HERE'S MY DEALEO

I think I've been pretty succinct in my posts when I've started them, except for the fluff ones (that was for you Linda).

We've lost some really fun, eloquent and intelligent people here, in droves lately. If we can't all come to a place where civility and the exchange of useful information is the basis for our continued patronage of this site, then all is lost (with the occasional interjection of sarcasm).

Some people quit because they were tired of the BS, some because of other reasons and some quit because personal attacks should not be allowed here, that's what the rest of the internet BBSs are for.

Let me be very clear about my feelings, I don't particulary CARE who is or is not an editor (cept for Sploofizz, cause he/she is just evil). For the life of me I can't understand why anyone else would care. I'm here to antagonize and irritate Sicko and all the rest of the boys. If the editors can't post to the BBS and participate in the rest of the things on this site, who is going to do it? Not me, for damn sure. I don't have the time nor the energy nor the "integrity but for their ability to remain level-headed and calm and to make reasonable and fair decisions", because trust me, some of this BS has and would make me insane and you would damn well know know about it.

Much to my family's chagrin, I've been here like forever and a day. I really enjoy the site and the people on it. REFOCUS. We all know that I'm a big fan of Randy Pausch and you can either be a Tigger (and bounce through life) or and Eeyore (and wonder why everyone and everything is out to get you). And, civilized human beings can have discussions without being antagonistic and rude (I'm excluding myself from that one due to the definition of civilized, I looked it up)

I'm finished with my diatribe, but I hope that we all can just calm down and relax.

Me.

Good post! I think I must be thick skinned enough to never have been offended enough to be "hurt" by anyone on this site. Some of my posts have brought critical responses from others but never has it upset me enough to actually cause me to retaliate by name calling, etc. With that off my chest I would like to add that I would not want to see these forums turned into a display of continual brown-nosing, butt kissing nausea.
With all the crap going on with the economy, the stupid war, corporate greed, foreclosures, etc, and then throw in a national election I'm not surprised to see a few hackles get raised. Internet forums are a great way to vent so lets keep the debates going and eliminate the personal attacks. The only thing that would make me quit is if this place turned into a mutual admiration society.

Onward and Upward

Other than calling me evil, I thought that was a very fine and cogently expressed post.

Maybe I missed all of the really nasty personal attacks because they were made in threads that are now deleted. With the exception of some rhetorical overkill, i.e., "Obama's supporters are all idiots", I don't really recall anything lately that II would consider as a particularly offensive personal attack. Again, if a particular thread causes you to lose perspective, don't go to it after making this discovery.

Exactly. There's plenty to get worked up about in the real world. We come here to have fun, be challenged and well....kick back. But not at each other. If you don't like what you're reading, ignore it and walk away. I'm as rabid about my beliefs as the next person but I know I''m not going to change minds. And I didn't come here to do that. I came here to have fun and meet interesting people. There are always going to be people that rub me the wrong way but they won't get the time of day from me on here. If I like you, I'll talk to you. And I like most of you guys

To be honest, I don't want Tex banned from the site. Yeah I've missed alot, and only know "the half of it", but I've read some of his deleted posts and they don't seem that bad. Why not just ignore him if you don't agree or feel he is stirring up trouble? I feel that people responding to him when they are angry or don't agree just gives his posts power they may not deserve.

I've no objection to tex though I disagree with everything he writes and hated the uncivil tone of the first few comments. But we sorted that out; the tone has improved. Moreover he probably feels the same about my comments --and that's fine too. I'm not going to scare him off and vice versa.

BUT --and here's the BUT... until tex and some others started posting political propaganda on the pages the tone was civil. Its the politics (Which I've argued are entirely out of place on THIS discussion site) that caused the problems that led to the rudeness that led to tears before bedtime. There were a few people who did quit over other things -- but only a very few and most are back now.

So Mr Sploofus why dont you takeit into your hands to stop all this nastiness; move the politics or ban it!

Good thoughts, Chick. I also agree with Donden-curmudgeon that he is though-that the "suck-up" "butt-kissing" posts are really sickening after a bit. Also like Jeremy's words about not banning anyone for the threads that were deleted so fast. Pepperdoc, explained it best for me with her explanation of why the political threads caused such disaster. In keeping with her words I hope the folks quitting was not in vain. Things are broken here and need fixing. 2.0 certainly changed things and agree that change can be a plus but not if it is expected to work in an outdated system. Taking a deep breath is a good thing to do while things are figured out and not just expected to be okay because they are ignored and not talked about-Linda

I have no problem with a different forum for politics, religion, and other controversial topics -- as suggested by Garrybl -- but i totally oppose any effort to censor policitical discussion. This site sells itself as a "community". In any community, there will be differences of opinion. In fact, from my perspective, the site would not have a "community feel" if we couldn't freely discuss all issues of interest.

I, too, do not want Tex banned. Although I disagree with his politics, nothing I have seen that he posted should have reduced anybody to "tears before bedtime" (thanks to Elvis Costello). In fact, I liked Tex's original over-the-top rhetorical style because it actually seemed to have the tendency to push undecideds away from the political views he espouses.

Good for you, TSK. I don't know what my politics are but do not believe some people's posts should be deleted while others are not. Still think there is an editor/player issue here but since Justin has disappeared for all practical purpose, that will not be addressed as are so many other issues. I really like Revdodd's post in one of the threads with many deletions where he said something to the effect that now that the horse is out of the barn should we muck it out or build a new one. ( sorry if by paraphrasing your words I changed their meaning). Putting a block on posts has not stopped the "simmering" here and am sure group "hugs" won't do it either. I am not knocking Chick's post as have had a major row with her before and not up to it again-besides I like her as I did all of those who left. Any anger I currently have developed after the fact-Linda

Diva: I admittedly base my statement on several of the posts I read in reference to the initial Tex posts and based on my own experiences in what tends to persuade people. In any event, Tex should not be censored even though he has wingnut political views. (Does that count as a personal attack on Tex?)

Well, Linda, you are still invited to the group hug even if you don't think it will change anything. Can you tell me if it will hurt anything or anyone?

Of course, you know we are talking about "cyberhugs", so .... ????

By the way, here's a quote from Dr. Abraham Low, author of Mental Health Through Will Training and founder of the group Recovery, Inc.: "An insincere gesture of friendship is better than a sincere gesture of hostility." or something along that line. I loaned out my book and never got it back.

Your posts are always good, Pat. I am certainly not mad at you .Just watched a documentary on Walmart on the Encore Channel. It was certainly not complimentary. I as little about economics as I do politics so perhaps the slant clouded my judgment. It pointed out the great wealth as opposed to the state of the workers-China especially. Also noted that Walmart depends on Medicaid for its healthcare. I live very close to a Walmart and when my kids were visiting, they refused to shop there. Does that make them Democrats or just homane?? I really don't know anything any more after a nasty teen poisoned my dog. As it stands now I most likely will not vote atall and that will make about as much difference as what I say here Linda

Pat's posts are good because she says what she means. I don't always agree with her but Ido respect what she says. Chick did have some good thoughts but I stand by everything I said including the editor/player issue. The number of deletions in the past day or so make that a very valid point. I do not suffer from paranoia either. If it were possible to pull up old posts-another broken feature-that would be apparent. Excuse me if I don't feel very much like "Tigger".
