Since 8/31 I have won 3 showdowns and lost 2. The amount of points every single time has been 214,748,364. Why are all those points EXACTLY the same each and every time? That makes no sense to me. I would please like clarification on that.
I know, I know, they are "just points"..........

You have hit the max - it is the same rule as why once you exceed 4,000,000,000 points you cannot wager any more than 1000,000,000. The max on a showdown is around 214,000,000. Some very clever Sploofer explained once how those numbers were actually arrived at - can't remember the details - has something to do with computers. Of course I know about as much about computers as I do Punk Rock (of which I have now had two music questions in a row!)
Hope that helps.

Slicko is totally correct. I don't understand it either, but the max for showdowns is 214 million, and the max for wagers is 1 billion.

You know, a month ago I took a course in SQL database query language, and one of the things they mentioned was that when using Microsoft SQL Server database system and you ask for a field to be stored as an integer, the highest number it can represent is 2^31 - 1.

We no doubt have a situation here where when points are being transferred after a Showdown, the basis for the transfer is being shoveled into such a storage area, and if it exceeds the max, simply the maximum value is being put there instead. Divide that by 10, and voila, the payoff.

The good news of course is it caps your losses, as well as winnings.

So as usual, it's all Bill Gates' fault. Move Sploofus to Oracle and that particular problem goes away

BTW, I have a hunch that a lovely lady in Chicagoland is working on a WP about punk songs about computers ...

Gary, In my humble opinion, you should get more for the Showdown than a regular Wager. With the wager, you know the
category. With the Showdown you can get the beloved Snooker or Croquet questions. I actually had a Snooker question in a Showdown last week, got it right, and became a Billionaire. Do you get a badge or medal for going over a Billion ??

I hadn't even noticed; I may have hit the max yesterday.
So much for incentive.

I'm glad I read this today, the last day of my platinum
membership. One more reason not to renew (at least
not at the $50 rate).

Are you referring to the dreaded Chick Ken?? I wouldn't be surprised to see a puzzle from her on those topics!!!
Hmmm Chickken - could be a new sploofus user name.
