It would be nice to have an actual chat room. I'd enjoy it and probably participate a bit. It wouldn't be nice to have one for an exclusive group of the paying members. I've never liked the concept of "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." Smacks of gated communites and the like.

We are NOT really all equal animals here - since Basic (free) membership does NOT include the ability to post messages here!

I understand that Justin needs to have some income, and there has to be certain perks that go with upgraded memberships. I am okay with all of this.

Just wanted to point out that a "Platinum Only" room would not be all that 'special' since this chat form is already Gold and Platinum only!

Even though we do not intend to go Platinum, a Platinum room would be good - but.... do you want it strictly for Platinum "Viewing and responding" or just for "responding" - either way wouldn't be bad - we do believe that "Platinum" people should have some more special perks since they are paying quite a bit more then Gold and surely a lot more then "freebies".

I agree that Platnium members should have "perks" since they are paying more for their memberships. But as far as the chat goes I think it should be open to both Gold and Platnium members alike....If they start making things seperate for those elite few who have changed to platnium I'm afraid that there will be problems.....

I like the chats the way they are. My decision to go platinum was not to have any perks. In fact, when I signed up, I didn't know there would be any at all so that was an added bonus. I went platinum to help sploofus keep this site up for all of us, whether we have stars upon thars or not.

I appreciate everyone who has stepped up to the plate and upgraded their accounts - both Gold and Platinum. One thing that I can not let Platinum do is tread on Gold. Perhaps the biggest benefit of Platinum is that, without the cash infusion it created, you may not be reading this right now. Sure, there are a few "perks" for Platinum members - but I think the real distinction is the tremendous amount of support that you have ALL shown. I can't create a rift between the Golds and the Plats. I hope that I have at least made a little bit of sense here.

But to be clear: Without those Platinum upgrades - we would be on one EXTREEEEEEEEEEMELY SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW server right now.

Tomorrow I will launch the *all new* Sploofus DIAMOND account.

It costs $1,000 for 6 months. No benefits, other than a very fancy icon.

Kidding, of course.

I think I like the idea of opening up the chat forum to everyone. It's wonderful to have Platinum and I chose it because I wanted to support a terrific site, but I was happy with Gold. It would also be a good thing to have many more Gold members. I think a real incentive to go Gold is to be able to talk to those people whose quizzes you have taken or who have taken your quizzes, or those you have contended with in Word Rounds. Rather than shutting ourselves away in a Platinum tower, it would probably be better to open the doors and speak with everyone.

Agreed with the special chat room for Platinums, and perhaps there should be a "live chat" (shout box style? sorry if my terminology is off; I'm in my 40s, you know...) for everyone, basic, gold and platinum alike?

I do think this chat forum should be kept to golds and platinums, though. This forum is archived and uses resources well beyond a shout-box style live chat. Having to pay to post here makes sense to me.

Sploof, I meant to say: I'm quite certain that the vast majority of folks who chose to go Platinum did it for exactly one reason: to support the site! The perks are a bonus, just that...I am enjoying the icons, though.

I have a live chatroom on my site if anyone wants to use it. We tend to only be 2 - 6 people between 9pm to midnight GMT
Even then Sploofus is sometimes discussed.

Of course, when she gets her private Platinum board, she'll realize it's lonely at the top, and life just isn't the same without us Gold members.
