Not too likely here. Because of my work schedule, for the first time in ages, I'll have to vote after work, rather than in the morning. No idea how long the lines will be, but it very well might turn out that it's too late for me to go to my would-be pub of choice and their ultra-limited parking.

I already voted - no waiting for me - hopefully I'll be in San Antonio waiting to hear if our band wins state - if not - Canton's dry, I'll have to send out.

Lorri - good luck! Ours got a 1 last weekend, but they're #5 and won't be going to SA. I'm jealous!

I claim Pittsburgh as home, but I actually live in a small village -- we dont even have a stop light -- if I ever had to wait in line for one of the 2 machines I probably would faint!

What's this 'early voting' that we see on UK news is already happening now?
Here, we all have to vote on the one day.
How does it work in the US then?

If you can not be present on Election Day, you can cast an absentee ballot. Of course you have to know that your plans will be taking you elsewhere on that day and request the ballot so that you can submit it in a timely manner, etc.

You don't actually need an excuse to use an absentee ballot, you can request one. It must be received by Election Day for your vote to count. Disabled people and shut-ins in particular should use absentee ballots so that they can still exercise their right to vote. I imagine many of the absentee votes from people like them.

Lorri - We're 4A. So I guess that means even if we HAD made it to the next level, we wouldn't be at Birdville. I know they used to go to Waco. I'm so out of the band loop - just get dribs and drabs overheard from the band kids (we have several in both band and orch). I just know we have a nice, new band trophy.

I voted absentee yesterday because I will be out of town on Election Day. In the county where I live, there are several absentee polling places. Because the voting there is done electronically, they have ballots for any precinct in the county (there are 50 precincts in this county). Once they scanned my voter registration card, they knew which ballot I needed, handed me a card which I inserted into the voting machine, I recorded my votes, and chi-ching I was done.

We have postal voting for absentees.
Good grief - we still just scrawl an 'X' on a bit of paper!
From your last election though, our simple old system seems to avoid a lot of accusations re voting machines!

Jank - no worries then - state is every other year - this year is 3A & 5A - next year is 2A & 4A...

Not only that, Surreyman, but occasionally, they discover that a "dead" person has voted.
