REVELATION CHAPTER 6

I don't mean to run past Jeremy's request for another week of Chapter 5 (which has now passed), but I also know if a group is not nourished often, it tends to disappear. Many groups have no input week after week.

So, Jeremy, please feel free to add all you wish to Chapter 5, and as soon as you're ready for Chapter 6, here it is:

This is the 21st Century King James Version:

Revelation 6

1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder, one of the four living beings saying, "Come and see!"

2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him, and he went forth conquering and to conquer.

3 And when He had opened the second seal, I heard the second living being say, "Come and see!"

4 And there went out another horse that was red; and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, that they should kill one another; and there was given unto him a great sword.

5 And when He had opened the third seal, I heard the third living being say, "Come and see!" And I beheld, and lo, a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living beings say, "A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine!"

7 And when He had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living being say, "Come and see!"

8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse, and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over a fourth part of the earth to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

9 And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the Word of God, and for the testimony which they held.

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost Thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?"

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them, and it was said unto them that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants and also their brethren, who were to be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

12 And I beheld when He had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

13 and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs when she is shaken by a mighty wind.

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 and they said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb!

17 For the great Day of His wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?"

I'm so glad you went ahead into Chapter six. Such symbolism! All those horses representing stages of the AntiChrist during the Great Tribulation! At first he comes in supposed peace but then turns into destruction.

I read it and made notes and will get back when I find them, ha, ha.

Oh, I wanted to add just for thought.

The church I was raised in completely believed the King James Version is the only correct English version.

Most King James Version Bibles have on the spine.....7 seals. Because of that, they taught that the book with 7 seals is the Bible.

Also, I tend to think of Revelation Chapter 6 as one of the scariest books in the Bible. And yet the most awful and awesome at the same time.

I'll have more probably Sunday, as 4 days of this week are orchestra and choir contest days at the schools where I am involved. Thanks for adding!

I think it is just so sad that people restricted themselves to the KJV. I think it is now one of the big deterrents to people reading the Bible. If you know nothing about the Bible that ancient English is so intimidating and incomprehensible. I grew up in a church like that but I have been freed. There are so many modern simple versions out there that people can read and actually understand easily. I don't know of any educated person who thinks that the KJV is still the only way to go. I hope I don't offend anyone with this statement but the other versions have been tranlated by scholars who have sweated over the original languages and have had an earnest desire to make God's word available to anyone who wants to read it. To me the KJV is now like the latin Bible used to be. Only an elite few can read it and understand it.

I too hope no one is offended. I love the KJV, but I was freed from that strict belief, also. For my own personal study (not just reading but studying) I like to read KJV first, and then go to the Amplified, and then the other English translations (when I have time).

Jank and Bookworm: Me, too. I love the beauty of the KJV and that's what our church uses, but we do go to other versions for clarification of meanings, etc. In some versions there are phrases that I don't agree with. For example, in the book of Daniel, one version says there is a fourth man in the fiery furnace like a son of God. I prefer the version that says THE son of God. You just have to know what you're reading and then be able to compare.....

I'm glad you all moved on without me, I'm having real trouble balancing my time right now with time commitments to my Church making more inolved participation at this current moment quite difficult. I even had TQOTD's expiring!! That never happens, lol. Hopefully this will work itself out in time.....After catching up on the reading I don't really have alot to say about either of these chapters.

That being said, I love this chapter, as someone who enjoys creative writing this chapter is fertile with ideas....actually reminds me of an old series of movies my Dad had us watch us a kid. I can't for the life of me remember the titles of the movies anymore, the only thing I pretty much remember is that the 666 was a barcode tattoo that the government wanted people to wear. The movies must be fairly old....very entertaining as a kid at any rate. I would love to write a novel about the end times, despite my tendency to not lean towards that interpretation right now. Who knows? Maybe I will.

As you know, I'm generally not a fan of the KJV, but if the passage is something I can actually understand instead of forcing me to struggle through outdated English I enjoy reading it same as anyone else.

I forgot to ask, I've been googling and was unable to come up with the names of these old movies. There was probably five of them.....I know I haven't given you much of a description to go off of, I also remember a great earthquake scene where the main character had her head in a guillotine, and a pastor who was a very scruffy looking fellow who was left behind who went around educating everybody about the end times and raised his own chickens and so forth to avoid getting the mark of the beast.....the goal in the movies was to find a remnant of Christians who had been left behind and were all living together I think. These movies must've been from the early 80's or so....anyone know the name of them?? I'd appreciate it......

No Linda thanks for trying!! I haven't seen those, but I was able to figure it out after days of looking it just came to me. A little dated but pretty good films from what I remember if you ever have a chance to watch them. Here's an entry for one of them with links to the other films: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_of_the_Beast_(film) . I guess there was four movies, the first filmed in 1972 the last in 1983. I even found a clip, which you might not want to watch if you plan to rent these, there's a few spoilers:

Wow, what's even cooler is that you it seems you can watch all four movies on a Christian website: www.higherpraise.com, though the quality is pretty poor. I'm sooo watching them.... I wonder if I'll still like them now that I'm older...

Thanks for posting those, Jeremy. I'll look into them next weekend.

As I read and re-read Chapter 6, I think back to how a few decades ago much of teaching was based on the belief that the sun being blackened and the moon blood red and the world shaking would be caused by nuclear war. But with all the research and study about meteorites and craters, it seems now that thought has shifted to belief that might be more likely. A large meteor would have that kind of power to affect such large numbers of people all over the planet quickly.

God creating the setting far in advance for that occurrence would seem pretty easy to understand, too. Of course, God's timetable is very large, and these events don't have any timetable attached - just an order of events.

I find it very interesting that the rider of horses 1-3 did not have a name. Not until horse 4 was the rider given a name - Death.

I remember thinking on 9/12 that just 2 days beforehand, we had the luxury of griping about so many trivial things, in light of events on 9/11.

Reading this chapter certainly trivializes most everything that bothers or aggravates me on the average day. So much crisis and death is going to hit and the results will be shared by everyone equally. Having a survival kit and bottled water isn't going to mean much in that great and horrible day. The eyes of the world will only have One to look to for their help. Roman 14:11: "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,and every tongue shall confess to God."

I would think during these events, every tongue will be begging for mercy.

One commentator said the rider on the white horse is the AntiChrist because at first he is seen as a leader of world peace. then, during the last 3 1/2 years of the tribulation period, his true character comes out and he becomes the other riders.

The titles are A Thief in the Night, A Distant Thunder and Image of the Beast. I looked them up on Ebay and they are relatively expensive.

And don't forget movie 4, the Prodigal Planet! It's too bad they are expensive, I guess I'll just have to find more current versions of the scenarios.

I don't know much about the current thinking on the topic, all I learned about it I learned as a kid or teenager. Is the scenario where large numbers of believers are taken from the earth before this all happens, is that still the current view? You'll guys are doing a very good job of filling me in as we go along, I appreciate it!

Hey, thought you'd like to know that all 4 are on Netflix, but 3 do not have a date of availability. The only one you can rent right now is "A Distant Thunder." Maybe the others will be available soon.
