The sheltie, that I waited so long to get via rescue-Sally-died today.-had her a little over a year. She was fine yesterday but began vomiting during the night and again this am. Am so very grateful to the man who rents a room from me as he carried her into the vet's office as she could no longer walk. She literally died on the vet's table. Because the rogression was so rapid both the vet and I believe she was poisened Thereare duplexes in back of my house where my yard is and there have been people in and out of there very rapidly. Yesterday saw the young teenage boy pointing his finger at my dog -have/had three-like he was shooting a gun. I can prove nothing but glad his place is up for rent yet again as hate to think what I am thinking. . There is an enormous hole in my home and in my heart where Sally was-Linda

Ditto on what everyone else has said. Our animals are part of our family and it is tragic for us to lose one. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Oh, honey, that just breaks my heart. It's devastating to me to lose my old dogs when it's their time, and even when I do, I usually have two or three other dogs to help with the pain of letting go the one that's gone. I can only imagine how sad you are to lose your dear companion. You may never know what happened, but always remember that you made her happy and gave her the best year of her life.

I know you don't feel ready yet, but I strongly recommend that you get another dog soon. A new dog will never be your Sally, but it will be wonderful in its own special way, and it will help fill the void from the first minute you meet. Somewhere not far away right now is a dear doggie who needs a home and the same love and companionship you need. I hope you find each other soon. I think Sally would want you to.

I too send healing thoughts your way. It's one thing to lose a beloved pet to old age, but another to lose it because of someone's evil actions. And I agree with Smoke, that you can honor your dog in the best way by eventually giving another homeless one your love.

So sorry to hear about this, Linda. Maybe you should report this to the police.

My precious cat Rufus died last night after a long illness. She died in our bed while being held by Jim and me. No pain. A stray we have had for 12 years. My heart is broken. Buried her next to ashes of my grandson. Sometimes life is very hard.

Don't know where my previous post has gone, but....

Linda I am so so sorry for your loss, and hope you
have plenty of pictures of Sally to comfort you....

They say that serial murderers start by killing animals
so I wonder if you've been in touch with the police
about the matter....this guy needs watching....

Like Smoke - I hope you feel better soon and can think
about getting another pet....maybe a cat so you don't
have to worry about it going outside alone....and there
are so many more cats that need a good home and
and would return your loving spirit.

Linda and Beth - Tears are streaming down my face as I remember the heartbreak of each loss and I feel for both of you. Linda especially in your case - it is so very much harder to lose a pet unexpectedly in the earlier years and the anger and suspicion make it so much worse.

and hugs.

So very sorry about your cat and hope you will feel better soon.

Linda, I too add my deep sorrow for your loss of Sally. She was soooooooo very lucky to have you, and you to have her for that time. Thank you for rescuing her - I know that was a big deal you went through to get her.

May I also add my pleas for you to call the police. If someone poisoned your dog, there may be poison around somewhere and other animals (or children?) could end up sick or worse also. Anyone who can poison an animal for no reason is someone who has potential to do it more often and/or go for something that is a bigger thrill to their very very sick brain.

My heart goes out to you.

Linda, I am so sorry to hear about Sally. I know you put forth a lot of effort to get her and this is going to leave such a empty spot in your home and heart.

Years ago I had a German shepherd that died suspiciously. She was walking across the yard, staggered and died; it was that fast. The vet suspected she might have eaten something that had ingested mouse/rat poison. Evidently the city was putting out a lot of poison to get rid of the mice and rats.Quite a few dogs died around that time. Personally, I always felt someone was throwing out poisoned meat.

A call to the police department is really wise because it at least gets it on record that she died under suspicious circumstances. If they receive other calls from your area, it may help them find out the cause or the culprit.

Bbear, sorry to hear about your cat, too. These furry critters sure have a way of getting into our hearts. What a lucky cat, though, to have be picked by you!

So sorry about your dog Linda. I echo the other comments, make sure the police know, it happened to a friend of mine years ago and it was rat poison a neighbor had put down to control the vermin.

Keep your chin up.

this is from

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

"While Waiting for Thee:
Don't weep at my grave, for I am not there,
I've a date with a butterfly to dance in the air.
I'll be singing in the sunshine, wild and free,
Playing tag with the wind, while I'm waiting for thee.

My sympathies to you all who have lost furry, four-legged kids. I know how much they can mean to you. The loss and heartache can be as great as it would be for a human member of the family.

Linda, I can well imagine your sorrow. Your Sally was loved for the brief time you had her and she surely felt it to the end. I hope the days get easier soon. If she was poisoned, the poisoner will get his, someday, somehow----I firmly believe, you reap what you sow.
