Mayor Bloomberg just held a press conference as seems NYC folks have been noticing a periodic "smell" Even that droll man brought laughter from the Press when he said the "stink" was coming from NJ. There is a food processing plant which anytime they stir some kind of additive-about once a month-it causes a big "stink". So NJ knock it off immediately as we don't want NYC to stink LoL Linda

I lived for years in Madison WIsconsin, home of a huge Oscar Mayer plant. Locals can tell you with a whiff if it is a bologna day or a hot dog day - no kidding!

I can tell which way the wind blows here by whether it smells like salt water, coffee beans roasting, rotten cabbage or barley mash. It's a toss-up which of the last two smells worse. One is Union Carbide and the other is Anheuser-Busch.

In the town that I work in, there is a compost recycling facility that is causing such a "stink" (relatively and figuratively) that we are having major problems selling land around it. All the nearby businesses are complaining.

Visit Hershey PA. Great cocoa smells year round.

My hometown is located about 20 miles, either side of 2 pulp mills, Crofton & Harmac. When the wind was blowing you sometimes got a horrible sulphur smell (almost eliminated now, thanks to environmental controls). The saying went "Is that you Mac or Harmac, do you do that often or is it Crofton"? If us kids complained we were told is was the smell of money, which ironically smells just like a big fart

Folks... make sure you refer to NORTH Jersey when telling Joisey jokes. Down here in the south we have no smells....well, other than that one pig farm.......
