FYCYCLIST (NANCY) (PROBABLY MISSPELLED)

I noticed because of Equtriv'sd post to the old thread concerning opting out of categories that most who replied are still here but Nancy who still has a profile doesn't post any more-once did frequently. Believe she is a friend of yours, Maurlin, so perhaps you know if she is okay. Remember her commenting once when an invitation was put out for "all" to participate in Shout that she would pass as had not found the sort of club there very friendly. She was good at the WR/Wm and do want to mention that some like Jeremy reached out to her. I have received a few pms from people in my search for the MIAs-not the ones I was asking about-saying they would never again post in "Salty Dog" because they had said some things against the "elite" here and had been" ruded out". I can';t type nor spell worth a damn and once was sensitive like that-no more though. Just thought this might be of interest... maybe not.. Linda

I think it's too bad when people takea bad experience from one or two people and then label the whole forum based on those experiences.

It took me a long time after I joined to begin posting to Salty Dog. I had never been in a chat room, so wasn't sure what to do. In the beginning, I posted some things that one member in particular took offense to and answered my posts in a very nasty tone. So far as I know I had never done anything to offend him and had never posted anything against him.

However, I was determined that the one experience with this member was NOT going to run me off because I was pretty sure he wasn't the majority. So I stuck it out, took a few more verbal punches from him, but I guess when he found out I wasn't going to be offended or run and hide, he left me alone.

There are what -- 200-300 people who post on Salty Dog and the various groups and sub groups? Not posting at all is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Besides, I have found that many people just do not express themselves well by e-mail and posts in chats. You can not see the expression on the writer's face or the tone of their voice. They might be teasing you and you take it personally, because you can't see the twinkle in their eye as they write their post.

That's OK, posting in Salty Dog is not for everyone. They can do the things they enjoy doing and let it go at that. Don't quite understand why they felt the need to write and tell you why they aren't posting on Salty Dog. They are obviously reading Salty Dog or they wouldn't have known to contact you!

If they contact you again, Linda, will you ask them if I am among the "elite" on the site? I've never been elite anything so if I am, I would like to know!

Hi! Nothing to say. Just posting to avoid being listed among the missing. I don't want to erroneously turn up on a milk carton or in the newspaper...to the joy of some, and the despair of 1 or 2.

So exactly who is in this "elite" group of which you speak so often? They must not be all that elite after all, as nobody springs to mind. If they control this chat room, they sure do it in a quiet way. Some post quite frequently to the Salty Dog lately, but I can't see where anybody has any "control" here.

Don't know if "elite" is quite the proper word they they or I am looking for. Believe it references folks who give of the "better than you" attitude and basically their posts are pretty much limited to what is wrong with what someone did or wrote-saying no more- Linda

I got it! I got it! I got it! "elite" is not elite, like people exercising the major share of authority or influence within a larger group It is elite, like email, ecard, enews...electronic lite (not electric light) elite beer, elite rock...not quite...Semi-lite...Quasi-lite. The margarine of lite. The Classic Coke of lite. A zillion calories, not lite enough.

Want to say there is a rather universal kindness on the site if you are ill, having trouble, or have had a loss of a friend, relative, or pet. It gets My recent bouts with medical tests and the death of my dog brought messages of good wishes both public and private from folks who I have every reason to believe don't like me much-not even a little bit LoL Linda

Linda - Flcyclist (Nancy) is still active on Sploofus and is currently # 11 on the "Top Scoring Quiz Authors for January" list. You must not have been taking Trivia Quizzes lately. I'll let her know of your concern.

Thank you. Sometimes I forget to check the most recent quizzes-will make a point of doing that. They disappear in no time now it seems-Linda

I'm not missing either, I don't think. Sure would like to be elite at something, though.

I've never been a "shout" person cause I just don't have time to sit around at the computer. Apparently a lot of folks sploof from work, from what I understand. When I was teaching, I sure wouldn't have been able to do that, and now that I am retired and have about 6 different jobs I still don't have time to do that. Have pretty much stopped writing quizzes cause I just don't have time. My daughter keeps telling me that I've "failed retirement". But, dang, if I could just be "elite", that would count for something!

Linda - and others who expressed concern - I am still active on Sploofus, but you're right, I don't post very often anymore. I liked the add a number, add the next letter, etc. chains, but the rest doesn't seem to grab my interest. Plus the MAIN reason I've stopped posting is that I've gotten addicted to playing Scrabble online and spend most of my time there instead of on the Island. (www.isc.ro for those who are interested). In fact, I played with a Sploofuser (Scrabq) recently - but she's MUCH better than I am. Thanks, Linda (maurlin) for notifying me about this thread and again, thanks, Linda, for your concern!
