TUZILLA LOL

I loved your comment on Salty Dog Lite®

Especially with the "registered trademark sign"

I understand the Editors work at the pleasure of Justin. My statement was more directed to what I perceive as an occasional personal agenda from some.

I must agree, however, that I pigeon-holed Editors in general with my feelings about 1 or 2. I must relent to that bias, and refrain.

I agree this site should be family friendly, and, as such, have never used profanity in my posts. However, it has been used in this forum and directed specifically at me. It was quickly deleted. Which I completely understand. It was completely over the edge and beyond the scope. Personally, I wish it could have stayed. It was one of the most entertaining diatribes I've read lately. It is always interesting to see when people resort to cursing in a schoolboy manner. It often reflects true motive.

At the end of the day, I really enjoy real political debate. And I enjoy most Sploofus users.

No, I am not going to dredge up every negative post I can find simply to throw it in the face of editors and call them biased. That would be pigeon-holing all of them into the same pigeon-hole. (ok, that sounds funny.)

But the question remains: Is political discussion banned?

I really don't see the possibility of things remaining civil on the topic this week. Seriously.

And we don't have time to be over here babysitting to see who is going to be offended by what for every single post.

We have work to do to make this site work for 46,000+ patrons. I am working on several word puzzles to take us up to the contest as well as entering all the contest word puzzles. I've already lost several hours.

So, please, everyone, if you do not wish the permanent ban to go into effect, just lay off the subject.

No offense Splooffishy, but another way to reduce time monitoring threads is simply not to worry about deleting comments that may offend some. At least publicly acknowledged people who have left the site because they were offended is relatively few. I'm sure some people will split if the censorship becomes too heavy-handed. The point: I deem it highly implausible that the amount of time spent searching for, and deleting. comments that might offend, is justified by the handful of members who might leave the site because they are offended.

Also,

As there are time constraints in play here. The election is next week. You think I am going to try to "convert" those who have already voted?

So, let it play, for now... As long as it remains civil....

We are aware of more than just a few. We have received many, many support tickets on this issue. And there are scores more who have stopped contributing to this forum because of the negativity. There has been a steady decline in paid memberships, with a big slump coming as of late - not surprisingly from people who have complained about this very problem. We tried hands off - it doesn't work.

And this isn't a matter of free speech. This is a matter of business and growing this business, so it can remain in business.

Please respect our right to run this business as we see fit.

But political discussion is not banned. SO, until it is.... Or until next Tuesday, whichever comes first, I intend to continue to espouse my point of view, albeit with far less vitriol.

Cheers

I wonder just who physically forced these people to read a post they didn't like?

As far as decline in paid memberships, I wonder just who that might be? Seems to me that the people who are rejoicing in the deletions are still here (or back).

I personally will be thrilled when ll/4 is over....I joined this website because of the intellectual stimulus created in the games presented by a "fun group" of people.u. I stoped reading all the dribble about this candidate and that one...Some people just don't get it...No one cares about your opinion except you.

Yea on November 5th we will all be free again...Thank God we'll be free again. (and we can get back to just having fun on this website)

Well I believe I am in the minority but political discussions are too much fun not to have. Years ago I had a barber who would always play the role of devils advocate and could represent either side with equal eloquence. Never knew how the man voted though. I have tried to emulate him over the years but usually wound up losing at both ends. Nothing fazes me at this point,,,,,I have already voted.

Slightly in response to Diva’s post, but really more directed to the general Salty Dog community.

They do not have to read the posts. The titles are enough to create the tension. And each and every time someone responds to one of these problematic threads, it pops right back to the top of the list, setting the tone for the whole forum.

Each time someone tries to move other more positive, more interesting, more Sploofus-relevant, more community-building less community-destroying threads to the top, they are, within mere moments, replaced by the same negative threads over and over and over again.

I know things will not keep quiet for the next week in here. I just know it.

I know because right now, even as some are reading this post, that what we have been telling them repeatedly has not sunk in and that they are not really reading this post at all. Instead, they are plotting in their minds some clever response so that they can get the last word in and look like they are some sort of hero standing up for some principle that they believe they are standing up for. But in reality, they aren't actually standing up for any principle at all - they only believe they are.

When someone perceives that they have been attacked, even in many cases - ever so slightly - it is human nature to go into defensive fight/flight mode. In this state of mind, paranoia abounds, everyone is either with me or against me. Every statement is view through a skewed prism. Objectivity is lost. And in the ensuing battle, the person in this state of mind will be fully convinced that the ends justifies the means. Such people will declare things to be true, even if something is only slightly true (or even an outright lie) and carry out their vengeful attacks against those who they believe have slighted them despite the repeated warnings of people around them.

And even now, there are some saying, "Aha! But you are guilty of the very same thing! Hypocrite! Scoundrel! How dare you accuse us of these things?!"

See? It's a no win situation. And on and on the fighting goes until the end of time. Both sides convinced to their dying day of their righteousness.

Unless everyone calms down, breathes deep and begins talking about the things that unite us rather than divide us.

Perhaps it is not as dramatic, and as “fun” as the fighting, but it is how communities are built.

But I don't expect that to happen. I expect the fighting to continue. Indignation and rage are very difficult feelings to fight and people seem to only feel better by letting it out - damn the consequences. Of course, you could also feel better by washing some dishes, or doing push up.

And now again, some are still protesting! "My cause is real! My anger is just!"

Really? Are you positive? Are you sure it's not just an intellectual veneer over primitive emotions?

"Yes! I am sure! How dare you suggest such things?! Why I've done this and I've done that! And/or I believe in this and that!" And on and on it goes...

Yep, I know this for sure. I know that there are some reading this right now, unable to let go.

But I dare you to prove me wrong.

Sploofishy - how dare you imply that my dishes need washing? This is a total humiliating outrage!

I have not taken part in the political discussions (very much) but, have enjoyed reading other peoples' opinions. Count me as one who will leave if all posts are now allowed to be only pats on the back or "my cat is so cute, she just..." (no offence to cat lovers.. I've got 2).

I understand this is a trivia website but by the very nature of this site, there are many many intelligent and insightful people here who I really enjoy reading posts from.

And there's MY 2 cents :D

Good Luck, Linda. It's often obvious when someone has never previously had any power, nor figured out how to use it. Linda Rocks!
