Is it just me or are the daily trivia questions very hard all of a sudden?! I haven't got one right for days, including today's (although I didn't expect to get today's right, geography is one of my worst subjects anyway) - but it's not just me, the figure given for percentage of the time in which today's question was answered correctly was 4.36%!!

C'mon, sploof-gurus, I'm only level 2, give me a break! The questions aren't supposed to be this hard just yet, or what on earth are you going to ask when I get to level 10, or 20 ...?!

All levels get questions from the same pool. It was different a long time ago, but now we all get our questions from the same database. All of us have hot and cold streaks. I had a streak of 3-7 awhile back then basically reversed it.

Yes, I know, I'm in the middle of the same!

But that wasn't what I was querying - each question tells you afterwards what percentage of people got the question right - and this question was only 4.36%!!! That is, on average, less than 1 person in 20 got it right!

Surely that makes it way too hard for level 2?!!

The QOTD database does not discriminate based on your level. Someday it might, but for now, the level of difficulty is just as random as the daily category.

As the editors add to the database we try to maintain a mix of easy, medium and hard questions, just to keep everyone on their toes!

Yeah the questions seem to run is spurts.....I'll get several that I know and can answer really easily and then all of a sudden I get a string of one that I honestly have no clue what the answer is. Sometimes I get lucky and guess correct. It seems that everytime I get a wager token to use though I get some ridiculously hard question when I use it so I think I am going to hold on to the last one I got for a little while....already at 18.5 and don't want to loose all those points and go back to the beginning of level 18. I know I was stuck on level 13 or 14 for what seemed like forever. It seemed like no matter what I did I just could not get a TQOD right. Just keep trying....eventually you will get some questions you know.

In that case the contest rules need changing! Rule VII says:

"Sploofus will start you out at Level 1. Your Sploofus Trivia Question of the Day will become progressively more difficult as you advance in the game."

That's why I was surprised to get such a difficult question at level 2 ...?

Hi Smeans, now I'm curious - how do you get to level 18.5?! Do you have to answer more questions to go up a level at the higher ones? I thought it was 10 questions per level?

Berlym, if you lose a wager, you go back to the beginning of the level...and of course, you don't make progress within the level if you don't answer correctly. So it's not 10 questions per level, it's 10 right answers (without losing a wager) per level.

As for the TQOTD difficulty, I agree! I've seen a really interesting mix of questions. Sometimes, I'll get a true no-brainer, and other times, I'd have to be a specialist in anthropology or high energy physics or ancient Egyptian history or somesuch to answer correctly. It really would be nice if the difficulties were more progressive.

Funny, I was just about to post a new thread about this today!!I've been stuck on level 20.1 forever!!! I can't even remember when I got a question of the day right and was starting to think maybe the questions got harder when I hit level 20. Nope.
Glad to know it's not just that I'm getting dumber 'cause I was getting pretty afraid!

Level 18.5 refers to the level and how many questions answered correctly in that level. For every 10 questions you answer correctly you gain a level. For example you are level 2.4 that means you have answer 24 questions correctly.....10 to gain each level and then 4 towards level 3.

If you are a gold or platinum member you can use wager tokens that you gain when you advance a level. However if you wager and loose you not only loose all the points you wagered but you also go back to the beginning of the level. Say you were on level 18.8 and wager and miss loose the points and you back to level 18.0 meaning the last 8 questions you answered correctly are wagers are to do them early in a level so if you miss it you don't loose too much ground. I didn't realize that until I lost my first wager. Maybe I need to read things more closely....LOL

It's just luck of the draw...I did a showdown earlier.....I was feeling lucky since I had done two TQOTD already and got them both correct. Well I had never heard of the band in the showdown question so I blew that one big time. It's just a chance you take....luck of the draw...sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you aren't.

I agree about the rules - there are several things in the basic FAQ's that are no longer true!

I wonder about the bonus timers? Are they all the same? Meaning, do the points - seconds it takes you to answer correlate on every level? Aaaack, I know exactly what I'm trying to say and cannot figure out how to say it!

As I recall it, when the scoring changed such that everyone got 1,000 points for a correct answer regardless of level, Sploofus also said that the time bonus WOULD be a bit higher at higher levels. So the additional points for answering quickly increase as the level goes up.

I do think it'd be better to have difficulty-rated questions and avoid serving the really hard ones to the lower levels (and avoid serving the really easy ones to the higher levels, of course!).
