Here's part of a PM I received from Rowlanda; she asked that I pass the word along to Sploofus friends:

"Think I will be going into Hospital on Wednesday, so this afternoon I am planning to take dogs and cats to a friend of mine who has a menagerie!

For the next couple of days I will be rushing to make sure everything is ready for my absence for the next month. For now I have been taking chemo pills and they seem to be working pretty well so hopefully all will be well soon."

Since she will not be on the Internet, I asked Rowlanda to check with the hospital and find out how we can snail mail her or perhaps the name and mailing address of someone who will deliver snail mail to her. I'll pass the word along when I receive it, or maybe Rowlanda will post it herself today or tomorrow.

Thanks so much for the update! Ask Rowlanda if we can send her some puzzle books and what she might like in that way. I'm glad she is not dragging her feet on the chemo as that looks to be very successful in treating bone cancers - or at least sending them into remission. Prayers and good thoughts all going Rowlanda's way!

I am glad she is going to get the chemo. I was certainly hoping no one would try to talk her out of it, or offer up some new age, cosmic pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo. And I knew no doctor of value would ever intervene via a chatboard. However, I was sure her doctors knew and know the best course with something like this. Tell her to keep a positive attitude. That is the one documented wildcard that seems to improve recovery chances for all types of illnesses.

Hi to all the good kind folks at Sploofus.
I was admitted into Hospital yesterday
but they have some more tests to do
and treatment will not start until tomorrow!!!!

Got myself all geared up for all the "nasties" on
Wednesday, and so far it's been like a stay
in a decent hotel !!!! Customer service is
excellent here and I am recommending it to
all who are interested!!!!

First thing I did was find a computer, so hopefully
will feel well enough to participate on Sploofus,
soon and often....

Rowlanda, best of luck. Our thoughts are with you.

Hospital food, Pepper? They can't even make Jello correctly.

Hey Row... good luck. And remember - I'm close by if you need me.

Collioure - last time I was in hospital (almost 16 years ago with the birth of my last daughter), I quite enjoyed the scrambled eggs - and ONLY the scrambled eggs. lol

Please let us know if there is an adress where we could send cards or puzzle books to help Rowlanda pass the time and know that there are so many who care for her!

I just sent her an e-mail a few minutes ago asking her if we could put in an address for the hospital. I'll let you know when she responds. Considering the treatment she is receiving I don't know if there are limits on what can go in to her room or not. But the minute I hear from her I'll post it one way or another - or if any one else hears from her first, please post.

I know your prayers and encouragement will be most welcome in the meantime.

Thinking of you Row

Hi there,
Thank you for the kind thoughts Pat, but I don't think they would allow it.
For the last couple of days they have started off killing my immune system.
and by next week hopefully all the "bad" blood cells wiil be removed and I'm
supposed to have no immune system at all....
That's why I have to stay her for several weeks after, until the composition of
my blood is back to normal
I am in one of those rooms they use for people who need to be infection free,
Gloves and Gowns kind of thing.
Anyway, it's so far so let's hope it stays that way.

I had wondered if they would let you have mail, simply because of your weakened immune system.

We'll just keep sending healing thoughts your way. Whenever you can post a line every so often to let us know how you're doing, that will be great. If you can't, we'll understand.

Rowlanda made a brief visit to the SPLOOFANATIC'S PUZZLE POTPOURRI thread Saturday, so she logging on and making brief posts somewhere on the site. Her access to a computer is probably limited so that's all the time she has - and maybe energy is lagging to do any more than that, too.

But I'm fairly sure she's checking on this thread and seeing all your good wishes.

You're right Pat,
I have to use the computer
when it's available
when I'm awake
when I'm not having treatment
When the doctor/Social Worker/dietician/librarian et al, are not here
I'm in three research studies so there's research workers too....
Hospital life is way too hectic!!!!
Need to go home for a rest....
Thanks a lot all of you who wrote in.

I had a brief e-mail from Rowlanda last night (Sunday). She's going through a really dfficult time right now. Any of you familiar with the procedure probably know better than the rest of us what she is having to endure.

Please keep her in your prayers and loving thoughts as she needs them right now. Hopefully she is reaching the point where things will turn around and she'll start feeling a little better. Someone is to arrive Sunday - I don't remember the name but thought maybe it was her daughter.

She still has her sense of humor: "The only good thing is I've lost twenty pounds."

It's a heckuva way to diet, Row.

Hang in there.
