And, of course, I lost I am so upset with myself, since it was a question where I should have known the answer, and was wavering between the right answer and the one I eventually chose. Now I feel that I have to be on here 24/7 till I make up the points. I'm definitely not a gambler and should have known better. I can't get over how upset I feel. Someone send me some chocolate, quick! Alice

Alice, you're at level 8. If this is your first wager, you still have 6 or 7 wager tokens. Wait till you get a subject you feel confident about and try again. Remember, it's only points; it didn't cost you a dime and you got a great reminder about going with your first response. Just remember that placing your wager early in a level is wiser because if you get it wrong, you lose your level points too and have to start at the beginning of the level. It gets easier to do after the first few times, honest!

I know how it feels! Diane (Linenlady) always says, "It's only points!" yet somehow it makes me feel simply awful. I lost a wager over the weekend and I haven't recovered yet.

Chocolate might help!

I try to set myself a goal...when I first hit a million points I didn't want anything to take me back down! So I wouldn't wager or do a showdown until I could safely stay above the 1M mark! Now that I'm above 5 mil I've made my goal not to go under 5M. So if I lose 600,000 it hurts, but it doesn;t devastate me because I know I'm still over 5...see?

When I made it into the Top 100 all time points, I was ecstatic, and then lost that place in a big hurry, just due to other people wagering and showdown-ing theri way over my head! hmmmph. So I wager and stage showdowns more often now to try to get back up there!

And here's some chocolate to make you feel better!

Save those tokens for your fave categories like Diane says. I use mine everytime I get one and sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.

Now showdown tokens are a totally different story - I'm going for the all time record on who can collect the most of those LOL.

I just don't understand the idea of NOT using your showdown tokens...they are much easier and less stressful to use! You do it and forget about it...and then later on you get a PM that says you won or you didn''s a little surprise

Ummm, well, I don't like wagering against the unknown - at least when I use a wager token, I'm wagering against MY skills vs a showdown token where I'm wagering against my skills AND the knowledge of another person.

Surely I am not the only one with these feelings?

I thank you all for all your pats. And the chocolate - though I admit I haven't had time to check that out yet. I actually wagered very little - only 10,000 because I certainly wanted to stay above 1 million pts. And it was a good category for me - science - and I should have known the answer.

I've never initiated a showdown either - but am content to sporadically win points from those who are out to get me.

But most importantly, I now feel well hugged. Feels like a support group! Alice

Wow, Bev - That's a lot to handle at once. Go get 'em!! You can get back the 50,000 easy with the showdowns Alice

Alice--I felt really bad the first time I lost points too. Even if you feel silly and tell yourself it's not as if you lost money or something, it still stings thinking of the time & effort it took to get those points.
You'll feel SO fantastic when you win! (Saline was teasing me not 10 minutes ago because when I found out I'd won a wager against someone who beat me last week, and I jumped up and did a little dance =)

Trust me - The rush you get from winning will make it worth the risk of losing points. I did what Suzer does at first - making sure if I lost I wouldn't drop below a certain rank or point level, but now I bet the farm every time.

Good luck!!

I just looked at my points, and realized I had accidentally wagered half a million not 50,000....and so my loss is a LOT greater than I realized....

I have never used a wager token either.....(and I have 14 of them). Showdowns are less scary, there is always the chance that the other person gets it wrong too (or that they don't respond).
