I've had a real nice lucky streak at the beginning of January with the word puzzles--a bonus score of 1000 for each of the first three. However, my ranking (even after I completed the current Tom Swift puzzle) is 21st place. Is there something I'm missing? I have a feeling that my first quiz of 2009 score may have ended up in 2008 (because of the time I took it). Is that right?

If you took the December 31st Wordpuzzle available at 8:00 p.m. EST before Midnight, it would show up on the December Leaderboard and points.

If you took it after Midnight, it would show up on the January Leaderboard and points. I always try to remember to save the 8:00 p.m. Wordpuzzle on the last day of the month to hold over until after Midnight on the 1st day of the month to give me the extra point start for the new month.

I am also farther down on the Leaderboard than I would like, but all of the people who manage to get in and stay in the top 10 are awarded quite a few extra points for being there, and that is where I have always lost out in the past.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. That does explain it.

For what it's worth, I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense. You wouldn't think that your game score and bonus score could be split into separate months. But, it's pretty trivial relative to the other oddities that appear across the site.

Makes perfect sense to me. You are awarded the points at different times. You get your first chunk of points when you finish the puzzle, and the bonus points when the puzzle ends. That could well be on two different days, and therefore in two different months.

But, seems to me, it all averages out. Those who tend to solve the puzzle before midnight Sploofus time, will also solve the one at the end of the month before midnight, and vice versa.

And, the bottom line - does it really matter?

Does it matter?

(I dont have larger caps to put it in a third time)

You're question the whole rationale of existence of some of the players like me and asking does it matter? Do you want to step outside and say that again?

Well no probably it doesn't martter but we think it does.....

Ahem:::::::tepping outside::::::::::::

As one who constantly judges how she did by comparing outcomes with the likes of Smoke, Slicko, Tallactor, and yourself -
Does it matter?

Oh man! It worked. Well, the stepping outside didn't work, but I was impressed anyway! LOL
