...and ne'er brought tae mind...

Please remember that when you sing in the year it's "For auld lang syne". There's not a mention of 'for the sake of', so please don't sing it.
And: "In Scotland... t is common practice that everyone joins hands with the person next to them to form a great circle around the dance floor. At the beginning of the last verse, everyone crosses their arms across their breast, so that the right hand reaches out to the neighbour on the left and vice versa. During the last chorus, people might start jumping up and down. When the tune ends, everyone rushes to the middle, while still holding hands. When the circle is re-established, everyone turns under the arms to end up facing outwards with hands still joined. This is commonly misconducted outside of Scotland and hands are often crossed from the beginning of the song; this practice is incorrect." (Wikipedia - where else?! But it's pretty accurate.)

So gies a han my trusty friend, have a han o' mine and have yersel a braw Hogmanay, one an' a' - and to paraphrase a certain erstwhile Rat-pack member with whom I share a name, mind this: yer no' pished at Hogmanay if ye can lay doon on the flair wi'oot haudin' fast.

Is it true that the part where you reverse yourselves is called an Auld Lang Cosecant?

No, I think it's called The Bit the Yanks Mess Up.

Only they don't say Mess.

That was fascinating - I had no idea there were so many verses! Now, I just have to figure out how my guests can read the verses while holding hands and then figure out the 'choreography' after drinking all evening!
