You may have taken the quiz during the Community Quiz favorite band challenge....well it's that time again.

For the 8th consecutive appearance (16 years - since it's every other year) - Canton Tx Marching Band will be making an appearance to try to win state - we have 3 in a row under our belt - and while it's highly unlikely that a 4th will happen, we are going to try. The kids have such heart - and they have been instrumental in raising the bar and this last weekend - we saw 21 amazing bands perform - each of them were winners.

So, if we aren't the competition - keep these kids in your heart - my daughter is a senior this year - and a field captain - I've been so proud of how mature she has become because of these added responsibilities...if there are fellow Texans heading that way - give me a shout

Congrats Tex - I really wanted to be able to stay and watch the 5A's this year - but wasn't even going - and found out today due to some "friends" that I would be son will be a freshman next year so I hope within the next two I'll have the opportunity to stay and watch...we have done a few competitions together where we can see the 5a's - Mesquite Marching Invitational and Little Elm past two years -- I can't remember the name of the band this year that had almost 600 - I thought Coppell @ 300 was amazing...don't know how those guys move!

Good Luck!

Lorri, was it Allen?

It's the weirdest thing - the city has decided they will only have ONE high school -period. (And you know how fast they're growing.)

That high school looks like a shopping mall, it is so big and segmented. They have like 5 orchestras, so no telling how large their bands are.

On a personal, resentful note. We observed one of the Allen orchestras in rehearsal a few weeks back. They were pretty much playing straight through college music. The director could just sit on a stool and wave his arm. Every once in awhile he would stop them and say, "You need to have your private teacher work with you on measures 55-88." And then pick back up.

Sigh...........But I'm not jealous and bitter. I'm not. No, really. (Don't stand too close to me. Lightning danger)

heehee - I can't be upset with you anyway! Orch has nothing to do with band. And if you don't believe it, just ask them!

Thanks Pep - truthfully - the competition is tough - last competition 2 points separated 1 & 2 and 1 point separated 2 & 3 - the really great thing is seeing all the effort put forth by these amazing kids.

The bar has really been raised and what you see and what you hear is college level and beyond...of course, you still want "your team" to win - but even like at Birdville - some of the comments I heard by parents from other schools were really frustrating - there were a bunch of people hoping Canton wouldn't make it and that's sad to hear - and I'm proud of them - one our our tuba players ribs popped out - my daughters flute (which we JUST got back from the shop) would not play a concert F - and I had to hustle that over to Tyler yesterday to get fixed - plus a few more I know about and who knows how many I don't

If you have ever been around a top marching band, their practices are as grueling if not more so than the football players (a lot of our football players will tell you that and we have a tuba that does both and says for sure band is tougher) before high school football season is over - go by a ticket and just watch half-time - this close to the end of the season you know what they have been working on since August will be entertaining.

Now ends this message sponsored by Kaelin for the support of high school band programs...

I was watching a great marching show and a football game broke out.

Best of luck and reward for all their hard work, Canton!!!!
