The source for this is Fox News so proceed as you see fit. Seems the Illinois Governor is going to hold a press conference this afternoon. The rumor is that he will name a senator replacement. Fox conducted and interview with the leading Republican and he said the the man rumored to be the one appointed is an "honorable man". Question is can any appointment made by Blago be untainted and will the Democratic Senate seat him? Love the intrigue-really sad to get old and have to live your life vicariously LOL Linda

Certainly any nominee he names will be suspect from the start.

The man's name is Roland Burris. In my thinking if he is indeed an honorable man would refuse the appointment-guessing that is not how politics works though Linda The shoes just keep dropping. Bet a whole lot of folks wishing this governor would simply disappear.....

I've been screaming impeachment for months, now I've changed my mind. Now I'm screaming, tar and feathers and run him out of the state on a rail.

This is such a tangled web. Since the governor has not been impeached he is within his rights to fill the vacant US Senate seat. The US Senate it seems can refuse to seat someone for only 2 reasons. One is that the person is not qualified. This man has basically spent his life in Illinois politics so no go there. The other option is that corruption was involved in the process of appointment/election. The last time this reason was used was in the early 1900s and interestingly the man who was not seated was from Illinois.

Some are saying this is a defensive move by Blago. Burris contributed to Blago's campaign but as yet no evidence that he personally lined Blago's pockets. Am learning that campaign contributions within parties is the expectation not the exception. One of the major behind the scenes criticisms of Caroline Kennedy is that despite her wealth she did not contribute to NY Democrats. Blago can say at least in the senator thing you accuse me of "pay to play" and I appointed someone who did not. His second defense by this appointment is that if the US Senate accepts his appointment they legitimize his claim of no wrong doing. Politics is UGLY no matter how you look at it. Ambassadorships will be filled to pay back those owed, lobbyists will continue to ensure that the government wastes, and on and on. This is not new but am not liking my view of reality. Might be some other way to negate the appointment-thing Attorney General of Illinois not giving certification-what a mess-Linda

It is the Secretary of State in Illinois who can stop it by not giving certification. He has already said that is the action he will take-not certify that is. People pondering as to why Blago is doing this. Most say that if he is going down he is going to take as many as he can with him and embarass the state as much as he possibly can! Linda

Gesus-now the race card has been played. The member of the House who represents Il. and is a Black mn just said surely he US Senate would think again before not seating this man as he would be caring on the tradition of that seat and would be the only African-American in the US Senate-said to be the most exclusive "CLUB" anywhere. It would be nice if the new President could sort this out butg no word from his camp. Seems he supported Burgiss against Blago in the race for governor-SIGH..Linda

Rowland Burris is a good man and is worthy of the challenge.
