BUMPINFG THREADS

I am most likely not the best person to post this but.... Bumping of threads to get other ones off the front page as well as posting innane ones just tends to anger people. It is all pretty clear what our views are. I don't like this any more than I like blocking a thread by the editors- Linda

This is certainly one time I don't mind it. It's for a worthy cause.

The bumping threads thing doesn't really bother me either, it's usually for a good cause, or for a question that would have related to probably a small number of users if it were to be answered, like Papermanbills recent bump about ginseng. I kind of get annoyed that threads I have no interest in get bumped through participation all the time!! Can't help that though....

I CERTAINLY have no objection to Paperman's bump-as you said, Stout, can't be helped-seems like a form of censorship or mind control though-Linda

If you want to bump a thread, fine, but for goodness sake, take a moment and find something intelligent and relevant to say while doing so. It doesn't have to be much, maybe a sentence, but without it, you're no better than a spammer IMHO.

As to bumping posts, you certainly can go to any forum to read posts that are no longer in the "latest posts" section. As to inane, dont like the posts or who posts them, dont read them. Or feel free to post bitter, negative posts. (I think you forgot to bash Justin) Thats the beauty of it! I am just glad to see people posting new things, because some posts on here have died a natural death.

And sometimes a bump is a response to a thread that you had not read yet.

Apology accepted Apinavl -- But I read that post twice and I didn't see anything you had done.

I bumped up several posts before I left last night (early this morning), so if you're pointing the finger of blame at me, I'll take it. One I bumped up was about the word puzzle writing contest because I want people who are eligible to participate to do so - I want it to be successful. No, I wasn't a cheerleader in high school so don't think that's what I'm doing now. I prefer the word encourager.

The other one I bumped was the thread I started about the candy recall in Canada. Somehow, in my evidently faulty reasoning, I really thought THAT was more important for people to see than some of the griping and complaining that's been going on in some threads.

And if I can find that thread where we've been putting entries like Tony the Tiger and Mack the Knife, I'm going to open that and add at least one entry, so it's not a bump to just get you off the top of the page. I WANT TO PLAY WITH THE OTHERS.

So TTFN

Speaking of "Bumping Threads"........

I hate seeing inflammatory threads bumped that should have been allowed to die.

Seeing bad feelings stirred up all over again does not make MY day any better, and I bet it messes with other folks' happy mood too.

You may be referring to my bumping a few days back. When all those political talk gone wild threads got a little hurtful I spent quite a bit of time going back and bumping more positive threads to the front. I make no apologies! But you can thank me if you want. Chick did it once when those add something threads got a little out of control and it was really funny. So I say "Power to the bump!"

Last weekend a regular player bumped about twenty threads for no apparent reason. This was done about 2 A.M. EST...
Everything was all mixed up, just like the crazy conversations last week. I figured that this player may have over-served
themself and needed something to do to check their motor functions.

Who's being antagonistic? Except maybe Papermanbill - but he doesn't name the person, I don't know who he meant and I think he's being tongue-in-cheek humorous.

And I say yea for the positive bumps too.

I assumed that Linda was referring to me because I did indeed do some "positive bumping". It was a beautiful day here today and I was relaxing, enjoying the site. Had read many of the threads collecting bad jokes for my nieces, reading people's thoughts on leaf peeping (I live in a prime spot for that), thinking about the baseball game that claimed too much of my sleep time last night.....generally checking in on what people were thinking but not posting. I don't usually post much on the boards but when I saw the contentious political thread pop up to the top again I admit I decided to comment on the threads I had previously read in order to move them up and the contentious thread down. Didn't realize this would be such a problem. Sorry if that was a problem for some but I really didn't think it was a big deal.

Linda - we're all kind of like at the Last Supper, when Jesus told the disciples that one of them would betray Him. Each disciple (except the real, guilty one) asked, "Is it I, Lord?"

I know you're trying to not hurt feelings, but leaving things open ended without putting a name to the complaint seems to hurt everyone instead of just one. Surely there is a diplomatic way to get your point across without leaving everyone wondering if you're disapproving of an action by all of us "me"s. Please just say the name in some diplomatic way. I think we'd all be happier.

If guilty means bumping a beleagured post, that has outlived its natural life, it was me. If guilty means posting things to make people laugh or give them something to respond to, it was me. If guiltly means encouraging everyone to post thing to replace tired and beaten posts.
now please stare at --- drat, I am out of mind control references....

I resent that in the past, Linda, you have been criticized for your typos to the point you feel so self conscious about it.

We all make typos. It's a wonder we get anything said the way we mean. We're just talking here. I'm so sorry for those past posts from the whoevers. Please relax and stop feeling the need to apologize. If we all apologized like that for each typo, soon Sploofus would be all apologies. You don't owe anyone anything.
