This is in the believe it or not category. However when you have a once in a lifetime opportunity sometimes you just have to take it.
Was on advanced trade training in Borden, Ontario during September and October 1993, which is one hour’s drive from Toronto. Had caught a few weekend games in September during the regular season at what was called Skydome at that time. The playoff’s against the White Sox and first five games of the World Series games against the Philadelphia Phillies were viewed on a large screen TV, at one of the messes. Any time the Jays hit a home run we were treated to free hot wings. The Jays led three games to two with the last two games to be played in Toronto October 23 and 24th. This was a once in a life chance and whatever the price I was prepare to pay it. Some classmates lived in Toronto so, drove down with them Friday afternoon. It seemed every hotel was booked. Managed to reserve a room at a Ramada inn for Saturday night. That Friday evening was spent the notorious Spadina Hotel. You know the establishment is no star when it is cash only, the showers and bathroom facilities are at the end of the hall, the TV is black&white, the walls are paper thin and there are burn marks on what was once a rug. Slept on top of the covers fully clothed, while listening to the goings on in the adjacent room.
Joe Carter says there are hundreds of thousands who say they were there when he hit the home run. Well I was there and for years after I had proof. On Friday evening I located an individual with whom I had done business with during the regular season. He could get me a ticket but it was high up and very expensive (in 1993). We met next afternoon and after he had relieved me of 600 dollars I had a ticket. It was one row from the top and had a partly obstructed view. We all know the story, but for the Phillies fans who want to hear it again, Joe Carter hit a World Series winning home run off Mitch Williams. Blue Jays win game 8 to 6. Returned to the hotel by 4 AM and to the base that night with a lifelong memory.

Thank You for reading. Enjoy Game 4.

My hubby and his rowdy friends were sitting in left field. I, of course, was at work. When Carter hit that home run, it missed them by about four rows. If I looked closely, I could see them on the TV - very cool.

Walking home from school in 7th grade, listening on a transistor radio as Bob Gibson pitched the St Louis Cardinals to victory. Best pitcher ever IMHO.

Eating 6 meals, going on a fantastic insider Library of Congress tour, getting about 11 hours' sleep, doing no fewer than four Word Puzzles on Sploofus, and all sorts of other stuff, all during the sixth inning of Game 5 of the 2008 World Series.

ROFL! I'd love an "insider" tour of the Library of Congress!

It was along inning. Guess they didn't need the 7th inning stretch.

That was a very long sixth inning indeed- just aded to the excitement of "we" Phillies fans.

It's also good to know that Congress has a library.
Lifelong learning is rewarding!

Kudos to Thomas Jefferson!
