Here is another article about the family in Michigan that is having money problems after their Extreme Home Makeover.

It clarifes how their mortgage changed from fixed to adjustable.

Thanks for posting the update. I also read the talk-back posts to the article. I just don't see how anyone can criticize this family for their own problems. They are both deaf and have a son who is blind and autistic. Just any ONE of those problems would be overwhelming. It's not as though Extreme Makeover built them a 4,000-square-foot mansion - they adapted their modest home of less than 1,000 sf to fit the needs of their disabilities.

I hope enough people help them out to ease their financial woes. I know, some of you are going to say why should they be helped.... My answer is, if you have your sight, hearing, reasonably good health, the ability to work or enough savings to live comfortably, you are truly blessed and why not help others? But that's just me.

I am glad this family got the help they needed. I read the comments on some of the blogs and such on the stories and it just made me sick. I know everyone has their own troubles that they are trying to deal with but I am a firm believer in helping others when you can. If you find yourself in a situation where you can help someone do it and eventually it will be returned to you. I try to make it a habit of helping when I can. Even if it's something as simple as giving a kid who is in line in front of you at the store some change to help cover the taxes on their purchase. Because it does come back to you....might be when you WANT it but it will come back when you NEED it.

Like last night, I went to Home Depot to buy a washing machine. I was going to rent the truck they have at the store to get the washer home. After a hour of standing there while they tried to figure out why the computer was saying the truck wasn't available and it was sitting on the parking lot and there were no open tickets on the rental of it and being told sorry we can't rent the truck out because it won't let us. I was left standing there thinking how in the world am I going to get this thing home now. We were in desperate need of it since our other washer broke a week ago and laundry was piled up everywhere. Then the angel struck.....her name was Debbie and she is a regular customer at where I work. She looked at me and said," I get off at 7pm, can you meet me at your work and I'll bring it home for you." I was floored, she was going WAY above and beyond the call of duty by offering to take it to my house. She brought it to my house last night, we unloaded it and when I tried to pay her for delivering it for us she waved me off and smiled and winked and just said "Merry Christmas" as she got back in her truck and left. So all I have to say it Pay it something nice for someone and one day when you need it the most it will be returned to you.

I can never make out if we just have the BEST,
kindest and most ethical people on Sploofus,
OR if there are more of you out there somewhere.

The States seems to be turning into a country full
of greedy, dishonest people who are determined
to be the "have-it-alls" and then others who are falling
by the wayside and feeding on each other via these
nasty Blogs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sub-Prime Mortgages
start as a GOOD IDEA to help the less-fortunate own their
own homes....and then the Mortgage Lenders ran amok
turning their Fixed Rate mortgages into Variable rates,
then increasing the rates every 6 months, until the
Owners were forced to walk away....

For the EARTH it's - become Ecologically friendly or we won't survive
For the US it's - become a caring, ethical society or you won't survive
My heart bleeds for all the good caring people there, who are getting lost.

You know, Rowlanda, I think there are a lot more of the good, caring people, like Smeans and the lady who delivered her washing machine. It's just that they don't make good news stories so we never hear about them. Unfortunately.

Pat, I agree. If it bleeds, it leads. If it talks about happiness and kindness, it doesn't even make the back page. It's all about money and what sells - which is our fault too, because we don't buy happy stories. They don't fire us up. Note which threads here get read the most and have the most responses. The sweet ones get maybe 5 responses and disappear off the front page.
