I'm not doing any more word puzzles, at least for now. They give me nothing but grief any more, and they have simply ceased to be any fun. I used to enjoy them, but now they've just become a headache and a frustration. Maybe I'll feel different after some time away, but for the present, the joy they used to give me is gone.

You cannot stop. You are one of my yardsticks. Stand up from the computer, take a walk around the block, and do the next WP.

I'm going to assume Tallactor began this thread after taking
the bad New Year resolution WP. If my assumption is wrong,
I'm sorry, but that puzzle was crap. I know someone started
a thread praising this puzzle, so I will seek it out and
complain there.

I just checked the WP leader board and Tallactor has
not yet taken tonight's WP. My assumption was
wrong. I apologize. I too hope Lane reconsiders his

I really enjoyed both of today's puzzles, I like having to figure these kind out instead of just googling to get a top score.

No more am I gonna build any walls in China. My first the Great wall was fairly well received. Then after that my walls were never good enough. The second was ok and the third. Apparently the fourth could not be seen from space and that was a criticism. So no more am I going to build walls.

Seems to me that listening to my friends vent is part of being their friend. Sometimes I just listen, doesn't mean I have to agree or disagree, I just listen. I've seen many rants and ravings in Salty Dog and elsewhere, some about politics, some about rude comments and some about Snooker balls. Maybe just having a place to vent to your friends or just vent in general is a healthy option. Vent on Tallactor, you are my friend and I will listen.

I did the first January puzzle and quit for the very same reasons.

I tried the New Year's resolution puzzle and bailed after the first one, which is when I wrote my e-mail. And I am fine with puzzles that can't be Googled, just not with puzzles that are as badly and awkwardly written as many of the most recent ones. Generally speaking, by the way, the puzzles by the Platinum members tend to be the best-written and most satisfying ones. Anyway, I just need some time away from WPs, and I'm sure I'll eventually come back to them.

Lane, You hit the nail on the head. I could say some more smart ass comments but why upset anyone. I was getting PM's everyday with kind notes about my quizzes and ker-blunks, then problems seemed to occur with the system. I was told that all my stuff in the ker-blunk thing would have to be re-written, I haven't done any since the spring. I feel bad because I liked doing them and I bought several good books for references. I still get pm's from new people who want more, maybe when Archer Avenue straightens out (that's a Chicago joke).

PMB enough with the "inside" Chicago jokes/references. I am still trying to figure out what you saw coming down Michigan Avenue on some date I cannot now remember that influence you somehow on something Linda Lol

The quality of work everyone is capable of doing right now - in the work and play area,
- seem to be affected by tiredness, discouragement, and maybe imbibing????

Everywhere I've been lately, people are sick and tired....the most unbelievable errors
are being made....just as an example - I buy home baked bread at a local store....
Incredibly, since the New Year, the loaves have been blackened - squashed into an
unrecognizeable flat shape - OR placed too loosely inside a badly-fitting plastic bag.
Most unappetizing....and yet still offered for sale

When we on Sploofus feel that things are not to our liking, we can give each other
(and ourselves) a little space....and we can realize that everyone is having trouble
coping with all the disturbances in the macro well as our own micro worlds.

I stopped doing them months ago.

Too many are random paragraphs or obscure double entendres.

The winner should have less than 10 moves, IMO.

I will say that I go on a couple of other trivia sites, (now I feel like I am cheating on Sploofus) but they have no forum to complain about anything. At least here we can post our thoughts.

I did that with broken bones. I broke one, once. It was a highly overrated experience. I swore to never do it again.

Lane - you said "Generally speaking, by the way, the puzzles by the Platinum members tend to be the best-written and most satisfying ones."

I would pretty much guess that the WPs written by editors are STILL written by Platinum members. We just don't have their names.

Just goes to show that the most intelligent platinums are not editors. It is obvious that bad grammar is used on occasion just to confuse, and that is, in my opinion, improper. I don't even have a high school education and I can see these "liberties" with the language. My time will be better spent with a cold six-pack rather than a hot WP. Makes me feel better anyway,

You mean that he would rather spend his time with a cold six-pack rather than our hot WP (well, if I would ever write another WP!)??? The nerve of some people.

What do you suggest we do about it?

Jank0614  (Level: 67.1 - Posts: 4593)
Wed, 7th Jan '09 10:52 PM

No - I was referring to his comment about editors not being the brilliantest of the platinum writers. As an editor and in fact, being PRESIDENT of the editors (in a Jon Lovitz/SNL/president of the pathological liars club sort of way), I'm just so insulted by that crack. I think I'm just going to have to resign my post and retreat in shame!

Gosh, Jan, that was so subtle (!!) Donden's insult just flew right over my head. (I never thought I'd use subtle and Donden in the same sentence!)

Well, since you are president of the editors, I suggest you determine appropriate punishment for him. Might I suggest a week as a guest editor and let HIM handle all the problems and complaints, which I'm sure there are many.

It can't be that much different on this site from my having been a news editor at a newspaper. I often told my co-workers that the main difference between my job and theirs was that I got to take the blame when something wasn't correct!!

Pat, I think your suggestion is brilliant (so i guess that means Don thinks you're NOT an editor )

I don't know if this commercial showed where you live during the holidays, but here in north Texas, there was an Alltel cellular commercial with the clay-type characters of the Alltel guy and the other 3. The other 3 were bad dudes, so they were punished by having to answer letters to Santa. Just when they thought they were finished and free, a whole new bag of mail was dumped on them.

So - yes, I think Don having to edit and handle those 300 quizzes, Ks and TSs backlogged in the queue would be a pretty good learning experience for him. As long as he's chained to the computer desk....

....and we get pictures.
