I am embarrassed to admit this but I have two spoiled dogs. Over the past 3-4 years with having to look after a sick family member I got lazy and fed my dogs mostly treats. They were never too interested in DOG food so they used to eat people food. lately they wont eat that. if my schnauzer goes for anythiing on the floor my shipooo will follow, but if he doesnt neither one of them eat. The Shipoo likes mikbone biscuits and that is about all. I have tried to ignore them and leave just dog food on the floor but I guess I am too soft hearted and think they are hungry. Is there any other eway to get them on just dog food.

I can relate, I've been there and done that. I had dogs (and cats) who would turn their noses up at pet food and, knowing I'd think they were starving, feel guilty, and give in to the treats and people food, actually refuse to eat "food". After several talking-tos from my longtime vet and friend I wised up (if I'm not careful I revert to the old days after one pleading look). This is what my vet told me: The pets will eat eventually, don't worry; They're not starving and probably (as was the case of my animals) could stand to lose a few pounds; The treats and especially the people food are not healthy for them (after my old dog Daisy lost a few pounds and began to eat right she felt much better and the arthritis in her hips lessened - she's now able to jump on the bed once again). Our dogs consider us to be the alpha-person in their lives. They really do want us to make the decisions and to follow our lead - when we aren't alpha it's confusing and disruptive to them. You'll probably hear whining, maybe barking, and most certainly see big sad, pleading eyes. Hang in there. Remember, you're doing this for them cuz ya love 'em. PS: The cats still give me dirty looks when they realize I'm not opening the Starkist Tuna for them!

Thanks for you information. I guess I will just have to wear sunglasses and ear plugs.
