Quite a few of the recent puzzles have been composed by people in the monthly WP races; its very selfless of slicko to write puzzles because that way he drops back behind the players who finish in the top ten. -- Same goes for me too of course

Just a thought; if the platinum puzzlers got a point (or two) bonus for everyone who took the puzzle that might keep them whole in the race; would it encourage anyone else to write puzzles? (which would have to be a good thing surely) Probably not but it couldn't hurt!

Are the points really that important? I just play for fun.......I will NEVER finish first in anything on this site.....and that is fine. I learn something every day. AND too, I have never gotten squat for my "points". No pony, no thigh master, not even bragging rights. Just my humble thoughts.........carry on.

You didn't get the pony and bridle and saddle? If I were you, I would be checking with some people. I got mine right away.

I a allowed to whine, Barry, because I am very old and not too smart as evidenced by my posts and number of points. Whining just doesn't look good on you-way beneath your opinion of yourself-no offense-Linda :I

Pints! We don't need no stinkin pints!

But you should know the Ginzu knives rusted the first time I washed them. Next time I'm getting the bowling bag instead.

I like the idea of one point for each WP taker of the writer's WP. It makes up for the loss of 295 to 800 points that could possibly have been made by taking someone else's WP when the author has to tank on the quiz and purposly get a very low score by using lots of letters.

Who cares about points? I certainly do. It determines the top 3 in any of the Leaderboard categories each month. It leads to a feeling of accomplishment to be at or near the top of any given quiz or WP. I play bridge and other games and enjoy the competition. I enjoy it on the Sploofus site. For those of you who say the points are not important, then you should have nary a care if those of us who do prefer a ranking system and the points that go with it.

I don't believe that making a valid suggestion about an approach to fairly awarding points is even slightly whining. I see it as contructive and helpful to the editors who are managing the PlatiPuzzles.

My last post was unkind which I try not to be. Barry, I apologize. However, either he or some other person who writes puzzles have brought up this topic time and again. I have sad before that I take most of the puzzles, sometimes bail it they turn into a miniseries or feel there is not some kind of key and that the purpose of the writer is simply to trick. My policy has been to never comment on any puzzle on Salty Dog-one exception Barry's most recent- as quiz writers suffer if that is done. Realize there is a slight difference that puzzles when the day is through are not accessible as quizzes still are-not easily these days though. I appreciate anyone who writes anything!! Linda

Barry's method of extra points had not, to my knowledge, been suggested before his post in this specific chat.

I like the idea of the extra points, but writing the puzzles is so much fun it doesn't bother me to finish 212th on a puzzle. Thanks for the compliment Barry, but I think all the folks on this site are just about the least selfish people I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

You may well be correct and it was just something similar. Since the search by post topic is still among the broken features I don't know nor does anyone else. In the end though believe if people expect anything more than the fun and sense of accomplishment in a writing job well done, they are about to be disappointed.- Linda

Redistribute the pints. Robin Hood the pints.

Actually, you may have my pints. I don't even like lager.

Like I said when we all went to 2.0. "LET'S ALL GO BACK TO ZERO !!". Some gossip I overheard was points came easy before '07. I really don't care. If it was money, I doubt if we'd be chatting.
