HOW COLD IS IT?

It's so cold in Chi town that my dog peed 4" from the door and walked right back in. Gotta love a -6 morning with 30 MPH winds...

Remind me again why I live here...

Just wish those nice Canadian folks would keep their cold fronts in Canada!!

Started out this morning at 9 below zero, with a wind chill of -21 F. Darned cold! My son's family is gone so I had to get out in the ice and snow and cold to take care of my granddaughter's dogs. Good thing I love that girl a lot!

PS - if you go to that link about the Pup-Head, scroll clear to the bottom, through all the postings, and you'll find a place to click to go to a form to fill out for a $5 coupon for Iams dog food. It will be mailed to you.

$5 is $5 these days. Wait for a sale on Iams and combine that with the coupon and you've earned yourself some savings.

When we left the house it was -18 with a -30 something windchill. I considered staying home...not for me, just so the child wouldn't have to go out in the flesh-freezing temps, but alas, here I sit at work. It should warm up to a teener or maybe even single digit below windchill by noon. Though 2x4 was kind enough to point out that would last an hour tops before it started dropping again...can you sell husbands on eBay?!?

It's overcast, 8 degrees F. and a stiff south wind in freezing Nebraska. I think it's to get up to the upper 20s today. Wish the sun would show up. That would help.

I'm supposed to go to a memorial service in my hometown tomorrow, but I'll stay home. It's 150 miles across pretty desolate country with little traffic. It's to be cold and a good chance of snow. I feel badly about not going but I'm not a good traveler on a good day, and tomorrow does not sound like a good day to me.

Right now it's about -20* C outside and as usual my dogs are out there
rolling in the snow and running their noses throught it....they only reason
they come back in, is because I refuse to stay out there with them!!!!
Even my 17 year old Spaniel gets mad if I think she's asleep and let the
other dog out by herself.
When I lived near the Prairies for a time, I made a decision never to walk dogs
if it was below -30*C The inside of my nose would freeze up full of tiny
snowballs - and my eyes would stream with the cold....and then the moisture
would freeze so I couldn't see properly.
And yes, SALTZYPAT, if it was so cold where you were - wouldn't you all stand
in a line and blow the cold air into the States, just as we Canadians do in the
Winter months???? We are joined by the people who live in Minnesota!!!!

The really cool thing was the bartender/cook boiled an entire stock pot of water, then called the kids and us outside and threw it into the air..POOF...INSTANT SNOW. It was SO COOL!! I still remember the look on Alex & Tori's face (cause I had the same look)...WOW.

WINTER BLONDE

As a trucker stops for a red light, a blonde catches up. She jumps out of her car, runs up to his truck, and knocks on the door.

The trucker lowers the window, and she says "Hi, my name is Heather and you are losing some of your load."

The trucker ignores her and proceeds down the street.

When the truck stops for another red light, the girl catches up again. She jumps out of her car, runs up and knocks on the door.

Again, the trucker lowers the window. As if they've never spoken, the blonde says brightly, "Hi my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

Shaking his head, the trucker ignores her again and continues down the street.

At the third red light, the same thing happens again.

All out of breath, the blonde gets out of her car, runs up, knocks on the truck door. The trucker rolls down the window. Again she says "Hi, my name is Heather, and you are losing some of your load!"

When the light turns green the trucker revs up and races to the next light.

When he stops this time, he hurriedly gets out of the truck, and runs back to the blonde.

He knocks on her window, and after she lowers it, he says...

"Hi, my name is Mark, it's winter in Alaska, and I'm driving the SALT TRUCK!"

Yeah, well ... in the Pacific Northwest, we've had 14 inches of snow in the past week. We normally don't get snow at all and our one snow plow is pretty overtaxed just now. The snow plow never visits the secondary streets. Ever. And salt? No salt. Salt is apparently a biohazard.

So, it's 33 degrees and the 14 inches of snow has started to turn to big piles of snow and slush. Locals who have never driven in snow think it's ok to do so now.

It isn't.

Our city streets look like a pinball machine with cars bouncing around hitting each other. I took the week off so I could sit home and watch it all on the news.

But, you should see the snow fort in my front yard! It's a beauty! Beauty, Eh? LOL

"Snow"
Author Unknown

December 8th, 6 PM: It's started to snow. The first of the season and the
wife and I took our cocktails and sat by the window watching the
soft flakes drift down and over the area. It was BEAUTIFUL!

December 9th: We awoke to a big, beautiful blanket of crystal white snow
covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Every tree and
shrub covered with beautiful white mantle. I shoveled snow for the
first time in years and loved it. I did both our driveway and our
sidewalk. Later the snowplow came along and covered up our
sidewalk with compacted snow from the street so I shoveled it
again.

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Oh well, I'm sure we
will get some more before the lovely winter is through.

December 14: It snowed 8 inches last night and the temperature dropped to
20 degrees below zero. Shoveled the driveway and the sidewalk
again and the snowplow came by and did its trick again.

December 15: Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer so I can drive in the
snow. Bought snow tires for the wife's car.

December 16: Fell on my a** on the ice in the driveway. All that was
hurt was my feelings.

December 17: Still cold (below zero in the AM) and icy roads make for
very tough driving.

December 20: Had another 14 inches of the white s*** last night. More
shoveling in store for me today. That goddamn snowplow came by
twice.

December 22: We are assured of a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the
white s*** fell today, and with this freezing weather it won't
melt till August. Got all dressed up to go out and shovel (boots,
jump suit, heavy jacket, scarf, earmuffs, gloves, etc.) and then I
got the urge to pee!!

December 23: I was going to go ice fishing today but my worms froze and
I didn't want the fish to break their teeth on my bait.

December 24: If I ever catch the son-of-a-b**ch that drives that
snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by the nose. I think he
hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and
then he comes down the street 100 mph and throws snow all over
what used to be my lawn.

December 25: Merry Xmas! They predict 20 more inches of the ***********
white stuff tonight. Do they know how many shovels of snow 28
inches is? To Hell with Santa. He doesn't have to shovel that
white s*** The snowplow driver came by asking for a donation.
I hit him over the head with the snow shovel.

December 26: We got 28 inches and then some. I must be going snow-blind
or have a severe case of cabin fever because the wife is
beginning to look good to me.

December 27: The toilet froze. If you go outside, don't eat the brown
snow.

December 28: I set fire to the house. Now that white s*** won't cling
to the roof!!!
