I wrote Lodi/Essus/Lori to check on her - she was one of the first people I "met"on sploofus and as many of you loved her sense of humor and the warmth that she treated me with - at that point I didn't realize she was one of the long time sploofusers, but as others have pointed out, she is/was "popular" - just because of who she was - last January when my husband quit his job and our well went out, she was very helpful because she had been through the same "well" issue and had given me some valuable advice - and I just appreciated her listening...that being said she wrote back and said to feel free to share her message with everyone - so I'm doing that.

Hey Lorri, good to hear from you. No, no one hurt me. It just got to be that every time I logged into sploofus, I did so with trepidation and usually ended up with a stomach ache from all the animosity and backbiting. I would get so frustrated and angry with the fighting, and equally frustrated and angry that Justin rarely fixes anything in sploofus. The two things coupled together finally hit me hard this week and I said to myself "I'm actually paying money to belong to a site that just makes me feel bad." Its been really hard watching people that I've always considered friends turn into these ugly manifestations of themselves over politics. And its been really hard watching a site that has been part of my life for three years, just become an untended mess. So I decided it was time to back away. I told no one because I wasn't looking for anyone to beg me to stay and all that, although in doing so, I feel really badly that I let down some of the really good people on sploofus, and for that I am geniunely sorry. I wasn't trying to make a statement of any kind, however, that being said, I hope my departure gives people pause to think about how ugly their words can be, and gives Justin a kick in the butt to make the site as it should be, and as he promised.

You are welcome to share my message with everyone. Let them know this hasn't been an easy decision for me - it feels much like a painful but much needed divorce. I hope everyone is well, and I've read the kind words they have written. I am touched by their words and glad to see that some people saw me as more than a smartass.

Take care, and write often.

Crap. I never really thought of Lodi as a smartass. But I'll work on it. I don't think it's gonna help the sadness, though.

Thanks for letting us know. I've written to Lodi as well, but I haven't receive a response.

I feel a big gaping hole in our site now. I'm really sad too.

Thanks for posting this, Lorrie. I hope her departure is not in vain. A big part of Sploofus' personality is gone, and I miss that. I wish her well.

While Lodi's decision to leave saddens me, and her voice and lively spirit have been greatly missed, I respect her decision. I hope she enjoys her time away from Sploofus to reconnect with other things important in her life. If she chooses to return someday, we'll rejoice. Until then, I wish her all the best.

"Lodi/Essus/Lori": I've noticed your despair for months at the "loss of community" and also your efforts to kickstart some of the pleasant funny civil discourse that used to be the rule around here, rather than the exception. I've gotten to where I just do my daily question, WP's when it works out, sometimes a wager or showdown, a quiz or two if something catches my interest, peruse the topics in the chat lineup and mostly pass on even reading any of it. Your name on this one caught my eye, but I've no interest in hearing what trivia board participants think about the US elections, especially if the topic title includes abusive language.

So, I miss you Lori, and I miss Sploofus. If I lose interest in the trivia games any further, I'll probably drop out too. There are some really good people here, but a few skunks have really stunk up the area, and Daddy Justin is off taking the Ring to Mordor or something. It was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?

I wrote and haven't heard back either. Which really hurts a LOT because I thought we were special (sorry, Lodi, but if you'd talk to me I wouldn't be posting here). I'm absolutely desolated that she's gone, leaving this huge empty place where I used to be able to talk to her at nearly any time of the day or night. She's been a presence in the corner of my living room for two and a half years, always ready with a word of support or a joke just when I needed it most - well, I need it right now and she's just gone without goodbye. It's like eesusbejesus committed cybersuicide and I'm trying really hard not to feel that I'm partly to blame. I know some of you think I am, but it's impossible for me to know what to think when she won't communicate with me.

We didn't "fight", but from things she said in a brief IM continuation of the Sarah Palin discussion about a week before she quit, she was deeply disappointed in me for criticizing Palin, and said it showed a lack of integrity because I had not been equally critical of my own side. I don't know what to say to a trusted friend who questions my integrity for speaking my mind, I haven't had any practice in that situation. It's hard to believe Lodi wasn't sensitive to the graveness of the insult, so that kind of took the wind out of me (okay, it hurt like hell and really pissed me off) and after that our few contacts degenerated to chat about recipes. We spoke briefly about Scott's family and I told her I'd used pomegranate vinegar in her noodle salad and she said it sounded yummy, which was the very last word I had from her, a few days before she left.

I've reread everything I posted in the political threads, numerous times, and can't find anything I've said deserving of being dropped like a hot rock by someone who had come to feel as close to me as family; the abruptness of it all has been a severe shock and continues to be a heavy gray weight I'm dragging around behind me. I can't believe how much I miss her. I can only surmise that the problem between us went deeper and farther back than Sarah Palin, but how or what or why I cannot say. So there it is. To any who have been offended by my opinions, I can sincerely say offense was never my intention.

Lodi, I miss you tremendously. Please come back.

Thankyou lori for shareing that ,say hello for me next time you get in touch .I miss her sparkling wit ,but respect her decision . The site has been very erratic , and still is and i think politics should be kept seperate because this is supposed to be a site for people to play quizzes .and the best benifit is makeing new friends who allways lend an ear when your down ,or just the general banter .which my i say has made me smile meny a lonely night I hope in time that lodi wil come back .my penny worth

I have a scathingly brilliant idea

The next time somewhat puts up a post like the one Tex did, DON'T RESPOND! Don't say a word. It will just fade away into the sunset within 24 hours.

I'm in....

You in? Let's make a pact for Lodi's sake!

I'm in too BBEAR....
I've noticed there are far fewer posts on Saltydog these days.
Lets all hope EVERYONE comes back and joins in when these "flipping" elections are over.

SMOKE, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad....It's not - never - your fault. Please remember that.
These elections are arousing too many bad feelings. Tex has been missing from the site
for a long time and then came in stirring the pot. It just seems some people here love the
various conflicts. Makes life more interesting, so long as you aren't at the centre of the storm.

It's like in any family....when you've had a bad day - and you come home and kick the dog!!!!
And many people have said Sploofus feels like their second family....
That being said....when we have all calmed down....we can all come home....

Good idea most likely. However, don't believe it will work-similar to folks stopping by and accident scene and then chatting about it. Lodi is missed. Her absence is very obvious because of her ever-presence in the forums. Other valuable players are also gone or at least not vocal-some never were but did their parts by writing quizzes and all. I do not believe the site will ever regain the aura of the "small town" again. It has been poited out before that is the price we pay for growth-believe the change occurred with 2.0. Linda

It does not appear Lodi quit because of Tex's least not because of what Tex, himself, posted...if you read her posts from that thread. It seems that she is more irritated that members were so appalled by the criticism of Obama, particularly when she felt her party and candidate choice had been nit picked and pulled apart in rude ways....I can see how she may feel people were being hypocritical. However, I also think Tex went a bit too far in calling people names. I didn't read the other political threads, so I don't know if they had name calling.

I don't think she quit because of a disagreement with any one specific player, either, though buttons may have been pushed....that happens with friends. I think it is cumulative, I think it has alot to do with the way the site's been run. She has much on her plate, lately. I hope she just needs a break.

Alright, I'll make one comment here before I fade into the cyber ether myself for good while, if not forever.

Easy had it exactly right. There was a nice little community here with some fun content drivers and leaders, like Easy, and it has died on the vein since the transition, for negligence.

-- The shout function went to heck, from being a central point to a barely used backwater.

-- The (some?) board editors hit violation thumbtacks with sledgehammers and then ignore flame wars. I have heard that the editors were all named after meeting Justin some years back at an event. I doubt there has been any quality control since then. Yes, they are all volunteers. But their abilities and temperments undoubtedly follow the human bell curve, but they are an integral part of the quality of the product.

-- There is no/slow reaction to good/obvious suggestions about new boards or dividing political stuff out of Salty.

-- There is no/slow reaction to problems like quiz comments and the setting up of groups.

-- Quiz approval times became mad lengthy.

-- And, to be blunt, the WPs had a spark when members were first allowed to contribute, but since then they have become s@##T. Yeah, I said it.

Maybe start addressing the above and the place will spark back, or at least attract and retain other content providing members.

So, I'm wandering off with Easy, at least for awhile. Besides, she needs me. Who else is going to shave her back?

Peace, out.

As always, it comes down to whether you think the
pot is half full or half empty....
If you came to Sploofus for the Trivia....then it's still here,
and the teething problems will be worked out in time.
If you expect Sploofus to be ain't like that.

I will miss the posts of both Smaug and Lodi. I hope, in due time, they will return. And I hope in the meantime, that people will stick to trivia on this site and politics certainly isn't trivial! I am a relative newbie here on the island, but I hope no more of the old-timers leave, because, in my opinion, they are the backbone of this site (along with Justin when he puts his mind to it) and the site just wouldn't be the same!

I saw her as just another smartass! Just kidding. Mostly. When I think of Sploofus I first think of Justin but the next person that comes to mind is Lodi. BTW how is (in this case anyway) Lodi pronounced? Low-Die or LowDee?

Low' Dee. Accent on the first syllable.

And Smaug, I have to say that since you were so desperately hurt at home (and Justin's problems too) there has been a damper on the fun aspect.

We're all kind of mourning in sympathy of the death of the easy, light-hearted, naughty, offensive, obnoxious, wonderful posts back when we were naive - or protected, at least.

We have all been hit with a nasty-tasting dose of reality as we hurt for the hurt of our friends and heroes. (Not to mention those affected so deeply by the hurricanes). There's a lot of pain around from weather and economy .....and now sadness here.

So it becomes easier to just get all pissed off at the elections which have to do with NOBODY here personally. We needed a target and we took it. But our sadness at the pain of others is still there underlying our thoughts.

I tend to disappear from time to time, but, as a long time member ( not as long as some, I know) I stop by to lend my 2 cents.... Protect the masses, occasionally INFLAME the masses, and to do the TQOTD.

Some of you have known me for quite a while. Sometimes we agree. Sometimes not.... Funny, Smoke and I are often on the same wavelength... Obviously not this time. Chick and I have been insulting each other in fun for almost 2 years. Easy thinks I am a sexual deviant ( I think she likes it)

I have been oft supported in my occasional outrage, and sometimes my outrage has caused outrage. But we were all still a community of friends. This time it seems to be different. A new breed is at hand. And my type seems awfully unwelcome. So, I will continue my TQOTD's.... And leave you all to yourselves.

Smoke, Chick, Kaelin, Saltzy, Smaug, Heidi, Swiper, Allena, Tuzilla, Slicko and Easy.... It's been fun. If I have forgotten any other friends, please forgive..... ( I think some of these have abandoned long before now.) BYE.

Hey Tex, don't disappear on us again. It's not that you aren't wanted here.. I enjoyed lots of chuckles over some of your posts in the past. It's just that this thread has become so angry that I'm not sure that most of us know how to respond to it.

It's one thing to be passionate about a subject and another to be vehement.

I don't want to say it doesn't matter who we elect, because of course it does. On the other hand, I am sure this country will survive/.

Besides, you'll have to come back .. you didn't tell us where to send the Scotch.

Judy, you are so right. Life is too short and life is too hard, especially now with the economy like it is, to let ANYTHING said on a trivia site ruin your day. People are spouting off out of frustration and fear. I just stopped reading those threads....and am taking my Zoloft faithfully.

Erin0620  (Level: 77.2 - Posts: 737)

Hey Aunty--
I don't think in Lodi's case it was "someone hurt my feewings, so I'm a takin' my ball, AND I'M GOING HOME!" I think its an annoyance with repeated negativity, coupled with irritation regarding the maintenance of the site. I think leaving the site for a while will be like her Zoloft.

That being said, you could still donate Zoloft to the rest of Sploofus, who made need it get over Lodi leaving. I would donate, but all I have are anti-psychotics.

TEX didn't say he was getting "evil PMs"
because people blame him for the fact
that Lodi has (hopefully, temporarily)
removed herself....
The evil Pms are probably more to do with
the childish name-calling and thoughtless
repitition of false Republican rumours....

I too will miss Eesus and Smaug. They both brought something unique to this site. Eesus contributed a life-giving sparkiness to the conversations and Smaug is highly informed with a bizarrely witty twist. With the increasing number of people joining this site it was never going to remain the cosy little island I understand it once was. This is not a criticism. Maybe the answer is to work with what is available- a group of people/friends across the globe who have created and maintained this quiz site almost entirely voluntarily in the spirit of having fun by creating quizzes, puzzles.groups, these posts, etc. and ensuring that fair play & standards are upheld to the best of their ability. In my book that's a great achievement.

Its a new island, I personally, am tired of hearing about the old island --- I have been on here for years and am not part of the old island -- I like this site, I like the people - I like the the intelligent discourse that occurs -- what bothers me was the complaints about the political discussions on how awful they were -- but at least people responded to them -- sometimes its like pulling teeth to get people involved in the not controversial posts -- I vote for less complaining and more joining in... I know old friends cant be replaced but life is change -- lets all enjoy each other, old and new...
