I didn't notice that person wasn't a paying member.. really not sure how he/she's wagering... 14 Million to 2.8 Billion in a month ... c'mon Sleestak.. tell us your secret.. I want more points tooooo

It is true that non-paying members cannot wager on TQOTD's. We will investigate.

Sleestak3 WAS a gold member whose membership expired yesterday. They seem to have burnt up a bunch of wager tokens coming up on the expiration date. So what they did was above board. Hopefully, they will re-up their paid membership, as they seem to be pretty sharp. I imagine they could author a pretty good quiz.

Mr. Tim says..
I prefer quizzes from which I learn something. I'm satisfied with a mediocre or even poor score on a quiz that is informative, and the quizzes that are easy, I generally find dull.
I say:
I like all the quizzes.

As many of you know, I keep track of the WTHAI wins. Sleestak3 won the Eethelred the Unready WhoTHAI on August 28. At that point, if he was a non-paying member, he would have won a free month of Gold. As a Gold member, of course, he could then use some of the wager tokens he'd accumulated since he joined Sploofus. In addition, he has won two WTHAIs in September. So, he has been earning points in a perfectly legitimate way. I hope he found the Gold membership so enjoyable that he'll upgrade.

Marsha, when I looked at the Leaderboards, it said he was up 9 spaces. Then I discovered that was in the last 3 days.
In the past 28 days, he has moved up 505 spaces.

You can set the leaderboards to show your progress for the past 3, 7, 14 or 28 days.
I hope this helps.

We're checking it out, but one explanation that fits with what we see is that this player won a month of gold in a WTHAI and went on a wagering spree with a couple of years worth of accumulated wager tokens.

You can't do a couple of years worth of wagering because your TQOTD expire in 10 days, right? So he could only have done 10 wagers max. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

A player is limited on wagers by how many questions are available. If the player had 5 questions they hadn't answered yet and then got 10 more they could make 15 wagers in ten days.

It only on showdowns that you are limited to 1 per day.

Except the questions expire in 10 days. How can you have 15 built up if the first one expired 10 days after you received it.

Received Expires
1. 10/1 10/11
2. 10/2 10/12
3. 10/3 10/13
4. 10/4 10/14
5. 10/5 10/15
6. 10/6 10/16
7. 10/7 10/17
8. 10/8 10/18
9. 10/9 10/19
10. 10/10 10/20
11. 10/11 10/21
12. 10/12 10/22

By the time you reach question 12, question 1 has expired.

If you look at his graph, appears he's been wagering a couple a day for the last month. He's only missed 2 (days).

I'm using him as a "Phone a friend"

Although questions expire, wager tokens do not. You don't decide to use a wager token until you start to open the question so the wager is not attached to the initial question in any way until you decide to use it. Therefore, if he had 50 wager tokens saved up, he could use one daily for each TQOTD he got for the month (30 or 31 wagers). Plus if happened to have saved up any questions before they expired prior to winning the month of gold, then he would have those questions to wager on as well. There is no limit to their use as is the case with showdowns, so if he had 10 questions saved up he could do 10 wagers one after another. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah that's what I meant. You can stack up your wager tokens, but you can't stack up your questions because they expire.

with the Word Puzzles has at least accomplished one
thing: he/she has managed to sow suspicion on all
parts of the island.

How hard is it to believe someone can be on a roll,
wager like a madman, and be intelligent and well read
enough to blow a few doors off. Not everyone flat lines

Sleestak3 had a 30 day window of gold membership. During that time they cashed a total of 26 wager tokens (I counted them, myself)...well within the parameters of the situation. Their jump in score is a result of their combined wins and losses.
