There seems to be so much anger on the board right now, I have to share something that happened today.

Some of you know that my 3-yr old grandson has been diagnosed with PDD (pervasive developmental disorder) and autism. His speech is very poor, and is about the level of most 21-month old's speech. His diction is terrible. Of course, he is absolutely adorable - that goes without saying.

So today, my daughter asked him if he would go down to the basement of the apartment house to help her get the laundry. He told her No. Then she asked again, and he replied - "I don't THINK so."

I was so excited to hear of that exchange. I think it is the first real conversation he has participated in. Everybody have a glass of chocolate milk on me!!

Wow BigBird....
what a wonderful story, hope there are many more to come.
Whatever you do, don't lose hope....

Children do often seem to progress at their own pace....
When my daughter was TWO she couldn't even say Momma and Dadda !!!!
Then one day we were all sitting at the table, eating dinner....and she said
"I don't like this. Can I get down please????"
Turns out she was just a perfectionist.... got her degree in Math and Science,
and taught computer applications for many years.

Alice, my son is Autistic, I share your angst & your love Just to let you know, he's in Grade 11 & regular classes, doing well with A's & B's. He struggles socially but he's come a long way. It's truly amazing how their minds work. Cheers
