IT'S LONELY HERE!

Hey David - looks like it's just you and me, Sweetheart! We'll have to put our great minds together and write the next best screenplay of our time!

What a team we'll make! Hey, why do you think no one else wants to join this group? Do we offend? Smell bad? Tell tasteless jokes? Laugh at inappropriate times? Or, horror of horrors, are we boring?

Okay, we've got Jeremy now so we are well on our way to becoming a legit (I only abbreviated that because I don't know how to spell it - not trying to be cool - which I am, of course) club. Also, I am pretty sure Jeremy is only here for the lovely prizes, and not just because he said so either. But 3 does not a club make. So we must put our heads together - reach out to our cool Sploofus friends - and write a screenplay, people! These things don't write themselves, you know!

I'm not really a writer, Jeremy - I'm more of an idea person. Honestly, I just felt sorry for David all alone in this great big convention hall with no other screenwriters so I joined the group. You joined for the prizes. So that makes David the one who must produce something awe inspiring (no pressure, David) to make us proud!

Ah true, initially I joined for the prizes. I really am interested in writing something for the screen though someday....as luck would have it, I just don't have the time. What kind of screenplay is David working on anyways?? Anything good? I could share the one idea I have sitting on my computer, but really I've shared it with others and have gotten a few laughs, it was a story I wrote down after a dream. They laugh because they can't see the potential it had while I was dreaming it!! (or maybe it just sucks, really you'd probably have to be into that kind of horror sci-fi mix to like it). So it makes me wonder, what is David working on??? Eh?

Mine is a fictional documentary that follows a group of people as they prepare and then go to their college reunion. It is a comedy with meaningful interludes, what's yours Jeremy

Mine is about a dad and three boys who go camping near a popular camping spot in the wilderness. Maybe over spring break or something so there is a fair number of "outsiders" in the town. Only this spring break, (like in all modern horror tales) the bodies are piling up....I'll skip alot of the details.

Eventually the sheriff begins to suspect the dad and the three boys, and he gets eaten! (Hey, the cop always dies in horror!! lol) Turns out, which would be something of a plot twist in the way the story would be written, the dad and two of the boys are only half-human/half-alien and they eat people.

The third young boy is completely human, he was adopted by the family and he has no clue about it, except for noticing some curious behaviors. So the story would be written from his point of view, and would be a complete surprise. Especially the part where he finds out what his family really is and that that wasn't cows meat his father was serving him! Okay, it's a little gross, I know. These aliens, kind of like vampires, can turn others into alien/human hybrids so at the end of the story the family turns on the little boy and......turn him into what they are. Hey, after he knew the secret it was either that or eat the poor lad, sounds like a loving decision to me!

Of course the alien/human hybrid thing sounds a little kooky, but most horror stories are caught up in the "supernatural", with the alien variation being one of the few "naturalstic" versions of the same tale. I thought it worked okay in John Carpenter's The Thing, and of course the Alien trilogy. Not so well in Phantasm in my opinion......The Thing is one of my favorites, as it relies mostly on suspense to get it's point across....and I would hope to imitate that factor of it. Okay, that's it!

BTW, it's kind of funny, the movie Phantasm was also written after the author woke up from a dream.....just found that out thought it was interesting.

Sounds interesting, Jeremy. I like a lot of the sci-fi horror stuff. I agree with you about "The Thing". I thought that movie was exceptionally creepy without being gross - very suspenseful. Anyway - sounds like you have a great beginning - now if only you had the time to write the thing - I'd read it! Maybe you and David can bounce ideas off each other. I'll have to dream up a good idea - as wonderful as Brad and Johnny fighting over me is to me - I just don't think anyone else would care.

19 years old eh? Nice job!! I think Al's screenplay will have his characters eating peppermint patties, and will probably be set in York Pennsylvania. Kind of like how cigarette companies pay to have their cigarettes placed in movies, I think Al is secretly on the take from the peppermint patty company....

I think we should do like a madlibs script. David may not know what that is. Someone can write a scene and leave
blanks for the occasional verb, noun, adjective, etc. Then you ask someone to provide those to fill in the blanks without knowing any of the plotline. Then you get either a nonsensical piece of crap or a work of genius. Hey, nobody is going to pay to see it but it might be fun! I'll be working on one!

Ummm, I guess I am one of the "mystery girls"....ta-dah! Thanks for the invite, Knerd! I don't know how much I will be able to lend to the group since I had my hand slapped at work for being on here too much...but it's okay for other people to play Solitaire for ump-teen hours a day...oh, the injustice of life! Where is Bono and Amnesty International to plead on my behalf???

Anyways, I am a little bit reluctant to share my ideas for screenplays lest you think I am a complete lunatic...but since you asked...

I have this story about a shy, virginal woman (okay, not me, if you're wondering) who gets mixed up with a bad boy, but unfortunately doesn't realize it before it's too late. It may sound typical a la "The Burning Bed" or "Sleeping with the Enemy", but the thing is, the story is seen through the eyes of her pets, who witness the subsequent abuse, get abused themselves, etc. until one day they all band together and kill the bastard.

Not one for the kiddies...although there would be a theme of loyalty, as well as cooperation since enemies like dogs and cats have to come together with a common goal to accomplish "good"...you know, kind of like the Democrats and Repubicans.... HA HA HA....a true bi-partisan effort if there ever was one...dogs and cats eating a domestic abuser..my God, I am going to start writing my Oscar acceptance speech now!

And yes, I will go back to my rubber room now and take my Lithium. It's time for basket-weaving class anyways.

Hi Rachael, welcome and thanks for joining! I think your story has alot of potential, kind of reminds me of something stephen king would write. I didn't know you had an interest in writing at all! Have you written much? Are you working on this one or have anything readable yet? I'd love to look it over... I know, I sound like a four year old kid asking questions.... Wow, you joined and she didn't have to bribe you? lol. I'm sorry, the group isn't much yet....this will be fun. Here's to the success of your story!

I have this other idea, kind of based on my personal experience in having a crush on our parish priest...he is from London and I am such a sucker for an English accent...David, are you listening??

Anyways, the story is about a church secretary or maybe a parochial teacher, separated from her well-meaning-but-crude husband (the John Goodman/Tom Arnold type) because they are conflicted about having children or not. The new priest and her strike up a friendship and it's obvious that he is developing feelings for her. She asks the priest to counsel she and her husband, but the priest dislikes him so much that he deliberately tries to sabotage the relationship in various ways, like not giving her flowers the husband has delivered to the church, that sort of thing...

The priest and the secretary accompany a group of kids on a trip and that's when things come to a head, big dramatic climax (ahem) here; the priest confesses his love, she is confused, this is all wrong-but-oh-so-right....

Forward to 30 years down the road....the priest is in a cemetery with a grown woman...he has just performed the funeral rites for the secretary and the woman says how much he meant to her mom, how he was always given credit for saving her parents' marriage...but as they walk away together, it's obvious from their similar style of walking that she is the priest's daughter...

Okay, now here is the thing: I told my BF about this idea and he said it is the same thing as "The Thorn Birds". I have never seen that; I know Richard Chamberlain was in it but is this the same story? I will be really bummed if it is...and I guess I will just have to turn "The Priest and the Secretary" into a porno...David, are you listening??!!

Hello ~ David ~ Karen~ Jeremy~ Al ~ Rachael & Godwit

Karen ~ Thanks for the invite! and to answer a few of your inquiries from above
(Way above...nope , not yet ...keep going... a few more posts up..., Yeah, STOP! that's the one i'm referring to...)

((note number 77~for today~ to self ~ See, Nah-Nah-Nah nana!
,It was so post number 3 you fool, next time listen to us and stop
11 guessing ourselves))l

Back on topic...I can't answer all of you questions, and a couple of them inspired a few of my own, so...let's see~
As to the question of members joining, from my wanderings around the sploofus site, and being a member of a couple of other Groups, it definitely shouldn't be an issue to waste your time contemplating, as the groups themselves, just do not appear to be popular destinations on the site. In form, there isn't much to draw you to them, as they're very limited. The groups are more like mini - chat forums. As an active participant on the Salty Dog threads, you know how small the participating numbers are , compared to what they could be, given the number of members. So, ignore the numbers and don't pet the small stuff....or something like that.

Next...after all of that drivel above, who COULD you offend , even if ya wanted to?

Smelling bad... There will always be times when you smell bad. Your kitty just has to play in his indoor sandbox while you are in the same general area, your sister just dropped your nephew in your lap and disappeared and the lil' tyke is about 3 days past his peak of freshness ( hint: load the pungent prince off on your least favorite relative and follow you sister's lead)
If you are truly worried about your sense of smell try waiting a week then try cleaning your cat's litterbox and stay close by.It won't stay clean for long and then you can try breathing again..
(why IS it a litter-box? That sure doesn't look or smell like any litter being tossed from any cars I've seen, ..)

Can you please tell how to find that hidden thread and then signal me when the GongMaster in charge of deciding appropriate
lvs. inappropriate times when laughter is allowed is headed in the direction of that great joke thread or anywhere near me, as my mind doesn't always co-operate with me when it pertains to social mores and it has earned me a dirty look once or maybe twice, before.

And as for boring, well, i couldn't possibly reply to that, as since I was in that accident 5 1/2 yrs ago, I don't have a clue as to what boredom is anymore. While there are probably a great many people who find me ( and this post for example) to be boring, but I;ve enjoyed every letter i've mis-typed here - while simply trying to put your mind at ease.( no- ease and sleep are not the same!)

Now to give my finger a rest from typing and and my brain a break from trying to find an eraser that works on my monitor/pc screen, i think i'll end this right no

Little did I know that there was such a thing as a second page, lol. Your post was great, very humorous, lol. Thanks guys ~ (unless there is a PC rule here, in which case, i'll rephrase that to gal & guy)

Obviously, I didn't know about the second page either, ergo, the double post...( and the total inability to edit your own post, sometimes can be quite a problem for me at times ) so, i gotcha there Jeremy!

Glad that I didn't bore either of you to the point of banning me from further posting!

Honestly, I never have given much thought to a screenplay. I do enjoy writing and learned quite a bit about different forms, from a creative writing teacher that I had in 8th grade. I have used writing as a emotional release for most of my life, but in most cases, they were for my eyes only. I have quite a few poems that I've wrote, but have only been brave enough to share a couple of them with just a few friends. Although, it can be a bit difficult to glean from my on-line posting, due to the dyslexic finger issue that i have, i've always been drawn more towards the editing side of writing.

As to being witty, all i can really say, is that the way my mind works, sometimes i'm caught completely off guard as to the way it sometimes processes things.

Well, i've gotta cut this short, LOL, as i've got a little one here, right now , and she's over tired and is being quite insistent that her 'gimmy' has to lay down with her so...
