So, what's the max you can earn on a TQotD, and
how fast do you have to answer it to get those points?

After three questions the top score is 4,800 and change.

I asked this question a while back and received the (correct) answer from ken, i think.
The bonus is 2000/number of seconds taken.

I know I'm pretty fast when I'm on the right computer; I've managed 2000 as a bonus and 1990 or so once or twice.

You get 1000 points per correct answer, plus a bonus based on the amount of time you were recorded as taking. That bonus is equal to 2000 divided by the number of seconds.

it says level bonus

say if i answered my question 10 seconds in and right

i get those bonus points for level 13

so do the 100 plus level people

say anser it right in 10 seconds (proabaly a slow time for them but to get my point across)

would there bonus points be the same as mine

i assume not they would be higher am i correct

The whole thing here with bonus points is a nonsense. It awards people with the best computer, who live in the right area for their ADSL (Broadband), so can achieve fast speeds. It is the same with Showdowns, the best computer always wins the easy questions. Where I live in Spain, I have the Maximum Speed, 3 Megs, with a fairly up to date computer, but my Broadband is crap. I know that I will get at least five seconds added to my time, because of this. I have asked several times if the playing field can be leveled a bit. but to no avail. Either the Editors are not informing Justin of this unfairness, or it is Justin's fault that this totally unfair system is allowed to continue.

Oh dear, this is depressing. I don't think I've ever gotten bonus points above 380 or so. Didn't know it was possible. I'll have to pay attention to that number more.

Yeah, Alice, I was thinking the same thing. I'm pretty slow answering. I always want to make sure I read the question carefully, as I've been burned when trying to go too fast. I'd rather be accurate than fast. I love seeing the blue ribbon telling me I've answered correctly. Anyway, there have been times I've managed to answer in about 4 seconds and was thrilled to get 500 bonus points!

Thanks for the responses. I realized last spring that
I was missing way too many questions, and decided
it was better to be right and slow than fast and wrong.
I now take as much time as I need.

Showdowns are a slightly different matter, but I still
try not to just guess. You never know what your
opponent is going to do. I can sympathize with Barnie
re: computer speed, but having lost a Showdown to
him, I know success isn't guaranteed. Just hit me with
a geography question.

How is there anyway to resolve the problem with difference in computers? Seriously, how? Instead of whining, offer a solution.

Linda, Justin, is the man, that has the magical ability to solve all your woes and travails in life, but figures you are a big girl and should suck it up.

I am wondering the same thing as Maniact44 in his post above.

Sploofernatural, your posting makes it sound like the available points are the same regardless of what level we are on. Is that correct?

I have certainly "sucked it up" in your case, Pennwoman!!!!

Yeah, I know, you have.
But seriously, if the worst thing in your life, are glitches to a fun quiz site, your life is pretty good!

To my knowledge, your statement is absolutely correct. My third-hand understanding is that in the original design of the system, there were supposed to be differences, and higher levels would get "harder" questions. At some point this was scrapped in favor of the current system of all players having the same TQOTD playing field.

I used to do my TQOTD's via AOL but have found that using Internet Explorer is much more reliable in terms of the time I am charged.

Still, it would seem more fair if one's computer/connection less of an issue. I don't see how it's even possible to answer in an AVERAGE of less than 3.6 seconds, which is the case with this month's leader after four days.

Why not make the reward for quick response secondary to, say, a reward based on the percentage who have missed that question? Sample suggestion: bonus points = 5 x (percentage who missed it). So if you get one right that 50% have missed,
you would get 1,250; if only 2% have missed, you would get 1,010. And make the time bonus less significant, like
300 / (no. of seconds).

Just my $0.02.

thanks sploofnatural

for clearing that up

oh and avrdalle

thats a brilliant idea

dont get me wrong i am fine with the current system i just had questions and yeah i know how it is to have slow computer less then year ago was using windows 98 thru telephone connection

now though on vista and high speed (amazing difference) so your comp defiently can help or hender you

but i was fine with it when i had slow comp though

however your idea is brilliant it is fair and i cant see no negatives to it

(i know editors arent going to do it just cause u suggested it and it would be hard work for them to do all that comp stuff )

but now negatives to players at least i can think of

a real great idea

so if you know more rare obecure fact you get awarded and i f you know something everone knows not so much

anywyas its a good idea better then not any

My original suggestion was that any Showdown question answered in less than 10 seconds be declared drawn, and only if longer time taken would there be a winner. The editor said it seemed a good idea, then it was shelfed, along with other suggestions

Maybe the WR/WM point system should be changed as well. Award 100 points for each correct answer. That would yield 1000 points if a Sploofuser got 100 percent. So 2000 points per hour for taking the time to the questions right. The top ten spots would get from 100 to 1000 extra points.

Mon, 5th Jan '09 7:26 PM we are again....multitudes of the NCOs complaining about the direction the ship is going, but ALAS...NO CAPTAIN!!

I too don't understand the time thing on showdowns. It should be eliminated. If you both get it right, DRAW. Not that friggin tough to level that playing field. Maybe THEN, I wouldn't be afraid to use my 5 million tokens.

The bonus thing on the QOTD is BS. Who cares, I've never been in the top 10, never will, unless there are 10 Sploofus members, 9 of whom are under the age of 10 or completely wasted.

There are TONS of fabulous ideas, and as long as Justin is MIA, they will remain just that, ideas. Maybe if Zimbabwe gets internet service, we'll hear from him, until then, keep rowing in the same direction guys.

Getting a little po'd can you tell?

I like the idea of basing the TQOTD bonus points on the "difficulty", which would be very similar to how the "difficulty points" are awarded when we take quizzes.

Unfortunately I don't think the editors can implement any changes that require reprogramming. Just Justin, whose priority should probably be fixing what's still broken around here!
