BASIC - GOLD - PLATINUM: DECISIONS?

I have been a Gold Member of this site since September and have enjoyed the extra benefits for $20.00 a year. This is about .60 cents a month. Not bad for a little enjoyment. Iím lucky enough to create more than a three quizzes within a few days and I can play more Word Puzzles and Word Rounds. Seriously, thatís about all the Ďextra perksí that I get.

The past few days Iíve missed out playing since the system was being Ďupgradedí. Not only did I lose a few days of playing, but now Iím lucky enough to be able to pay MORE for this great upgrade.

Now, I donít know about you, but for $8.00 a month, what more am I getting?! Iím getting an ĎIconí and Priority support. Underlined, no less.

I think next September Iíll just go back to my basic free service at Sploofus. Gold and Platinum are no longer this girlís, best friend.

Ouch.

You are entitled to do what you want. I happen to think this place is well worth the price! I used to have my own webpage and that alone was a mess to try to keep. I cannot even imagine the expense and intricacies of keeping up a site like this, which has nearly doubled in membership since I joined! The features keep getting better and better. When Sploofus mentioned the cost of a new server and the support required to get it running, I gladly upgraded my account (and bought my mom a Gold membership, too). I'm happy to help out to keep this site around.

Having not being able to play for a few days, I thought I was going to go into convulsions. I cannot afford the $49.95 for Platnium, but for $14.95 for 6 months or $30/year (which would be $10 more than what I paid) is WELL WORTH IT.
As much as I know how much people despise ads, if this is what we need to help run the site, then I say do what you have to do.
I have grown to love the site and would not like to see if sputter along if there are things that could be done....

I see another 'poll' coming....
Do what you need to do Justin. The fees are fine, and know that you have many people behind you that are willing to assist you however we can.

blaney - I think Platignm also includes unlimited WR and WP.
I agree it is a big jump finacially from gold though. As I live on disability money I cant see myself making the transition.
I think if I had a lot of spare cash I would just to suport the site,
Maybe a platignum membership upgrade could be given away everyso often as a prize?

Wrod Puzzles are the same for both Gold and Platinum. It's just the WordRounds that are different.

The prize idea sounds great!

I went ahead and upgraded to Platinum, and was happy to do it! But I can sure understand folks thinking that price is a tad steep, and not everyone has an extra $50 lying around.

But I'm sure Justin appreciates all members, basic, Gold and Platinum, and the best way for us to support the site--regardless of our membership level--is to keep on writing and taking quality quizzes, continue quality chat into the chat rooms, and storm those WR and WP leaderboards! The other "best" way to support the site is, of course: TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!

As soon as I get a little extra money, I'm definitely upgrading to platinum. Sploofus is an excellent site and Justin needs our help! I felt lost yesterday without the site! It's a little steep for me being a single mother, but income tax refunds are right around the corner!

I would have gone up to $50/year..but $100/year is a bit steep....especially when there is not much difference between that and gold...and gold is $70/year less. I would imagine if i was a word round player...but as much as i suffered through the withdrawls this week...I just can't fo it...BUT GO GOLD

I want to uprade to Platinum like the others who have......not to gain anything, but to show tangible support to all I have put into writing these past few days.

However, I cannot do that at present, as I have a tax bill to dispose of first.
The $49.95 USD converts to appx. $67.69AUD

As soon as the taxbill is outta the way...bring it on!

I agree. I can't ever see justifying $100 a year to participate in a few extra features but I'm very happy with Gold. I'm glad for Mr. Sploof & the future of the site and that there are alot of die-hards who will join the Platinum level. I wouldn't want to see this site gone. Even though I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard Sploofer, I was really sad when the site was down for a bit. I agree that everyone can afford to "GO GOLD" and that it's well worth it.

GO GOLD everyone!
And if you can, GO PLATINUM!
We goldies will look up smiling at your bright stars

I am sure alot of people on this site have a difference of opinions on the subject of the platinum and gold accounts. And i understand some people cannot afford the 50 bucks for platinum. But when the site went down,I emailed sploofus(hope they got it)and told them i would send them money to help defray the cost of a new server.I love this site and would hate to see it dissolve due to financial problems. The people i have met here are wonderful,we have a whole melting pot of personalities.Justin truly cares about what happens to this site and tries to pacify its members in the best way possible. My true reason that i went platinum, was to help out sploofus and to continue to enjoy the friendship and fun of the other sploofusers.Martha

I'm sure that no one asked for it...here's my 2 cents (or $0.20 per day from Gold to Platinum).

It's not the quizzes...it's not the WRs....it's not the WPs...that keep me coming back. Hell...I am on this site half the time and don't play a single game.

It's the PEEPS!!! This is a great cyber community that allows us all to come here and play for a bit for a mere $0.27 per day...way less than my Diet Coke habit.

The things I have learned from quizzes...the funny jokes that have been told and the opportunity to meet some truly fine and wonderful people are what keeps me here.

Fairly sure I used all my 2 cents on that one.

I LOVE this place and have been around (almost) since the beginning. I think there were around 500 members when I joined. Then I went and ran my mouth all over the net and have brought LOADS of people here. I just wish I had the points for all the people I told about Sploofus instead of sending them a referral LOL!

The people are what make this site great, just like Kelly said. I'm happy to paypal my little share to keep this place around. I even went and whined on the only other message place I go to about how much Sploofus Withdrawal I was experiencing. I quickly found out I was not alone.

LONG LIVE SPLOOFUS!

I am waiting for things to stabilize a little money wise, then I will be going platinum really soon! Any little thing that I can do to help Justin keep this site going is well worth it to me!

I was just checking out the Upgrade to Platinum and saw this: "* Note: An existing Gold Membership will not affect your Platinum upgrade." Does this mean that even though I have already paid for Gold, I would still have to pay an additional $50 for 6 months of Platinum? No prorated payment?

I just checked my post to see if it showed up, and I'm listed as Blaney rather than Maurlin. Now I'm testing to see if it's been corrected.

I think Platinum amounts to about a quarter a day. I sure get a whole lot more enjoyment than a quarter a day's worth from this site! That's like one parking space a day. And that quarter would only last for an hour!

I have to say the unlimited WR's are awesome! I love them! I use too many exclamation points! Anyway, given the prospect of the site going down vs. paying more, I was more than ready to pay more. Love the games and the new friends I have met.

Darnit, getting all misty again (waves hands in front of eyes). Talk amongst yourselves....

I upgraded to platinum as a show of support to the Sploofmeister himself and all his hard work creating and maintaining this site. I would have donated money outright had the choice been given. The extra perks that come with the platinum membership are just that...extra imho.
Plus, I have to have somewhere to go for my daily regimen of mental masturbation..err, umm, trivia addiction. I have to do something with all the useless facts rattling around in my head.
If I couldn't afford it, I wouldn't have upgraded and nobody should feel any pressure to upgrade. I'm sure everyone here understands value vs. price, and a lot of time the same item looks different depending on who's doing the looking. Free, Gold, or Platinum, this site is a great community of folks. Just my $.02
Now, I'm off to find one of those handy-dandy avatars......

I thought I'd read somewhere that platinum would somehow mean unlimited word puzzles??? Anybody else see that or know anything?

I believe that unlimited means 'two a day'. I don't think that the basic people can play two of them a day.

Let's not beat around the bush.
Platinum is a fund-raising initiative, a chance to send a vote of confidence to Mr. Sploofus, who's splitting his butt cross-wise to keep this place not only alive but always improving.
Platinum is not an 'advantage' offer, and does not present itself as such (and if it does, just a little, it does so with sufficient auto-irony that there can be no mistaking its real purpose).
Criticizing it on the grounds of added services is therefore profoundly unfair, because it does not offer them.
Sploofus is neither canned tomato sauce nor charity. 29 cents per day vs. 27 cents per day have nothing to do with it.
This is a new paradigm. We the consumers are creating a business WITH the guy who created and runs it. There's nothing else like it, never has been, so comparing it to how much you spend or don't spend on coffee or electricity doesn't apply.
So far as I've seen, no one has asked for anything.
They've just offered us a chance to contribute if we feel like it and/or are able.
And if you've been paying attention, you'll know that a site where new advantages are added, gratis, on pretty much a weekly basis, will very soon offer perks for platinum members. That's my guess anyway.

jedley.......your thoughts and perspective are well appreciated.........nicely put!

Come and join the fun! Again, if you can GO PLATINUM, that's GREAT!

However, if not, at least GO GOLD.

And if you're already GOLD, please help spread the word and re-up when you're expiration date comes around.

Jedley's correct........the PLATINUM piece, not that it doesn't come with some nice perks - was truly a plea from the GOLD community to SPLOOFUS, as to how we could help with the cause, considering the situation and commitment Mr. Sploofus has made to this awesome site.

So....if you can help the cause, that's terrific. If you can't, that's okay too. But I really don't think that the PLATINUM opportunity should be an apples to apples comparison.

Hopefully.......it's still a fun place to be regardless of each individual's personal status (Basic, Gold, Platinum).

Jack
