Mine is Dorothy.

I always accused my mother of being in la-la land when she named me. Alice Dorothy. Right out of kid-fic. She denied it over and over, but I still don't believe it.

For some reason, I was christened Susan Kingston. The weird part is that Kingston was supposedly a distant family name somewhere down the line, but nobody could ever recall how they're related or why a child was named in their honor. Personally, I think it had a lot more to do with my last name beginning with the letter "K" than anything else.

I would have much preferred a pretty and girly name. I've never liked it at all. Naturally, my daughter's given names are Lily Caitlyn. Much better!

I don't mind it now.

I got given my mother's middle name for my first name (Beryl) and have hated it all my life - but never to the point of doing anything about it!

Regarding *my* middle name, though - well, it begins with I, ends with Z and has four letters - and you either know it or you don't. Feel free to PM me if you really don't know it (and can't find it out!).

I grew up one of 4 kids, my mother is German -- you would have thought they would mix up the names but no, they divided them into German/English names
Martina Gaby
Christina Lee
Dirk Wolfgang
Kenneth Andrew!

Me -- Beth Ellen
Her -- Virginia Kirston

Too cute, Huh?

My mommy gave me two!

Robin Natalie Ariane. Natalie was my grandma's name and I am guessing that Ariane was one of the first names in the "name your baby" book and she just closed her eyes and pointed!

True story, I was supposed to be Kelly Nicole, but Gerryn (mom's) handwriting was so bad the read it as Micole. So here I am Kelly Micole.

Fave is my daughter, husband is Victor, so her name is Victoria Kelly and hyphenated last name of both of ours. I put both of our names into hers!! I'm a friggin genius.

I LOVE Micole! That's gorgeous. And I love Dirk Wolfgang - strong name.

I'm Kathleen. I tried to get kids to call me Katie in 9th grade, but I couldn't get it to stick. (Katy, the Farmer's Daughter. I wanted to be her - and wear that gorgeous sweater dress she wore on the cover of TV Guide.)

Mine is so simple -- Ann

No e on the end to make it fancy. I always liked it. In fact, I tried to get people to call me Ann but it never stuck.

The only time I hated my middle name was when I was little and my mother would yell PATRICIA ANN ... and I knew I was in trouble (which was a lot of the time!).

Speaking of calling your kids, names. I named my oldest children Caroline and David, my siblings are Christina and David. Growing up, I constantly called them all the wrong names. My youngest child, was very very upset when I fouled up the name ..... I called out Mitzie.... since his name is Paul he was not amused.
Oh, and Mitzie was the dog.

That happens a lot at our family gatherings held once a year or so. We have Lily, Loulie, Libbie, Sally and Berkeley. Three of the males are named Jack, so it's not so bad there. Usually, someone will answer.

My middle name is Theresa which is also my mother's name. My first name is actually Barbara Anne. Barbara was my maternal great-grandmother and Anne was my maternal grandmother.
My one brother is Anthony Carmen switching the order of my dad's name and my youngest brother got away with just Vincent. Guess my parents got tired of coming up with multiple names by the time he came along
Of course I kept the tradition with my children, Michael Carmen and Melissa Anne Theresa.

my middle name is -- Genese -- pronounced Gin-Niece. It is the name i'm called by family and it's my "first name" on my Social Security card..

Dad gave me his mother's name as my first name. -- Wahnita. She told me it was an Indian name but she didn't know what tribe.

Chyenn Long is the pseudonym i adopted when i joined a fiction writers group on the net 10 yrs ago. Mother told me a long time ago that if i had been a boy she would have named me Cheyenne after her favorite 50's TV western. I loved it and and changed the spelling to suit me.

Lots of similarities here with names for me:
Ann is my middle name (no e ),
Elizabeth is my first name (was my mother's middle name and is now my eldest daughter's middle name - and she plans to name her daughter Elizabeth as a first name), my mom shortened it to Lisa
But, I was the youngest of 7 so I, as well, thought for the longest time that my name was "glendavecraigdonbriandebbieLISA!"

My middle name is Peggy. It's not Margaret, but Peggy. I had to fight for this name through 13 years of Catholic school. 8th grade graduation the nuns refused to honor the name on my baptismal certificate and made me graduate as Maureen Margaret. In high school they wouldn't recognize it either. In a sea of graduates with middle names, I was announced as Maureen P O'****.

Not sure anyone is interested in any of that but it always ticked me off that the nuns rubbed it in that my middle name was a "heathen" one. You can be sure they let me know they didn't approve of my middle name! I wrote it on everything just to annoy them!

I guess I'm still ticked off at those nuns, god bless them....

My older brother and I both got a parent's first name as our middle. He got Dad's Charles as his middle and I got Mom's Roberta as mine. Never really liked it, but I like using the initial with my first name to jazz it up a bit. Judith R. (But that's Judy to my friends, including sploofusers)

When Mom was preggers with her 4th, she planned on naming it Carrie Lucile if it turned out to be another girl. Carrie was my dad's mom and Lucile was Mom's mom. Ended up with another brother (Mr. Fainodraino!!!) and was so ticked at him for being a boy!!! But I ended up naming my girl Carrie Lucile. She likes it. I always call her Carrie Lu.

I'm Susan Marie (especially when my mother was mad - and then it came out with a Southern accent for no really good reason). I hated it when I was young but only because it was fashionable then to hate your middle name!

I worked in a company once where three out of 5 of us had Marie as a middle name, so we just decided the other two would be called that anyway...Christopher Marie always cracked us up!

I had a friend who would never tell her middle name although we knew it started with a J. We would guess and guess but she would never tell. Eventually we just decided to call her by the most ridiculous one we could come up with, thinking it had to be worse than whatever was the real name. We alternately called her Brenda Jemima and Brenda Jalapeno. She preferred those names to whatever it really was though!

Mine is Christine which is the anglicized form of Kirsten, my Swedish grandma's name. When I was young I'd have loved to be called Christine rather than the boy's name Randy. Mommie dearest, why, why, why? We called my Mom that, after that book came out about Joan Crawford, but only as a joke. Mom's real name was Doris, which she hated (like mother, like daughter) & in my teens I started calling her Dorisa & so did all my friends. She actually liked that & us girls & our friends called her that until she died unless it was a serious conversation & then she reverted back to Mom
