HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEORGE, I DIDN'T FORGET

Today is the birthday of one of the United States great presidents George Washington. Being almost noon EST, I have not seen or heard one word about him on Television or radio. This is shameful. Happy birthday George, I didn't forget. PMB

Did anyone happen to see the cartoon, "Mallard Fillmore", this morning? AND I quote:
"Happy Birthday"? School kids know next to nothing about me.....I have to share my federal holiday with Lincoln...and I'm worth less than a stinkin' Euro! I bet King George is somewhere laughing his royal rear end off..........

I don't think George was a great president. Most of the stories we were fed as children (the cherry tree, etc) were simply myths. Except one, he was nearly LITERALLY the father of our nation with all the children he had out of wedlock. Wonder why he was never impeached for his sexual behavior?

I would like to see the documentation on that. I can't find any. I did come up with this though.

I am honestly NOT trying to be confrontational......I have just never heard of an authentic source that collaborates that.

I would say he was not impeached for it because people of his time didn't believe it.

But even were it true, the list of great acts of courage and leadership of this great man still make him a great president.

Consuelo, a large share of his greatness as president came from the fact that he was the first one, and as a national hero, he was basically handed a blank check to make the presidency whatever he wanted. It got to the point where some people were encouraging him to be king. The fact that he resisted, stepped down after two terms, and enforced the balance and separation of powers that we have enjoyed since is one of his greatest legacies.

After researching my book of presidents, George had no kids and two were adopted from Martha's first marriage. Martha was a widow and re-married George. No indignant bastards there.

Thank you, Ken

And let's not forget that revolutionary leaders often don't live very long.

LOL...sorry. I just couldn't resist. Just Sploofin you!

But Washington DID grow marjuana! And took laudanum frequently for pain...

History is interpretive and just that: a story. Factually, I am not impressed with George as a president. We actually know few FACTS about his personal life, he was very private. The myths about the cherry tree, throwing the silver dollar, etc. all bother me.

My apologies for being a brat...

All history should be questioned.

I believe it was called hemp and it was used for stuff like rope and shipping lines. My ship had them when I reported aboard but switched to nylon later.

I had a hemp shirt when I was a kid - until I sat too close to the fire and Puff the Magic Dragon had to rescue me.

(I'd mention that an axe wielding George Washington was on his back, shouting something about "infernal stool-pigeon cherries", but I wouldn't want to offend.)

Peace & love to you my flower-tots, and happy birthday to the fellah too.
