BE THE TOURNAMENT!

Just be the ball, be the ball, be the ball. You're not being the ball Danny.

But now you can be the tournament! That's right. Platinum members with 25 or more published quizzes and Gold members with 75 or more can be a Sploofus Tournament. If you do not qualify under these rules, you can write more quizzes until you do. This will be an ongoing system.

Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle. That's cooler than the Frostbite Falls February Fishing Festival. What do we do?

1. Choose your favorite 15 quizzes -- NO Kerblunks or Trivia Squares.

They MUST be quizzes, and they must be yours. Kerblunks and Trivia Squares are not eligible.

2. Create a Support Ticket.

In the subject box put "Be the Tournament entry".
In the "Comments" box, cut & paste in the names of your 15 quizzes. PLEASE cut & paste, instead of typing it in.

3. Finally, write an introduction of 100 or fewer words about yourself and your quizzes.

4. Submit the ticket --- If the quizzes fit, you must submit!!

Hopefully, I got it correct this time (chagrin). Thank you and have fun.

The original post has been deleted to avoid confusion.

Concerns in it that caused the confusion have been addressed in this second attempt at getting it correct.

The first Personal Tournament will appear on January 2, 2009. Tournament were already in place up until that date.

They should appear in a regular rotation inside the regular, subject-based tournaments from there on out.

As a final point, since some author date way back to the early days, we need to mention all quizzes will need to fit the current SQAG (Sploofus Quiz Authoring Guide). FITB quizzes, for example, will not be accepted for tournaments.

OK; support ticket duly submitted; since I can normally screw up instructions without any problems I'll be interested to find out what I did wrong...:
My route --for what it is worth to others -- was to copy and paste titles into a word file or else I could not go back and forth efficiently. Then I went to help, and posted a support ticket in the 'other' category.
Sploffus; if this is not correct please let us know what would work better (for example is Word properly legible at your end?)

I opened up two windows, with my list in one and the support ticket in the other. Cut, paste, repeat X 15.

I also just realized that I may have set off the Sploofus cheater alarms, hope the Illuminati didn't think I was doing something wrong, since I had two logins going at once.

After working on the first couple of tournaments, I realized that it would help tremendously if your quiz list was in, at least, vague alphabetical order. That would especially help with those of you who have written billions and billions of quizzes! Thanks.

I cut and pasted into a Word document but had to re-type anyway, because it came out in blue and wouldn't print properly. I hope this works for you all.

BBear - if you're having trouble getting Word to paste straight text, use Edit > Paste Special > Unformatted text in Word. Otherwise you should be able to format the text anyway just by selecting it and using the normal Word commands/buttons to change colour, etc.

If you're getting a lot of junk with the copied text, go back and recopy making sure you select *just* the text you want, no line breaks etc, just the beginning of the first word to the end of the last word.

Hope that helps.

Simon..click on "Help" at the top of the page to find Support Tickets.
I am not sure which category you should choose, so I guess something bland like "Other" should do the job?

Cheers, Bev

Bev, Simon, I used "Other" on mine, and received the response from the Editor with no problems.

OK, just to be sure....

Y'all want the names of the actual quizzes, not the questions themselves.

The editors need the dates? I didn't read that in the instructions.

We have two ways to search - alpha by title and by date. Knowing the launch date just gives us an extra bit of info if you have a LOT of quizzes or there are a lot with similar keywords.

We pretty much don't even look at the questions themselves, unless you choose a quiz from before October 2005 (pre-editing), or the title makes it sound like a FITB.

I think, Linda, in the original post which was deleted, the Editors could see some kind of codes which they wanted us to use, but then found out they were the only ones who could see these codes.

In the post that was deleted, they asked that we put the dates by the quizzes in order to help them organize them. Somewhere I read it would also help them if they were arranged in an alphabetical order. The alphabetical order was posted after I had submitted mine; however, mine accidentally ended up that way pretty much, since most of mine were "Community Quizzes" and started out with my user name.

Hope this helps!

Here's what we really need:

The exact title of each of the 15 quizzes you are submitting.
The list arranged in alphabetical order - it can be just the first letters in order, but strict alpha would help.
A short paragraph which will be the introduction to the tournament grouping.

11 tournaments have been submitted and entered so far. They will appear as every 3rd tournament, starting on January 2nd.

Keep them coming, folks! One to each player who meets the previously stated requirements.

Guess this precludes enting my "Heidi" quizzes. I have never figured out how o past anything anyway. Could locate the quizzes, and give names and dates they were launched though but I would have to type those in. I thank any of te editors who at least considered letting me do it-Linda

Editors - I did not put the dates in but if you kick the support ticket back at me I would be happy to add them (if you need it). I'm not one of those who has written thousands, only 150 or so, so it may not be that hard. Let me know what you need.

Linda...we will do a tournament for you using quizzes from you 3 different names. Here is what you need to do.

In your message, break up the quizzes into three groups by the name that owns it. One group of Heidi quizzes, one group of Linda quizzes and one group of Caramel1 quizzes.

BUMP

We know that there are lots more of you who are eligible to be your own tournament.

13 have risen to the challenge - we could probably up that ten fold. Look over your quizzes, be thankful that you wrote 'em, and get your list in via a support ticket.

I made a mistake in my first submission and did 15 for Heidi and 15 for Linda. Was told the editors were not going to be THAT nice to me and I could have 15 total. LOL Actually I am grateful they are letting me submit any of these. Poor caramel1 hasn't written any at all. Had a difficult time choosing as both Heidi and Linda had written tons. I have resubmitted my entry but haven't heard back-know it is Thanksgiving and all though. If you are relatively new and totally confused by my post just know that I have quit twice and rejoined twice everything aways Platinum. I am pretty much a pain in the proverbial A-- to the editors but I appreciate the fact they have helped me in the past-a typist I'm not- and allowing me now to do this-Linda

Stoutyoungladd,
There is no deadline. You can write three more quizzes at your leisure. We want this to be fun, and we'd also like authors to continue to give us their best efforts. So, please don't feel any pressure. This is an ongoing program, and we will be delighted to accept your Be The Tournament submission whenever you wish to submit it.

Thank you.

Like WPs, can we take our own if we promise to tank? I like to watch other people take mine because I'm not allowed to, and I taking our own would be kinda neat. If not, no biggie. Just a thought.

Linda - Only one tournament to a customer at this point. If they are well received, who knows, we might go for another try, but right now it is a one shot deal.

Bbear - There is no way you can take your own quizzes. If you click onto any quiz you have written you get that big red X and a comment to that effect. Therefore, you cannot participate in your own tournament. I'm sure you have seen quizzes that you have authored in existing tournaments. If you click on them, you'll be told that you cannot take those quizzes.

:Posting here because believe most folks often skip Hotwire. In looking over the tournaments for January notice only 2 player ones. There are, however, many "temporary" tournaments scheduled. Are the subjects for those already chosen? If not, why not insert more player tournaments. I'm with Maurlin in believing that the wait time is a definite damper to the success of this thing-Linda

When editors decided to try this "Be the Tournament" thing, we decided to only offer one player Tournament per week, which means every third Tourney. That way there will always be two regular Tourneys and one player Tourney live at any given time.

What if people don't like playing them? It would be awful to want to participate in a tournament and find that all three available are single authors, one whose quizzes you've already played all of, and one whose quizzes you don't care for! We just wanted to err on the side of caution when introducing a new gaming idea. If they are phenomenally popular, we could always add more in between, but the people who turned theirs in earlier will happen later, and how will that be fair?

For what its worth I think the editors are right to go slow.
There are some people who write a lot of quizzes that I am less than enthusiastic about and i'm absolutely sure the reverse applies too!
It would be tedious to find that all the tournaments involved people whose quizzes I did not want to take.

As a separate issue are the people making their list of quiizzes using as the criterion that the quizzes were highly graded, or unpopular as in rarely taken? Or is there some other factor to consider?

Since I most always wrote on movies and TV believe all of my quizzes might be considered on the "Easy" side even though I threw in a couple of my EAs. My goal was never to trick anyone or make a question just a lucky guess by including a date or a number just aimed at making them interesting and fun. But if you are not a movie or were not a TV viewer in the era I wrote about guess you would deem them more difficult. In general I tried to chose those that folks liked and commented favorably about-Linda

Barry - I'll give you a global picture since I have seen all of the lists of Be The Tournament entries. Many players have explained how they picked their quizzes, and I would say the answer to your question is a general "yes". Everything you can imagine.

Some stated that they picked their most taken, one actually said that he picked his least taken quizzes so that they would get another airing. Some picked around a theme - like all famous people. Some picked what they considered to be their best. Most have accomplished a wide degree of diversity. You will not find, for example, 15 quizzes of a series in anyone's list. Nor will you find 15 questions on the same topic - no one so far has submitted 15 sports questions, or 15 country music questions.

I think the Be The Tournament lists are real winners.

Bumping this posting way up to remind everyone that the Player Tournaments start the end of this week! We've had 31 entries submitted, and they sure run the gamut of topics. But I could start pointing fingers here. There are loads more of you who are eligible to submit Tournament entries. Let's hear from all of you. If you are a paying member, you almost surely fill the rest of the characteristics.

Just send your entries, alphabetized, in as a support ticket., and we'll take it from there. We'd love to get you all involved!
