Over the past couple of weeks, I have noticed a significant slowing of Sploofus pages loading. There are times, when taking a Trivia Quiz, for example, when the wait between questions may be 30-60 seconds.

Now...before somebody tells me it's probably my Internet connection that's messed up, I will note that it's ONLY Sploofus where these delays occur.

Anybody else noticing this?

Is it time for a Sploofus Server Boot?

The pages do seem to be loading a lot slower than they did at the beginning of 2.0, especially in the middle of the night for me

Quizzes are often painful - especially for the tournaments - several of my quizzes ended up taking 3 or 4 times as long as they should because of waiting and waiting between questions. It happens for me at work and at home so I think it's the site - not your internet connection.

It's definitely the Sploofus site. And it's definitely a pain. It's not only frustrating to sit around and wait for a quiz to load, but, like Slicko, it's affecting my scores. I've dealt with the occasional freezes between questions on quizes since I joined the site, but it's nuts in the last few weeks. (At least there is Kerblunk, where you don't have to submit between questions.) I'm still addicted to the Tournaments, so I'll play those quizes--but I pretty much avoid any other quizes these days.

This is on top of a huge number of bugs on the site that have never been addressed.

I've tried not to whine too much about his site. Heck, if it's too frustrating, the best (only) solution is to just quit using the site. It's obvious that the owner of this site is incapable of addressing the concerns of the users, but it's also obvious that we're all so addicted to these various trivia games that we're willing to put up with the poor quality.

That said, I'm an IT manager, responsible for a fairly major information system, and if I ignored even 1/10 of the bugs that remain in this system, or I so consistently ignored customer input, I would be fired immediately.

I posted a message titled "Freezing" just last night. None of the same people that replied here, replied to it. hmmm.

There was an interesting reply by chickfbref1 that you should read. Unfortunately, it was AFTER I payed for Gold Membership, thinking it could help towards a possible server upgrade. Guess I was wrong.

Anyway, go read it, it may enlighten you.

I'm seeing the same thing myself. Quizzes load slowly and so does Salty Dog, WM's and WR's at times. It's not constant but it's sure annoying.

Acckkk! I've been defraging and otherwise harassing my computer every night, thinking it was us.
So the good news is it's NOT us, it's the site. Which is the bad news.

I fell asleep taking a quiz this morning. It was a very neat baseball quiz that won a EA. I apologize to the author for not being able to complete it and rate it. Regardless Sploofus is still an awesome site and Justin rocks as well.

Until Justin can tweak, tinker and tune up Sploofus, I thought I'd let you know what I do when I hit a lag. I empty my browser cache right in the middle of taking quizzes. It's a little scary, because occasionally I worry that I might get booted from the quiz, but that hasn't happened. So far, doing this has worked every time to break the lag, and then I move on to the next questions. I don't know if that will help anyone else, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Meanwhile, I have confidence that Justin is doing his best to sort out these problems, and we'll all be happier campers soon.

Sploofus is definitely slower than when I first wandered here. It is maddening. Quizzes nearly always hang up at some point. Today, the timer kept going during the freeze. My golden membership will be history when it expires.

Dutchman...a Bug report for your TQOTD will do nothing. It just goes to Justin, who doesn't appear to be involved at this point. Click on Help at the bottom of the Sploofus screen and an editor will actually respond to your problem.

Jank0614  (Level: 67.1 - Posts: 4593)
Sat, 21st Feb '09 2:09 PM

Dutch - you won't ever get a response from a bug report.

Instead, click on "help" and submit a "support ticket" and you will always get a response - eventually.

(And editors/Justin - I wish so much instead of "help" and a "green bug" at the top of the screen, that you would just have "Support Ticket" at the top, and that could link to a subcategory "report a bug." People have been confused about that from the beginning. And with new people joining all the time, there are increasing numbers of people who get frustrated all the time by both being at the top.)

Jank, that is the whole problem. The suggestion you made involves programing-don't pretend to know how that works-but for whatever his reasons Justin has not given editors or anyone involved the ability to program-thus things remain broken- Linda

Evidently, Justin is the only one that CAN fix things and he is MIA. The editors are doing all they can and I sincerely appreciate them. Justin on the other hand needs to find someone to run this or sell it because he no longer passionate about it and frankly, that sucks.

I have been experiencing the same lag times and just not registering during the middle of a quiz and it is very frustrating. I am sorry to hear that the one person who can fix things does not seem interested in doing so. I would hat to leave this site just when I am getting to know some really interesting people. I hope something is going to be done for all of us trivia addicts because this really is a great site and it would be a shame for it to continue on as it is now. Of course as new people join it can only get worse unless Justin does something about it. Very frustrating.

Thanks for that, Justin. Obviously neither you nor Maurlin paid attention to the "Some Editorial Comments' thread. Many folks that I had inquired about just to let them know they had been missed felt the need to check in to say their account had not been terminated.-last time I will inquire about anyone.-because of that thread started by Sploofusionist. After a rather heated exchange between Sploofusionist and myself because said editor had said certain people were being monitored closely because of word puzzle scores. Sploofusionist sent me a pm saying she/he was responsible for talking the other editors into letting my 3 selves BE the Tournament-definite insinuation that would not happen. I made that fact public and another editor said I would get to participate after all. Sploofusionist felt the need to have the last word and said they had narrowed the look at "CHEATERS" down to 3 specific cases. Bill's computer had been on the blink and he appeared a few days later and said he had received a message of caution about cheating. SO.. you decide was the editor's particular interest in remembering the subject after of Bill's last post coincidental? What was the point of the editors post to BILL? We all know the editors have dual accounts and sometimes if you are quick you can catch them posting as one when they meant to as the other. I am beyond the point of caring but please do not tell me that someone made a sarcastic post for any other reason than to hint at cheating or for the sake of sarcasm alone. Until you make it a rule that 1 account to one computer or household it is subjective and if you want paid memberships to increase most likely not wise. The editors have had a lot of responsibility and I appreciate them for that as I do you, Justin, for starting this whole thing. Said pretty much all I wanted to say for a bit anyway and those who have been here a bit know what I mean whether they choose to acknowledge it or not. Linda

Linda, I love you and respect you for all of those years in Detroit, but MY GAWD, you have a vivid imagination, and it always seems to run to the negative. Has a cloud without a yucky, brown lining ever passed your way? Your version of what was said in that thread is JUST YOUR OPINION. How in the heck can you purport to KNOW what another person is trying to say. All I see is conjecture. It is like listening to Conservative talk show host interpreting everything said PLEASE!!!!!!!! Git over it and let it go.

Kimoira  (Level: 212.7 - Posts: 1195)
Sun, 22nd Feb '09 6:10 PM

Linda's point about multiple accounts from one computer is a good one though. There are several people in one household who have different Sploofus accounts and who knows who is really signing on under what name? My daughter has an account as do I, but if I signed in under her name either by accident or purposely is that against the rules ? She is no longer a paying member but when she was, I paid for it so who gets to log in under which name? I've never done that and could not care less who does but theoretically it does pose problems for those who have multiple accounts from one computer. What goes for one person should go for all.

Steve, I like you too but how is it that everything I say goes back to conservative talk show radio? I have never listened to talk radio of any kind and actually no radio at alll for many years-bothers me when I drive. My point was valid whether you choose to see it or not. Sploofusionist's original thread was out of line-chief editor or not. The rules if you can find them clearly state that if someone cheats accounts will be terminated. So if editors are sure someone i cheating-terminate their account. There was absolutely no reason for ANY reply to Bill's post. Why is he so important that any editor recalls what he said in a previous thread somewhere? Like it or not it harkened back to the last witch hunt. As long as family members share a computer any hint of cheating is subjective and that is what happened in this thread- FACT! It is a shame that anyone who takes a break for a bit is thought to be a cheater. Bill does certainly not need me to defend him and Maurlin is free to keep her head implanted deep in the sand if that is her choice too- yes, there have been many happy moments in my life but I call sh-- as I see sh--. Maurlin  (Level: 220.4 - Posts: 2707)

I can see where your head is planted. In this thread there was a gentle reminder, not an accusation. Since the person who posted was referring to something that was said in a different post under his own name, the editor was just letting him know that he was not in under the name in which he originally posted the comment. It is a shame you must see evil hiding under every rock in sight. Please reread Tuzilla's post.

NOW you are interpreting what the editor meant- WOW I know someone as important as Bill whose every post is remembered..Who knows perhaps if I go without therapy I could get so old and childish as to take most of your quizzes which I do and BOMB them all. Must be confusing to be new here and not atune to things also unaware that different rules for different people-in case you are wondering what I reference-category exemption for folks who were here in 1.0 but not given when "new and improved" 2.0 put into place. Probably wouldn't make much difference to anyone new as impossible to achieve the levels of people who have been here before dirt was invented and were thick-skinned enough not to quit time and again. The plus is that the slow-down on quiz taking has been fixed which was obvious to all even new people-Linda
