Here for a week; with my wife.
The idea is to be a tourist not play sploofus (shock horror)
What must we do -- we've got the 'obvious' things on our list but any ideas welcome.

That includes restaurants, and travel in the vicinity.

Thanks all.

No bridge either? Ya mean you're footing the bill yourself?

holiday this week; next week work on the gold coast.

Anyone interested in seeing what I do (and that's not likely!) can check out the NEC bridge bulletins from Yokoham and next week the Yeh brothers bulletins from the NOT in Brisbane.

Sploofers are inquisitive folks - I'll bet lots of us are interested - can you give us a specific site? Thanks Barry (and have a really great time)

OK. Now I got it.

You are Barry Rigal, a world class player, whose name I think I saw often when I read the Master Solver's Club in the Bridge World.

Are you running these tournaments?

Hi Barry, You should do the bridge climb, I haven't yet but it's meant to be fantastic! You really should go to the Blue Mountains. There you'll see The Three Sisters. If you're feeling energetic walk down the Giant Staircase. When you get to the bottom walk through the valley to the scenic railway which will take you back up the top. And one thing I love to do is go to Bondi Beach - not necessarily to swim- there are sharks about at the moment but don't worry, they have an alarm to warn you if they see any. But it's better to go for a walk to Bronte. (That's where I grew up.) Just head south, follow the path and you can't get lost. It's a built up area but you'll walk along the cliff tops, past Mackenzie's Bay and Tamarama to Bronte. It takes about an hour each way if you go slow. If you're in the city you might like to take a ferry from Circular Quay to Watson's Bay. Doyle's Restaurant is there if you want to spend a lot of money or you can get great fish and chips at the wharf. The pub is right there as well if you want a cold beer. My son is a chef and says you should try either Tetsuyas restaurant or Rockpool, but that's if you're a millionaire. For live music in the city try The Basement. You can just listen and drink or eat listen and drink. I noticed Tim Finn is playing there tonight but actually it's 12.03 so it's tomorrow and I think you've missed him.

Have fun, Jo

Actually no, you haven't. My mistake. He's playing there tonight (Thursday).

Thanks for the site - I don't know much about bridge but it was fun cruising around and seeing what a big time bridge tournament is all about. Unfortunately I am now left to ponder how does Barry get to do a job that is fun and takes him to all kinds of interesting places around the world while I get to spend this afternoon at the STD clinic!

I don't know much about bridge either. other than the people who know how to play bridge really enjoy it.

May I say, Barry, I am very impressed. How many people can do what they love, travel to fascinating places, meet other interesting people and call it a career? Have you written a book about your travels? Are you a photographer, too? What beautiful sights you must see in your travels.

I was trying to think of something I could say that would cheer you up, Slicko, but with what you get to do this afternoon, I don't think there's a thing I could say that would cheer you (or anyone else). While it is a humanitarian effort, it must be discouraging.

I know, Slicko! Hire Barry to tutor you in bridge so you can join him on his adventures!
