Are there some days when you are so doggone brilliant you wonder why everyone around you hasn’t noticed???

That was me yesterday.

I saw a segment on TV about aroma therapy and how it can help you sleep better by spritzing the proper aroma on your pillow at night. I had been wanting to go to Bath & Body Works to take advantage of their after-holiday sales so I made special effort last night to go to the mall to do my shopping. I bought more scented stuff that I can possibly wear in a year, BUT I spent most of my time picking out aroma therapy products. I settled on lavender for relaxation to help me sleep and an orange blend for energy for daytime.

When I got home I realized I had purchased only one bottle of the lavender lotion and no spray for my pillow to help me sleep better. I figured I could go in today and get another bottle. I would just make do with the lotion last night.

So bedtime rolled around and I got out the lotion and put some on my forehead and arms and around my neck. Smelled good and I could see how it might be relaxing enough to help.

And then reality hit me: I sleep with a CPAP machine at night, with little “pillows” plugging my nostrils and air pumped in by the machine. I probably couldn’t smell a skunk in the next room while wearing my headgear!!

I’m afraid if I tell my kids about this, they’ll institutionalize me!

Thanks for the laugh, Pat!

It is SO good to know I am not the only one who does "brilliant" things...I feel SO much better now!

Err.. okay, Pat, I won't call you a genius. But I will say that you are hilarious and gave me my second dose of hearty laughter today (Smoke was first talking about her scary mirrors). I think your kids would be proud of you - the way you can not take life so seriously and be able to laugh at yourself - I think that it great! You have inspired me to find a way to laugh at myself everyday - really, it won't be that challenging!

Have a great day, and thanks so much for sharing that with the rest of us!

Is it possible to put a little in the nosepiece of the CPAP? I would ask the company that you rent it from first because it might degrade the rubber, but it's a thought.

If not, send it all to me.....I'd love to try it!

I think you are brilliant for having the ability to see the humour in situations!

1st, in my own brilliance, I was trying to figure out why you sleep with CRAP up your nose....took 3 looks to figure that one out.

2nd, serious question. Do the essences only help when inhaled? Would it not help at least some by getting into your system through the skin?

Pat, I'm not sure if we're talking about the same type of machine but mine has a water reservoir which I used to put a drop of eucalyptus oil in to keep from getting dry mouth. You'd have to check if lavender can be taken internally, I think I used it too, but I'm not to be trusted. Blind leading the blind & all that jazz. Funny story & I'd tell a few of mine, if only I could remember them

Hi Pat
When I was young and had days like that, it was ALWAYS someone else's fault....
They must have distracted or overloaded me - or didn't help me when I needed help
Now that I'm older....and have days when the brain doesn't connect with the body
it is STILL someone else's fault....THEY forgot to plug me in and my batteries faded!!!!

you know, Rowlanda, I like that excuse - my batteries faded because someone forgot to plug me in. I'll have to remember that.

As to putting something in the humidifer tank, I was told not to use anything because of the possibility of inhaling it into your lungs and developing pneumonia. The one product they've OK'd is Ayr, which is a gel, that can be used in the nostrils.

I think you are correct, that putting the lotion or lavender oil on the "pillows" themselves would damage them and shorten their life span.

I'll just rub the lavender lotion on my arms and neck about 20 minutes before bedtime, so I still get some benefit from it.
